There a many more people out there during the holidays and one can't always walk casually. Sometimes its safer in the newsroom. Now on to the broadcast. Nice to see Mr.Brokaw in the newsroom. Interesting segment about the evangelicals and their ideas. Certainly a different viewpoint and more technology involved in getting the message across. On another note I liked the viewer e-mail segment very humorous! The "Making a Difference" segment was so very inspirational. What a wonderful thing for that young teenager to do for those kids in Zambia. Building the high school and now he wants to build a hospital. I hope everything he does for them happens. It is great! Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. (And I really don't think you need a mustache. You look fine without one. Except for the firefighter skit on SNL.) Have a great weekend! See you in Seattle on Monday. Peace to all!

We get letters...

please tell me how to financially support that young boy who has raised the money for the high school in Africa, that you reported on tonight in your "making a difference" segment. That report made me cry.

We get letters...

Brian,
My family loves your evening news broadcast. My daughter and I watched this evening and she is still between both Hillary/Obama. You know I with Hillary. My son's shocked me as they said they will vote for Hillary. It is going to be close with Blacks voting for Hillary/Obama. On a side not Brian I think Oprah has lost touch with Black people, she's nice but she has moved on to the point she's out of the loop. Yes she might remember the way it was but she is clue less as to how it is now.

I think once the Church became part of the White House it's not about God anymore it's about money. Notice how all the Pastors are lining their pockets and committing sins. This was done before as the bible tells it so it's nothing new. I did like the young Pastors comments and I hope he continues serve God and stay out of politics.

I didn't catch the error of at the airport I just have a regular TV no TVO or what ever it's called.

I am glad the people at Hillary's campaign office got out safe. Every major cable and satelite provider in the U.S. is affected by this issue. It makes trying to watch not only the national news but "prime time" programming on NBC extremely annoying. Certainly SOMEONE in your engineering department must be aware of this problem. Perhaps, I would have loved to see that the story ended in a whole different level, I am glad you are showing the rest of the world that illegal immigrants are just like everyone else, men and women, who are looking for an opportunity to a brighter future for themselves and their families. Most importantly, many of them are willing to work for long hours and low pay for as long as it takes as long as they get to take care of their loved ones (many times, they would not even complain). Many of us will be forever grateful that this country has allowed us the opportunities to better ourselves and to accomplish the American dream. From a very grateful ex-illegal immigrant (became a US citizen in 1996). I always knew that I would have to do my part and the only way for me to pay back to my new country would be to serve in the US Armed Forces. Once again, thank you for sharing this story with the rest of America.

Roxana
Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army

We get letters...

Kerry Sanders said on 12/02/2007 evening news: "There are no international observers here watching the election... none from any internationally recognized groups" yet the print version says: "About 100 electoral observers from 39 countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States were on hand, the electoral council said."

Which is it?

Looks like Kerry is carrying the Bush administration's propagandist line.

We get letters...

Americans were outraged at what happened to that girl in Saudi Arabia. She was arrested for being in a car with a male who was not a relative;then gang raped by the religeous police. If she becomes pregnant'she will of course have to be killed for bringing great shame upon the family.

We get letters...

On behalf of the American Mustache Institute, I would like to thank you for reading the letter about mustaches in society. Two of the most glaring errors by newscasters (including you)is the usage of more, or most importantly for what should be more, or most important. The assumption is that the phrase "More important" is a continuation of "What is most important". "Is" is a linking verb that requires an adjective for the predicate nominative. If you doubt me, google it. Once Americans realize how gullible and complacent we are, thinking our lawmakers, government and the FDA have taken the necessary steps to protect our food supply - we will demand GMOs be banned until safety tests PROVE they are safe.

Monsanto claims there has been sufficient safety testing on genetically modified (GM) foods. They failed to disclose that the person in charge of the FDA’s GMO policy was Monsanto’s former attorney, and later their vice president. The policy claimed that the agency is unaware of information showing that GM foods are substantially different. But documents made public from a lawsuit reveal that the overwhelming consensus among agency scientists was that GM foods could lead to allergies, toxins and new diseases. Evidence now shows their warnings to be valid.

The only human feeding study ever conducted found that genes inserted into GM crops transfer into the DNA of human gut bacteria, and remain functional. This means that long after you stop eating a GM food, you might still have its potentially dangerous GM protein produced inside your intestines. Analysis reveals that biotech companies meticulously design their superficial studies to circumvent finding these and most potential health problems.

Only the thundering clamor of wallets snapping shut will inspire US food producers to remove GM foods from stores the way they have in europe.

Hershey's and Mars have been vocal against in their opposition to GM sugar beets heading our way in 2008. You sure don't make it easy to communicate with you--do you have the all so typical thin skin of a doctrinaire leftist? I spent over 5 minutes finding this section on the NBC website.

I am writing about your segment tonight on the "news" (12/4) about the suprise female winners of the Siemens prize for science this year.

No, this is not because people think that females "don't like science" as was implied, it’s that high IQ and being very successful in science are highly correlated in favor of males. You may have missed that fact in college when you were being brainwashed to believe that this is gender bias.

In fact, what you reported, in the absence of discrimination against males, was an anomaly. Over time, males will consistently outperform females in science at the highest levels, even if every Harvard president is fired for saying so (since you mentioned that EX- Harvard President Lawrence Summers had said this).

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you selected this story and slant on it as Chief Editor for NBC Nightly News, since you chose Mother Earth as your selection for Person of the Year in Time Magazine. Pathetic, but oh so predictable.

Do you want to put your money where your mouth is? I will bet you depreciating U.S. dollars on males continuing to overwhelming dominate this competition (given the qualification I mentioned above—after all your type still think you can change the world, or manipulate people’s perception of it, even though the 60’s are long gone).
We get letters...

Dear Brian,

Thank you again and the Daily Nightly cast and staff for a truly awesome and gutsy series on African-American women last week. Should we make him famous, thereby sending the message to other would-be mass murderers that they too can become famous? At one time in ancient Athens there was a brief copy-cat epidemic of young women committing suicide. The city elders issued a decree that the body of any young woman who committed suicide would be displayed naked in the public square, and they followed through with it. The suicides stopped immediately. Sounds barbaric, but what if we treated the body of mass murderer-suicides similarly instead of turning them into anti-heroes?

We get letters...

With all this talk about lead paint in toys, has anyone addressed the plastic dishes used by children?
All made in China - with Disney characters, etc. Is there any harm in these? Even the baby spoons I use are plastic, made in China and probably hazardous. Wondering if these are high in lead as well. Thank you!

We get letters...

Liked the series you did on black women. Also, the story about how young women are gaining in science education. However, you are missing some important national developments that have a critical and profound impact on the U.S. Gains by women in science are basically among white women. Real challenges are the increasing gap between educational attainment of Black and Latino males vs. women, especially white women. You ought to look into this. After all, Latinos are the largest and fastest growing minority group in the U.S. Read the new Pew Hispanic Center report on Latinos and the 2008 election!

We get letters...

Mr. Williams:
There is a wonderful new website that just went online that you may be interested in at Nightly News. It is positive, informative, and full of helpful information. It could be a good source for so many people who may be facing a separation or divorce. I think that you should send a crew to show how many cards have been sent. It might do the soldiers well to know! I work in a hospital and feel that the hospital needs to reevaluate their policy. Ask the community to help with the problem of handling the cards and possibly allowing the soldiers to pick cards from the mail if they want. I feel they would appreciate it. Volunteers in the community would probably love the chance to help with this project. I am sure that many people sent cards to soldiers to let them know how thankful they are for what they do for us. We need to allow them to see what has been done!!

We get letters...

Brian
As a WWII Marine, your story on Nov. 6th on
the mailing of Christmas cards to veterans at REED
hosptal really upset me. But today the one man who stood up and told the truth and even received harassment from the White House and the US has becomes famous. The Iran President didn't look like he was going to be re elected in 2009 as the Iran people weren't going to vote for him. Then along came Bush who did every cruel thing he could against this man even lied to the World. Then came the NIE report that showed Bush yet again lied to everyone. Now the Iran President is greeted like a Rock Star and will be re elected as President. Who says Bush doesn't make people famous look we didn't know Bin Laden but Bush/Cheney have made him an international Name and hero to the Middle East. Slowly the truth about who was really behind the 9/11 attack is coming out over seas in the Media. Soon the full story will come to light and you can be sure the names of the US and Saudis are in it. I do feel bad for the Military Families that still believe Bush/Cheney were telling the truth, when they have to deal with the fact they were lied to it will be one bad day.
I do admit I don't blame the CIA for destroying the tapes as it would be shown as crimes against humanity and the UN would be all over it. As the White House continues to do is destroy all evidence of the crimes committed and let the Staff use the memory lost defense as Dick Cheney is using too.

My Cal. State Rep. Calvert is looking for support for the billions the White House wants. I had to laugh as this man is under investigation for crimes and has already been charged and convicted for sex with a prostitute who was on drugs in a public place. You just can't make this stuff up. Don't worry it's all public record.

We get letters...

Dear Mr. Williams, I have been watching NBC and other news agencies cover the Omaha killings. I think we, as a nation, are right to ask what caused this. But, after so many of these senseless killings, maybe it's time we stopped obliging these demented people who use the pain and death of strangers to make themselves 'famous' (really infamous). In the Omaha case the young man obviously knew he would be the subject of intense news coverage, he said he would be famous, and so he was right. News agencies have rewarded him in exactly the way he wanted to be rewarded. I don't believe that is the intention, but it is the result. And it encourages other damaged people to follow in his footsteps. There are obviously privacy issues that keep you from reporting on the current victims, but if instead of obsessing over the 'poor killer' you showed stories of the affects on past victims, then those who consider this path in the future will see strangers as human beings, rather than viewing them as no more than targets in a video game. And maybe there will be fewer of these stories to cover in the future.

We get letters...
Re: The Mall shooting.
What I really want to know, living in metro NY, is what is the Step-Father doing with an AK-47 in the first place, and when is he (the step-father)going to be arrested for that?
