Your latest blog seems very familiar to me in the sense that it is my life now. I am a college student at Western Carolina University and I am graduating in my (hopefully) with a degree in Broadcasting. With being Vice President of my Fraternity and doing class work, all nighters are common. Doesn't it give you a sense of accomplishment when your finished?

I am a big fan and watch your program every night via podcast, because I never know where I am at 6:30 each evening, and after spending a semester studying Network News cast, I have to say your the best. Your innovation and ability to take the broadcast to different mediums has really attracted the younger generation. Keep up the great work and I will be watching this Saturday.

I, too, was watching Saturday Night Live back in the 70s and was fortunate to attend a dress rehearsal - host: Michael Sarasin and a musical guest lost in what's left of my memory. I must admit to dropping the habit after the original cast left. Kudos on the debate and a seamless news broadcast the next day. I couldn't tell that you were sleep deprived. Keep up the good work. I'll try to catch SNL, but it's a bit late for me. No, I don't have Tivo. (I pay enough for technology with digital cable, high-speed internet and cell phones for four people.) Hopefully, I'll find it somewhere on the web if I miss the broadcast.

Wow. I wish I was still living in New York so I could wait for standby tickets to this show. I've been a fan of the show for years as well (though probably not as long as you have). I am also, like Joe, a broadcasting major and a big fan of Nightly. Getting a chance to live in Manhattan for 6 months last spring was an intensely rewarding experience, and I worked not far from your building, as a matter of fact. Don't hold it against me; I had an internship over at 1211 6th Avenue.

I wish you the best of luck Saturday, though I can tell from your many appearances on Conan O'Brien that you'll do fine. Make sure not to ask Lorne anything unless he has popcorn. Apparently, that's the key, according to his many assistants.

Break a leg! Maybe when I make it back to New York, I'll get the chance to meet you!

I was glad to see Ron Allen's story on the young man who was injured when the water pipe burst in July. He is truly a courageous man. We need more stories like his in today's world.

The nanny state... yeah, I don't like living in it. Whatever happened to a person being aware of his or her environment? When DID we decide that the government needed to protect us? I don't believe for a moment that the government will protect me; I am no longer shocked to hear of more stories of botched protection. The nanny state has made us all afraid to LIVE.

Good Evening Mr.Williams, My goodness Mr.Williams I cannot believe after the Democratic Debates you joined an all night meeting for Saturday Night Live. That is some schedule and you are definitely multi-tasking this week. You really did need all those snacks! I don't know how you managed to stay awake for taping an appearance on Conan O'Brien. You are being a "SuperAnchor" this week and doing a great job! Now on to the broadcast. The report on the economy was not good. This housing crisis is just terrible and it is so sad to see people lose their homes they worked so hard to buy. I know that the stock market always rises and falls, but today was really a huge drop. Hopefully things will get better soon. The "Kids Now" segment by Mr.Faw was again pointing out things about children today that makes me wonder how I ever mangaged to grow up. Things have become so restricted for these children no wonder they are stressed. I realize the world is not the same as when I was a child, but I think in some ways people are over protective of children and what they can do. Not everyone should be given a trophy for just participating in an event. There should be winners and losers. Encouraging a child to do better not criticizing and praising the child who does well, but not allowing them to become too conceded with their success. In life there are winners and losers, ups and downs. Everything and everybody is not perfect. Everyone is not an honor student and in your business Mr.Williams not every network or journalist wins awards. Just imagine if they gave out awards to everyone who was nominated just because they turned in a report. How would anyone know how they were doing against their peers. The people who do reach great success really work hard to achieve it. Always striving to do better, but if you fail keep trying and you will reach that goal. These children need to enjoy being kids. Everyone needs to calm down and allow these chidren to grow up nicely without all the extra stresses upon them. Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Try to get some rest. Have fun at rehearsal again! Peace to all!

Just reading your schedule makes me tired. What strikes me is the variety of things you do each day; doesn't sound like there are many "normal" days. How wonderful for you that you are able to work at a profession that you so obviously enjoy.

Your newscast was great as always. What a difficult decision the people of California face--what to do about the ten year old boy who started one of the fires.

The story about overprotecting our children was thought provoking. The times and social conditions in which our children live, to my mind, necessitate the need for different kinds of protection than that given to my generation when we were children. Way back then ( as my grandchildren love to refer to the time of my childhood) we lived in a much different, more innocent world. Taking precautions for our children's safety is simply good sense and doesn't necessarily mean we are raising a Nanny Generation."
The old adage "better safe than sorry" is still good advice.

Brian, I use to be a fan of SNL but when they went to the wide-screen format they lost me as a viewer.

The skits are OK but when they show Weekend Update the camera is not positioned for regular screen viewers. They show the anchor and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the graphic. The audience laughs but I don't see enough of the graphic to get the joke.

Skits that don't show enough of the action I can guess at but when I take the time guess it makes the joke not funny.

I'll watch you as much as I can stand missing out on the jokes.

In your business Mr.Williams if every journalist received an award just for turning in a report it wouldn't show any differenciation between your peers. It is wonderful to be singled out for achieving success. The children today need to be just kids and enjoy their time as kids. They do not need to be stressed at all. Brian the White House continues to say how well our economy is doing as we see the stocks fall today and millions losing their homes. I guess that's what's called good. No Health Care for kids while many kids are breathing in smoke.

I know Andrea Mitchell is glad Anne Royall wasn't treated like Hillary Clinton. As Anne was the first female Journalist to interview President John Q. Adams if she didn't take that bold step Journalist like Andrea wouldn't be working in that field. Hillary is the trailblazer for future woman who qualify for the top job. The attack on her didn't work it back fired. Most men would support their daughters to reach for the top no matter what their dream is. As for this group attacking her well it shows just how weak and unqualified they really are. Yes we know the tricks played now it's gotten old and done so much it's no surprise. America will be just as proud of Hillary as President as Argentina is of their just elected female President. If American Men don't feel woman should hold leadership roles maybe they should stop encouraging their daughters to go to college and work toward their career golds. I was glad to hear Hillary is now getting more support after the attack show. I guess Americans are really ready for a qualified educated President.

Regarding kids and the "nanny state": I agree with Dot, and I'm all for precautions against serious injury and violence as long as they don't impinge on basic rights. Most of the safeguards I've seen are not aimed at stopping all the little bumps and bruises of childhood. But apparently there are those who oppose them (perhaps as part of some general ideology against all regulation). In one way of another, we would all pay a price for that. One thing I do disagree with is the OVER-inflation of self-esteem with meaningless awards, like trophies for 4th place. That's just plain silly.

I had the great fortune (or at least I thought so) of seeing you perform the monologues at a late August UCB show whose title may not be appropriate for a network news blog. You were absolutely hilarious, which I had no doubt you would be after your many appearances on Conan and elsewhere. You also had good comedic chemistry with both Amy and Seth, so I hope you can use that well on Saturday.

With the writers' strike coming, your show will be the last one to air for (most likely) a very long time. You're going to be a trivia answer someday: "Who hosted the last episode of the strike-shortened 33rd Saturday Night Live season?"

Maybe if you do well, they could just throw you out there every Saturday night for the next while with a few of your improv buddies on the show to just entertain the masses sans-writers! (Or maybe you'd rather just have a normal week, with not so much multi-tasking.)

I am a senior at Loch Raven High School and I am news editor of my school's newspaper REVELATION. I want to major in Broadcast Journalism and become a news anchor.

I'll definitely watch you on SNL and, who knows, you might take over Conan's spot as Leno's replacement. I kid, of course. Conan has a lot more comedic history than you do, I think.

One thing is for sure: No one can beat your skills when it comes to news broadcasting!

Mr. Brian Williams,
A friend of mine needs your advice on one of the type of investigative reports that you have done on TV. It has to do with someone in a foreign government (supposedly) needing help in doing business here in the states and wanting someone for a go between and suckering them for money. My friend is a Filipino lady who came to me prior to getting totally hooked up with these people and I tried my best to convenience her to run from these people. Needless she did not take my advice and let them hook her. They sent her money orders and I believe checks as well. She took these items and opened a bank account but luckily did not send them any money yet. She deposited two money orders for $825 each or $1,650 total and was waiting for the money to clear before sending these individuals any money. Now they are pressuring her and the bank is also stating that she owes them more than $500 fee on this money that is not even really there. She was initially contacted through her email address but now is getting phone calls from these people (naturally they have their phone number blocked so that she can not call them back) and from the bank as well. Luckily she has copies of the emails that she received from them or at least some of the emails. She no longer has a computer that works and has come to me again for my help. My advice to her is to run as quickly as she can to the police and give them copies of everything and tell them her complete story and then do the same with her bank and see what happens from there.
Do you have any further advice or help that we might give her?

I am 22 and never cared for the typically dry business of nightly news shows. In fact I had increasingly come to think that perhaps you were physically incapable of cracking a smile. You're right when you said people should be able to understand that Saturday is your night off and your performance on SNL in no way takes away from your obvious ability to be professional. You sound like me! OK, so the tasks may be different but the level of expended engery is about the same. Homeschooling mom, tutoring at night on the side, hauling son to choir practice twice a week, attending concerts, helping him practice. Planning lessons, grading lessons, welcoming daycare/kindergarten student each and every day, daily "Mommy" tasks for said son and 20 month-old daughter. Yeah, it's a busy life all right whether you are editing scripts for SNL or I'm grading a third grader's report on Gettysburg in the middle of the night.
