I'm glad you're on the mend. I hope you didn't pick up that cold while you were on your skiing vacation! By "colleagues" do you mean Matt Lauer? He has plenty of Purell, doesn't he? Ha, ha.

With respect to the presidential campaign, a co-worker of mine sent me an interesting "candidate calculator" a while back. Of course, that was when the field was a lot more crowded, and - since then - three of the candidates I was interested in have dropped out! Hello Lester,

I just heard your plug that Danica Patrick was the first woman to win a major race. Jutta Kleinschmidt, a German woman, won the Paris to Dakar Rally in 2001.

Danica's win is the first win by a woman in a closed-course race. What she did was big, but it will always have the asterisk beside the win and citing the closed-course factor.

Good Evening Mr.Holt, I am so very glad that you are feeling so much better Mr.Holt. Great to see you on Nightly News this evening! Now on to the broadcast. Even if only for a moment on a report about Iraq I love seeing Richard on the broadcast!! And as a Chief Foreign Correspondent!! YEAH! The report by Mr.Colt concerning the violence in Iraq caused much in part to al-Sadr's army shows that this conflict is far from being resolved. I agree with Richard and that a wedge is being driven. The Green Zone as shown in the report has been attacked quite often recently which does cause great concern for those working within the zone. The army of al-Sadr being 80,000 strong puts much pressure on the US troops to keep security in check. The numbers of injured and killed seems to be always large. I do hope these people get tired of fighting eachother someday because peace needs to come to that region soon. With regards to the mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI it looked positively wonderful. All the joyous welcome he received from those attending the mass at Yankee Stadium was touching to see. I did see the visit the Pope made to Ground Zero and it was extremely touching. Seeing him kneel and pray silently then light a candle was very moving. The families of the victims and survivors being able to meet Pope Benedict XVI and pray with him brings renewed faith to many families. The Pope's visit went very well here in America and I am most happy he was able to have people get to know him better. The trip was spiritual and peaceful for everyone. Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Natalie Morales did a fine job broadcasting last evening. Happy to hear your feeling much better. Keep well Mr.Holt! Stay Safe as always Richard!! Glad you acknowledged Danica's win. Yes it can happen even to a woman if you have faith. I had faith in Eli Manning as he put up the hail Mary. Danica has always been the best and the one to watch now she's a winner. I'm looking forward to the next person I have faith in yes Hillary Clinton will be a winner too.
Good to see the new Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel. He always give the facts with fair/balanced reporting. That is a comfort to us Military families. Now it will be interesting what Richard will be reporting when the US pulls out of Iraq and let the Iraqi people take care of themselves.

As to your report on the gas prices. Sorry to say here in California it's already 4 dollars a gallon and going up. Iraq is pumping millions of barrels of oil a day while the oil fields are being guarded by US soldiers. Now the price is so high because yes the low US dollar but also for the oil company shareholders. Look Lester with no one watching the store and no accountability these guys can do what ever they want until we get a President.

I hope the Pope's message is remembered after he leaves.

Lester you were very kind with your words on how the Democratic candidate news is reported. We did see ABC Debate Debacle you know.

Why after weeks of showing pictures of the FLDS children in Texas are you now blurring their faces?

The CPS agents were holding sheets up next to the bus doors while the cameras zoomed in between the sheet and the bus door to capture their faces. Even with the blurring some of the smaller children were below the blur.

How long before someone will come up with the FLDS diet?

Of all the videos I've seen none of the women were overweight and many were just plain skinny, and you can tell they were skinny under their dresses.

With all the new diet and exercise infomercials and more every weekend it won't be long before somebody creates the newest, latest greatest diet fad featuring skinny women in those dresses. Do those women go out for fast-food bacon cheeseburgers or do they grow and eat what is on the ranch?

Watched the show tonight. I was awed by the report about the companies that pollute the environment but remain on the EPA's list of best environmental standards. What is wrong with the administration? How can the EPA just run amok like this? I am impressed by your reporting and hope that you continue to inform us about this type of corruption. It's up to us to tell our elected officials to right the wrong.

Because I do attempt to be fully informed, not one of those "emotional Negroes" as the media continues to attempt to define any African American who supports Senator Obama, I decided to watch at least part of the Senator McCain interview by George Stephanopoulis on ABC This Week. It was painful to watch a man who stuttered, sputtered and misspoke in an attempt to control his emotions (aka, temper) unsuccessfully masked behind a really odd smile throughout the interview. He inadvertently said that he would increase the taxes of the general population -- in all fairness, I think he meant decrease, but when you run for the office of president should you be allowed to misspeak on such an important issue? Personally, after listening to him, I find the idea of him as a president of this country kind of scary. But let's put that aside for a second. He went to great lengths in attacking Senator Obama concerning Ayers, in another guilt by association attempt to besmirch him, even though Senator Obama was eight years old when Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground Ayers lives in the same neighborhood as Obama and was on the same board once. I am still not clear as to why Senator Obama is to be held responsible for that. But George Stephanopoulis had done his homework. After McCain's tirade about the purported Obama - Ayers connection, George then asked him to explain how this was any different from Pastor John Hagee, an influential minister who has endorsed McCain and his anti-Catholic comments. McCain has embraced this endorsement, yet we don't see any repeated loops on CNN, NBC, Fox News of these comments and this has been all but buried as a news item. Yet McCain has not distanced himself from this endorsement at all, he hasn't rejected it, his response on ABC This Week was "I don't agree with his comments," followed by a sarcastic "But thanks, for asking." How hypocritical of him. More than that, how hypocritical of the media for not giving this the same level of coverage as given Minster Wright. Wonder why?

Why aren't you reporting on the NY Times story about your "military experts" being part of the Pentagon's PR machine? One more way that you are allowing the Bush administration to manipulate you and the information reaching the American people. You should be ashamed, as should these so-called "analysts." It's essentially a prostitution ring of former military people, selling their services. How much lower can we go?

My husband and I were at our daughter's in Williamstown, Kentucky and I tuned in to see if
you would be on the program or still under the weather. Or I should say my daughter tuned in for me
as I do not understand their satelittle system.

My husband, however, taped Nightly News for me and
he programed it right but we got some program from
HBO or Outer Space.. It was weird. Mr. Holt.

So I missed you andyour reporting except for five minutes
of it at my daughters. But again I'm glad you're
feeling better. As you have no doubt picked up, I am
not high-tech.

Interesting to watch Obama and Clinton go at it with such vigor, although I can't imagine Barack getting his hands dirty. Still, it's very entertaining.

The apparent split in the Democratic Party might come to an end soon, but how long will it take to heal?

My bet is on John McCain in November, no matter who smears who in this Democratic dog fight.
