This is a terrific story, but I am curious as to who is covering the medical liability insurance for these gentlemen. Several clinicians in mid-Ohio have had to abandon offering free care because the cost of doing so was truly prohibitive, and I suspect this happens in many other places but I haven't yet seen that story told. It would be worth investigating...

My family all love reading and living history, none more than my brother Joe Carney. He, his wife and 3 children left last week on a 3 week trip across route 66 to see and feel parts of our great country. They are living the great American road trip on their own dime and sharing it all via his bog rebelworx.blogspot.com. Talk about touching history! This is part of his dream to take his family to all 50 states before he he leaves his 50th year. wallets attached.

Reading the story of George and Charlie I kept thinking it sound like something I already knew or had seen before. Yes at my age it takes time to think that far back but I did remember. Drs. James Parker Sr.& Jr. have the Free Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank New Jersey. Now when I was young working at Riverview Hospital a cute doctor name Eugene Cheslock always did what ever he could to help those in need and those who didn't have money/insurance. He put action behind the words " I care, I will help". Well he and others Doctors got together and said they would give free medical care and the beginning of Red Bank's Free Medical services started. Now I've read other Doctors around the US are looking to do the same.
When we see how good some in the US are we can only hope others follow. Now I am a senior and African American and without Hillary/Obama health care services I know I will never get health care or even be accepted in the Emergency Room as I can't afford the insurance. Now if I were from another country I could get free US Medical care. When I hear and see how Law Makers and even President Bush deny affordable health care, watching Bush allow thousands to die during Katrina and even Gov. Terminator stopping health care for poor, senior and children in California. Well our Leader want to reduce the US population and let as many American die as possible. The plan seems to be working as President Obama is doing everything he can to save all Americans.

I am so glad I listen to NBC news, as I get tired of bad news, and am uplifted when I see news stories like the doctors giving health checks for free. We should all take into account, that these men are truly showing us what one can do for this country. I applaud the news, and these 2 doctors. I am a nurse for 36 years, and in this day of health care madness, it does my heart good to see people helping our community. Let us all take note, and if everyone would do one little thing, think of what this world would become.

A friend of ours broke his wrist on Chicago's icy streets. He had no insurance. I took him to the Old Irving Park Community Clinic. Dr Martinez was able to refer him to Dr. Hoffman of Chicago Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, SC, immediately. Everyone involved took such great care of our friend and treated him with such dignity and respect that it moved me to tears. Our friend's wrist has healed beautifully. We donate money whenever possible to support this wonderful ministry! And if we ever have an orthopedic need, we will use Dr. Hoffman. May God continue to bless these doctors, and all of their staff and volunteers, as they continue to minister to the neediest among us.

Hospitals and doctors very often provide free care to the uninsured. However, a hospital or medical practice cannot survive if all they do is provide free care. Ultimately, it is the patients with insurance or self pay that have to make up the short-fall.

Thanks to Charlie and George and all of the volunteers and community members in the Irving Park Community who makes this clinic work. Giving back is so important these days. The patients who I have referred there have been amazed at the care that they have received by the volunteer staff. Thanks to all.
