Good Evening Mr.Williams, First of all I do hope the writers reach an agreement soon because there are many things happening in the news that can be talked about on these shows. Also Happy Birthday to Jon Stewart! Now on to the broadcast. The Middle East Peace Summit moves forward and one wonders if anything positive is coming out of it. Tony Blair made some valid points about looking at the bigger picture with the extremists and the moderates. It is certainly a huge challenge dealing with that region. The report by Ian Williams concerning the relief aid to the cyclone survivors in Bangladesh showed how much the United States is needed in helping other countries. These people are so desperate for drinking water,food,medicine it is difficult for all the supplies to reach everyone at once, but I'm sure it will eventually reach them. Finally,the "Helping Hands" story was very sad and touching. It was really wonderful how that man who crossed the border was able to help that young boy who had just lost his mother. I really hope he is able to return to the United States. Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. I hope you enjoy the Rockefellar Christmas Tree all aglow with lights. Peace to all!

Can you imagine that entire segment of the population who watch Jon Stewart, thinking he's the real deal in news? However do they stay informed in times like this? I was too young to care about the writer's strike in the 80's but it just seems ridiculous that the very ones who make our favorite shows (CSI & spinoffs, NCIS, Without a Trace, Law & Order & spinoffs....) what they are aren't given much ado by the industry until they're protesting - even striking. Maybe not having fresh shows to watch with make some people *gasp* turn to books or return to family night.

Thank you for the story about the illegal who helped save the young child. Regardless of the man's status, it is a great human interest story that needed to be told to help restore some faith in humanity.

Brian why are you surprise at the Stock Market. With the Middle East money saving Citi Corp. and more US companies looking to be bailed out with Middle Eastern money who will own who. Like your car, as you borrowed the money from the bank it's the bank that owns the car. The more the US borrows the more we lose of the USA.

Tony Blair was given a job by the White House for his good job of following their orders. Mr. Blair's son was even given a job by the White House. It's sad but Tony Blair will always be remembered as the White House puppet. So he none of the World Leaders will listen to Mr. Blair.

As for Brother Bill Clinton. I notice it's always about who went along with the Iraq War. Bush/Cheney lied to everyone even the UN yet it's never their fault it's still someone else's. Brian when we have another disaster in this country and Americans are begging or help you can beat Bill Clinton will be called in to help. But it's so easy to attack him yet easy to tell him to help the American people when the White House does nothing. I believed Bush was telling the truth about Iraq only to find out I was trick too.

The immigrant who saved the little boys life will be rewarded for showing it means more to put a human first. Yes the Christians and Law Makers don't think of the immigrants as people we this man showed how wrong they are. It's sad America has come to a place where we no longer value life or others. I know in my heart God will bless this man above others as he showed what the bible teaches. Let's hope others learn. As God was watching this man only came to the US to work, yet he stopped to help a young stranger.

The interview with the young Black woman is very interesting I'll make my comments on the posting.
It's been a struggle living as an African American but it is worth it. I have been people of all colors that would make those who died for freedom so proud. My family didn't raise us to look at color as an issue so my kids grew up not being taught racism or even using color as to who you like or not. I still laugh as my first crush was on the young handsome President John F. Kennedy. My Dad laughed and said it was ok because the President was married and I'd grow up and like many more boys. He told me later when I was grown it was safe for him as he didn't have to worry about the boys in the neighborhood.

Viewers of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" understand and appreciate the show as a satire of the news, not as news itself. You have to be informed about current events in order to fully appreciate the humor and insight of Stewart's show. If someone relied on "Daily Show" as their only source of news, much of the show wouldn't make sense to them. And while it may be possible to enjoy the show as plain comedy (just as it's possible to enjoy a piece of classical music as some pleasant-sounding notes), an informed and intelligent viewer, like a student of music or a lover of the arts, gets more out of it.

"Daily Show" viewers are among the most well-informed in the population. In April, the Pew Research Center published a report that found that regular audiences of "The Daily Show/The Colbert Report" (as well as audiences of major newspaper websites) were the most knowledgeable about national and international affairs. Among the least knowledgeable? Regular audiences of network evening news, local TV news, and the Fox News Channel.

In my household, we get news and analysis from newspaper websites and magazines. And when we feel like having it topped with humorous (or humorously brilliant) commentary, my husband and I tune into "Daily Show" and its sister program.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are godsends in our current media landscape. They are thoughtful, relevant voices in a sea of noise, encouraging a higher level of public knowledge and public discourse, while simultaneously giving us a way to look at the state of affairs and still laugh. Now that's something that helps me keep my faith in humanity.

I'm also glad you included the story of the Mexican and the boy. I had read it in the paper earlier so it was good to put a face to the story and to let even more people know about it.

It's sad enough that most young Americans get their political education from a comedy show on TV (and I'm sure John Stewart would be the first to agree). But it has to be acknowledged that the Daily Show is a rare case of intelligence and wit on TV, which also makes the issue of the strike very easy: just pay those who actually possess the creative minds to put the wit in these shows bringing it to such a broad audience and thus doing a far greater part than they should. Or write the stuff yourself.

Thankyou Kate, that's exactly what i was thinking. But I'd like to add, as one of the minority--uninformed Daily Show devotees, that I do learn more on current events from the Daily Show than the average news cast. Sometimes additional background info is even given to drive home the joke. Its entertaining AND informative. Also, if I'm totally lost, then I know what to look up on the intertubes, to become knowledgeable on the topic.
