Jon Stewart had a wonderful send up on Tuesday night's show about the whole thing. His Daily Show had pictures of past male politicians in tears and sobbing over various issues, and then he showed the photo of Hillary. Next, Jon said deadpan into the camera with raised eyebrows "Tears? Oh, please!" When are people going to stop judging Hillary with double standards? Male politicians have had their chances for over 200 years to rule and legislate effectively. Let's let a woman have a chance, A CHANCE to run for the office without analyzing her every movement to pieces. Let's level the playing field.

Netcast viewers: we hear you

I love it when it works. Unaffected by the media's biases.

This subliminal desire to "make" the news that has crept into our instant gratification world, partially created by the media, has created an information monster that you feel you must feed continuously. Five days after Hillary got emotional we don't need constant "paralysis by analysis" on who, what. why, where, or when. Spend that time being more introspective on YOUR responsibilities in reporting the news, and don't insist on making it. Then, and maybe, only then, will you realize what really went wrong, and why it is assured that you will again make the same mistakes, over and over. Give the American people some peace and quiet, and the ability to use their common sense on the issues, the candidates, the family values, etc. that are or are not important to them. Quit affecting and start being effective and stop interjecting your (MSNBC) agenda, however minor you think it may be, into reporting the news. Every poll you take or report affects the results, whether you like it or not....every report on tears, fears, race, religion, gender, etc. may or may not slant an opinion with your opinion. It's not YOUR job...let the candidates handle it. If they can handle the office, they should be able to handle getting there.

Thanks for letting me rant....and I hope that maybe it will shed some insight into "What Went Wrong".

Netcast viewers: we hear you

Brian,
In the excitement of covering the 'news' of Sen. You made it nearly impossible to find the netcast the last time, now more flyouts and clicks. What is so hard about putting the netcast icon, RIGHT THERE, RIGHT IN FRONT, SOMEPLACE WE CAN SEE, AND JUST CLICK ON? The new viewer is nicer, but the playback is slow, and I have a fast connection. Do you have to try to make it everthing? With so many places for news, I find it difficult to return to this site as it is burdened with too much, and too heavy on the computer. My experience working for the Dept. of Health and Human Services, beginning with the Clinton administration and continuing through this year, has been the opposite of what you have been reporting-- males getting lower grades and salaries than females working in the same jobs. Also, after now nearly 4 decades of women (read mothers) and media telling young women they are smart and should be ambitious and telling young men they are not responsible and not up to their calling, it's no wonder young men aren't enrolling in college. They've been killed before they started.

Netcast viewers: we hear you

You are just like Mircosoft, had a system that was easy to use so you had to change it. It is not up to the President to provide an “economic stimulus package’ to put more money in Americans’ wallets. As the world’s stock markets slide on news of our nation’s problems, it goes to show the global economic strength America has. Yet, these markets, under foreign leaders who resist American diplomacy, hide terrorists, and refuse to get their own nations in order, depend on America for their exports and their wealth. Americans have to be realistic. The good times cannot roll on forever. Market corrections will happen. That is when we must question ourselves, not our political leaders, on why we have not adequately educated American children to develop alternative fuel, vehicles, transportation systems, to be able to evolve technology to create new jobs, workplaces, and a more productive America, as they have historically done.
An American president cannot do anything alone. Congress, the public, and society as a whole must support their leaders. The leaders must be respected by other national leaders, or America’s safety is jeopardized. Who amongst the candidates, on either side, will be able to respectfully fill this role and set an example for our children? Who carries themselves with dignity, strength of character and purpose? Things will NOT change in Washington until we, as Americans, change our neighborhoods, our attitudes, and our children’s education. We must improve ourselves, and educate the next generation of Americans, from whom our leaders will come.
Netcast viewers: we hear you

I have read and heard some people say they are going to vote for one candidate or another because of things others are doing or saying about them. Maybe this is why our country is in the mess that it is in. People please, think about the indivisual candidate and what they themselves are saying they can do for us. Please take this seriously, don't vote for someone who cannot do the job just because someone else called them names or said mean things about them. We need someone who can get things done. Our senior citizens, children and poor in this country need a President who will help them. Someone who will stop sending money overseas until all of the Citizens of this country are taken care of. Although Ron Paul has beat Rudy Guilliani in a number of debates you guys continue to give Rudy preference over Dr.Paul. Rudy is profiled several times a week and Paul gets virtually no time at all. Can you explain to all of the Ron Paul supporters why. I know that you profile "front runners" so if that is the case then why is Ron Paul not profiled more often. He raised more money in the fourth quarter than any other candidate and clearly beat Rudy in both Nevada (by double digits)and Louisana. I believe that if you gave him the same time that you give the other GOP candidates he would have the same nightly and weekly profile time as the others he would likely beat out both McCain and Romney in the polls. Further more I would like to note the very obvious showing of both yourself (Brian) and Mr. Russert not asking Ron Paul the same amount of questions during the Florida debate. I believe the obvious answer would be that people want to see the fron runner answer the questions yet I can't help but believe that Ron Paul would be the man getting all of the questions if you gave him equal air time. Thank you for being so gracious to give a Ron Paul supporter air time if you won't give it to Congressman Ron Paul himself.
John Quandt
Age 28

Netcast viewers: we hear you

I was very disappointed that the morning news made no mention of the death of beloved Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gordon B. This would stimulate the economy and it would not cost the government anything because people would be spending their own money. It would fight inflation, allow quick access to money and it would not hurt the government. The middle class would benefit the most from this but right now they are the ones that benefit the least and carry the most economic burden in our country. You can limit the amount of money you allow up to a certain amount.

Another thing that you can do is cut the federal taxes and give tax credits on anything to do with energy and generating alternative energy sources. This would make the cost go down on gas and anything used to generate energy and people would spend more. This would do a few things:
Stimulate the economy because people would travel more and spend more.
It would get businesses more involved in generating alternative energy resources.
People would invest in alterative energy devices for their home and industry.
It would make the US less dependent on oil.

Netcast viewers: we hear you

Your story on Thursday 2-1-08 about Mayor (of Detroit)Kilpatrick's apology for racy text messages with he chief of staff, was in itself not news. What is news was that a few months ago they both lied under oath in a whistle blowers lawsuit that they were not sexually involved. The mayor is under investigation by the prosecutor's office for perjury, as is his chief of staff. If you are going to take up air time to report an apology by the mayor of Detroit, you should report the whole story. If Brian Williams spent less time thanking the reporters for there news stories, and less time telling us what we are going to hear after the break, there might be more time to fully tell the viewers the full story.

Another thing, enough already with the constant "as always" when finishing an interview with a reporter. It should be made readily available and readily apparent where things are. This problem of finding things is the scourge of the 21st century--websites, phone menuse, tutorials. Things need to be easier to find. I looked all over the place for a complete broadcast. Whoever designed this new site designed it with themselves in mind. They need to step outside their organization and trace the steps viewers use. I didn't find the link to this explanation on the main page until after an hour. YOU CANNONT CANNOT DO THIS TO PEOPLE. My main interest is that you communicate this to your webmasters. Even though the words "previously" and "
as broadcast may seem clear enough, what I happened with me and I suspect a lot of people is that they see, the words "as broadcast", and not reading that above the dates it says "or select clips by date" and instead think "as broadcast" is a title for the dates below. In other words, you read, "as broadcast" look down see a bunch of dates and assume that it means "as broadcast" and then you can select among several dates. You can't blame the users for not reading. That's not good enough. You ahve to anticipate how things can be misunderstood. My hobby by the way is to analyze these things and email those responsible. It's really messing up society and creating frustration as society gets more complicated. It will eventually lead not only to undue stress, but to all sorts of dire consequences as technology becomes less manageable. You're expected to read all sorts of tutorials and 60 page instruction manuals. People don't have time for all that. It's an imposition and a danger to society.

Netcast viewers: we hear you

I think that rather than have a tiny link on your website that says, "Where to find the netcast" and sending people to read an explanation of how to find it, the more practical thing to do would be to have a link that's larger that takes you there.
