Then after meeting all weekend the Senate and House of Representatives were unable to pass the bailout bill. Now one wonders if they will ever come to an agreement and hopefully it will be something that will actually work. I really and truly hope things make a turn for the better.
Regarding the gas shortage here in Georgia it is bad and it is difficult to find a station with gas. One has to conserve how much driving one does each day and not waste a drop. There is one station near my work that hasn't recieved a shipment of gas in over a week. One has to hunt for a gas station that has working pumps and when one does it is great. Not many stations with gas in my area, hopefully it will get better. I hope it gets better by the end of the week.
Looking forward to the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Safe and Well Richard! And now you're whining why you not get an interview? Try to be non-partisan - than you will get an interview.

But I have a question you can ask Palin in the fictious case you will get an interview: How were you able to resist the pressure the national news media put on you to retire the Veep spot?

I also want to state who was responsible for the mess the United States had to suffer today. It was the Democrats fault. Dodd, Kerry and Obama got the highest contributions from Fannie and Freddie. The Democrats were the ones who boxed through the bailout plan and manipulated the original plan by Paulson/Bernanke. It was the left-leaning Greenspan who talked the world into recession. It was the Democrat Schumer who let fail Indymac by saying Indymac wasn't able to exist anymore. It was Obama who wasn't in Washington during the negotiations of the Bailout Plan (he was campaigning). It was Pelosi who was all over the place with Dodd, Schumer and Reid proclaiming the current plan was their idea.

Try watching this two videos and your opinion about the no-good Democrats will change swiftly by the second:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvG-s_Ssb0

I urge NBC News not to block my comment for the sake of clarity who is really responsible for the mess the world is in today. Germans have also a stake in that mess. Today a German bank had be rescued with 27bn Euros of taxpayer money because the bank had bought your bad mortgages. Tomorrow when the German markets will open, certainly the DAX (our stock index) will fall to record lows because of the Democrats inability to have a sound economic policy. The Democats are the phoniest individuals in that economic situation.

Following the news

Many of the House members who voted for or against the bailout voted along party lines. I wonder how many of them actually understand what the end results of their vote will mean. Are the members of Congress there to vote the party line or do they actually think for themselves once in a while?

Following the news

I can't afford a car loan.
I can't afford a mortage.
I don't need a student loan but couldn't afford one if I did.

They said they didn't know if this 700B was going to free up credit lending anyway.

So how about some help down here and let it trickle up. I don't want a hand out. I got a job but I need a raise. Not a golden parachute. Look Paul O'Neill and from Gov. Spitzer said this would happen but Americans wanted to follow the Bush plan. Even Paulson encouraged banks to make subprime loans when he got appointed. Nice move for Goldman Sachs to be biggest winner standing and Paulson even gets bigger share profits. This is what happens will you let the crooks run the US Economy, they have to steal it's all they know. This Administration has failed on everything yet Americans seem to forget the famous blank checks the Republican run Congress gave Bush. When you dance to the music you have to pay to the piper ( you know the rest)

Now to Sarah. After watching Katie Courics interview with Sarah don't look for Sarah to get a brain. Look she is only a second place beauty contestant and Miss Congeniality winner. She lost me with her foreign policy experience only being that she lives next to Russia. She is a disgress to professional woman and to America. I don't think Sarah wants to be intereviewed by a qualified Journalist. I listen to her comment on YouTube when asked about the selection of the nominee for the Democrats. Yes Brian she called Obama sambo and Hillary the b word. Now that leaves me out to vote for her as I'm African American and a woman. Someone should have told her becareful what you say it can come back to you. The President of Russia and PM Putin are getting a good laugh at the GOP nominee for VP.

Nice to see the report on the US Attorney firing. Now the Administration wants to blame low level employess to save Gonzo and Rove. We have lost our Justice System to.

Now who would want to invest their hard earn money with criminals? The Market will recover when new honest Leadership is in charge of the White House, until then look for it to continue to go down. A normal person would try to fix a probam not wait for it to totally fall. I guess many Law Makers really aren't interested in serving the people they represent.

Best to my friends Lisa, Laural, Stephanie, Claudia, Celine, Anna and Matt

RE: Stephanie stay safe during that storm my prayers are with you.
Following the news

Hello Brian,
First I would like to comment on today's historic vote, today's vote is the reason many Americans know that the problenm with Washington is not the President but the House and Congress. Yes we need change but, we need to change the self serving members that put their interest above the interest of the American people. I for one will vote against any incumbent.

As for my question for Sarah Palin, Please asked her if she was ready for the stupidity of the attacks on her and her family.
Following the news

When you look over at Russia from your front porch: do you see polar bears or penguins?

Following the news

Dear Mr Williams.. my 0.02$.. for what its worth.

It looks like both parties want is more interested in complaining about each other but not really interested in the good of the USA. This is when I wish that the President or Vice-president can desolve the Congress and set up a new fresh election for the whole congress. This happens in some countries in Asia.. works really well.

Secondly.. why bail out firms who were greedy by pumping more money for them? Obama and McCain are both wrong. USA is a capitalist country, where a Dog-Eats-Dog attitude should prevail. If a company does not do well because of its greedy executives, let another Dog come in an buy it. FEDs can help the second company to buy the falling one. When one company buys too many companys and becomes very successful, the USA anti-trust laws will help cut it down to size.

Thirdly… Why help greedy americans who spend more than what they earn. Its that greed that makes them fall prey to pre-qualified credit cards and buy mortgages which are > 95% of the value of the house. If you individually are so greedy to borrow more than what you can pay and you know it.. then you are equally to be blamed for this…

On the other hand if you want to bail someone, bail out the common citizen. Give everyone who has filed a tax return in each of the last 5 years a one time tax refund of (excluding anyone who has made > 500,000$ gross income in 2007, criminals and those who are in bankruptcy) $50000 back. Think of it as a "thanks for lawfully paying your tax" refund. The catch here is that if you owe a financial institution debt, your refund will go first to settle your debts. This way the common citizen is happy (credit history does not get dinged and the financial institutions can recoup some of the money they gave up greedly...

But again I am a common citizen with common views and not like these hooligans (both democrats and republicans) in the Congress... With them earning 6 figure salary's they truely do not understand the plight of the common citizen. I would challange them to donate 100$ to each constituent they represent and do not take credit for it... That would be the sacrifice I would be looking for but sadly we live in a selfish world.....
Following the news

Mr. Williams,

Hope you had a great weekend(though I'm sure it was probably busy with the current situation). I am looking forward to tonight's broadcast. I know NBC will do a great job as always of breaking down whats going on and "where do we go from here". I was glad to see that the largest percentage of people voting on your nbc/msnbc related poll said that the best thing to do now is to renegotiate the plan, but still scared that it was only 9 percent higher than the people who said to just let the markets "sort it out". Their is a real split in America about this I have noticed, but I am surprised the majority say to renegotiate, based on the calls I have been receiving at my work.

I imagine you are feeling confident that you will be getting an interview with Governor Palin if you are taking questions now.

My questions for Governor Palin are: How do you think the office of the Vice President will change with a woman filling that role? How will politics change? How will the White House Change? (I'm not sure whether or not that question would be appropriate for a male interviewer to ask. First of all I agree wholeheartedly with Karen McColgan of Atlanta. I heard that statement from Michelle Kosinski in her report and I thought where did she see any station with gas an hour out of Atlanta and with no lines. There is no gas an hour away from Atlanta and if there is I agree with Karen again "How do we get there?" We have no gas here where I live. It is really a problem here where I live and I really hope deliveries come very soon. Thank You Karen for hearing the same thing I did!
On another note the In Depth report was most disturbing about questions concerning voting machines and whether they would work properly on election day. There are going to be alot of absentee voting happening in many States including Georgia and that might alleviate some of the long lines, but it will still be a huge turnout. Only 36 more days to go until election day and one hopes it will just be decided as quick as possible. Hopefully everything will go smoothly on election day. I really hope so.
The report by Mr.Bazell concerning allergies and giving video cameras to patients to record themeselves was heartbreaking at times. It was sad to hear that little girl cry about not being able to play outside like the other kids. My heart just went out to her. Hopefully, through these video recordings it will be helpful in allowing people with allegies live normal lives.
Finally, it is sad the passing of Paul Newman. He was many things, husband, father, great actor, race car driver, humanitarian and more. He will be greatly missed by many people.
Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to ALL!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Jackie-Great to have you back!
Stay Safe and Well Richard! Well, I and my wife are glad it failed. I have my house paid for and no one had to bail me out, because I worked hard and long hours to pay for it. I borrow the money in 1970 with a small down payment. I didn't borrow what I could not pay back. I have been a consertive democrat all my life and I do not believe it is the taxpayer responible to bailout the company that liberal Democrats forced to make loans to people who could not make the payments. I talking about people like Barack Obama, who through the organization ACORN put pressure on banks to lend money to unqualified borrowers in neighbors where even the land was not worth a dime.\, but you have not reported about this. Maria Bartiromo stated on your newscast that this would be felt on main Street but I know for a fact if you qualify you can get loan so stop telling the lies. I thought your news was fair until this election, but now it is obvious NBC votes for Obama. Well, I hope you and Chuck Todd are wrong because I like democracy over Obama socialism thank you. I proudly served my country so we could stay free and I don't think that means bailout the greeding on Wall Street. So start repoting fairly. I remember hearing ads on the radio here in Boston advertising no verification, 5 year ARM's and pay interest only, for the 5 years. I was thinking at that time, are they crazy. The issuing of these loans generated much of the profits for these companies. Currently the banks are broke with all these cheap assets that they love to buy. When the government gives them the money they'll go out and purchase those cheap assets and ride them back up and the cycle will begin again. Wall street can only save itself. As for lack of credit, people should bank locally, at a credit union for example. The people running them are involved in the local economy and are more willing to loan when they stand next to you in line at the grocery store. Maybe these members of Congress are actually doing their jobs and listening to the people who voted them into office. It is clear that many of us who live on 'Main Street' don't want the bailout to pass - so I say "THANK YOU" to those who voted against it. Thank you for listening to the people!
Also, as many have said, what good does this bailout do for ME. I did not get myself into a mortgage that I could not afford - whether or not I read the fine print of my mortgage papers is MY fault, not someone else's. I live within my means and did not rake up huge credit card debt so I could 'keep up w/ the Jones's'. So, what good will this bailout do for me? Raise my taxes? They certainly deserve some of the blame, but the story runs much deeper than that. Why is NBC news not doing all it can to reveal the complexities and complicities of the story? We are actually better off now watching the Today Show for analysis. If we could create an over view consultant agency which would re-qualify Existing Home Buyers of existing personal residence on their mortgage's to allow them to stay where they now house their families at a reduced mortgage payment, without a reduction on the Principal balance, allowing the market to rebound at a later time. And if this idea would help lesson the exodus of the American Families from their Home's and therein help stabilize the market. Then the lenders wouldn't have to take the properties back through foreclosure and eventually the lenders would be paid off. Most lenders would have to have an offset for the loss of income from the existing loan payments, this is where we become creative. We need to offer the lenders an INVEST TAX CREDIT of some sort, to help ease the loss of income during the reduction of payment period. This in my opinion would help stop the down turn in our economy and therefore restart some needed housing projects throughout our GREAT COUNTRY. If you need addition input I'll be available. With this country in the economic situation it is in, rather than giving $700 million to the boneheads who got us in to this financial crisis in the first place, why not give every taxpaying citizen in this country (ones who have actually filed and paid taxes) $1 million each so they can solve their own financial crisis (whether it be credit card debt or mortgage problems). It would save the overburdened taxpayer half of what Congress wants to allocate to these crooks and would get the economy moving again. And please, let's not say it will only cost each citizen in this country $2000. Not every person in this country (children, welfare recipients, etc.) will be paying for this. The cost to each TAXPAYING CITIZEN will be closer to $5000 each. I opt for Congress just giving me $1 million to solve my own financial problems.

Following the news

The Republicans have lashed out for decades at the Democrats, for wanting to raise taxes to pay for what they (the Democrats)think is needed in this country. Kind of the "pay as you go" system, which is what we citizens of this country have to do to get what we need. The Republicans though on the other hand, keep borrowing money from the Chinese (and maybe others) which doesn't look as bad to the American people, since it doesn't immediately affect them. But is it better to do that than the "pay as you need it" philosopy? I think the US Government is bankrupt for all intents and purposes. How much more money will the Chinese loan us before they call in our loans, and ask for a balloon payment! Is our government going to sell our national parks, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore to foreign governments to get the monies needed to pay all these billions back? Where does this all end?

Following the news

I would ask Gov. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18
and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that
equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their
pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your
family?

Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college – it’ll be there

Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car – create jobs

Invest in the market – capital drives growth

Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care
improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+
including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other
company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in
our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do
it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that
is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail
out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean
it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the
$85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG
or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Family plan only really costs $59.5
Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh....I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic !

PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it’s
either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85
Billion!!

Following the news

Hi Brian,
The upswing of the market today seems to indicate the predictions of doom and gloom may not have been justified. I have one complaint about Wednesday Oct 1st nightly news. At the end of the broadcast you showed Chicago and their two baseball teams in the playoffs (Cubs & WhiteSox), you mentioned NYC not having the same thing because they are another city with two teams. I would like to remind you that the great city of Los Angeles does have two teams as well in the playoffs, Dodgers and Angels, I guess you have forgotten about us in the west...Go Freeway Series..Nirpal Missan

Following the news

Hi Bryan,
Why does the cost of the war in Iraq keep coming up & no one has asked the current Congess & Senators why it wasn't written into the support of the war, that Iraq, being as wealthy in oil as they all know it is, didn't insist that we ( the US ) get reimbursed at some point for all or some of this expense so we can support our own infrastructure?

Following the news

In the end all and be all of vice presidential politics, Sarah Palin won the debate tonight, she was strong, persuavive AND won the debate, hands down........if anyone is considering who they should vote for, consider ACORN, consider who and why the mortgage crisis exists...look beyond tonight and discern why the credit crises actually exists........look beyond the present wisdom concerning why and where we are in the middle east...if you look at why Obama is where he is now, who financed his college career, who financed his law school, who is still financing his campaign..look for all the foreign sources of his campagn financing that he wil not! divlulge.........maybe, just maybe...you should think about who is pushing and financing this new-socialist before you vote,,,I certainly have!!!!!

Following the news

Mitchell Spurlock, Ft. Palin, because the fact you are an NBC anchor and should be neutral especially on the air, and are anything but, and also putting her down on the
David Letterman show, is absolutely disgusting. He is
also disgusting making fun of Sen. McKean and Pres.
Bush is very Unamerican and shows ignorance. I used
to be a listener of your news shows, but no longer.
Gov. Palin has more class in her little finger than
you and Letterman together. Tom Brokaw was always
neutral in his reports, but you are so slanted to the
left it makes me sick. You should be an intelligent
man. I'm surprised of your stupidity.

Following the news

My question is for Sen. Obama. How can you say you are the champion of the economy when you worked for and supported groups like Acorn. They provided low income families loans for houses by strong arming banks to give people bad loans. You can be one of causes of the problem.

Following the news

Hey Brian,
I love ya and watch you every night but I have to say the news slant has increasingly gone visibly left. Particularly, Chuck Todd. I really miss Tim Russert. He may have been liberal himself but he somehow was always able to present the political facts without seeming so. Now, I don't dislike Chuck but he definitely comes off as a democrat and always focuses on the negatives of McCain while glossing right over Obama.

Following the news

During the primaries, Sen. McCain stated that he would not run a smear campaign; that he would keep it about the issues and not make personal attacks. It appears to me that the current tactic of questioning Obama's character by bringing up associations with Ayers is doing exactly what he said he would not. This is the old political paradigm that needs to go. It seems to me that McCain and Palin are running an old-style, old-world, old-paradigm campaign. The people are so sick of politics as usual and McCain-Palin don't appear to even grasp that they are playing politics as usual represented by relying on the bullying swagger of personality and personal attacks. I don't know what question to ask Gov. Palin exactly, except that I want her and McCain to respond to this issue. It bothers me that journalists are not discussing the irony that McCain-Palin on running on a change platform and are running the same old tired appearance driven campaign that focuses on manipulating images and identities rather than telling us what they'll do for the country.

Following the news

Has the news gone totally fake? What is this new Michelle Kosinski piece about Global Warming? And you guys keep someone who will stage anything in the name of delivering a news piece? Give me a break, Brian! Whatever happened to the concept of credibility? Is it dead? I think, I'm going back to Charlie Gibson. At least, ABC doesn't invent the news!
