Will there be any stories about the designated protest places in Denver as compared to Beijing? Why is one for protecting the participants and the other stifling freedom of speech?

Any interviews of the protesters to determine their party affiliation? Has the GOP recruited gangs of troublemakers to disrupt the convention or are all the protesters just angry citizens who gathered in Denver on their own with the same message without any organization (other than Hil supporters)?

You must have something more serious topics than naming rights to report on tonight, right?

Hi Brian...Bill Burton , who you interviewed this afternoon on MSNBC was so right. Who are these “people” who know what Hillary and Barack are privately talking about. I hate to say it, but the media is making such a big deal about the relationship between Hillary and Barack. I believe they are manufacturing dissention between the 2 of them. Sure they had negative things to say about each other during the campaign, but all the nominees on both sides of the aisle did. Don’t you think if McCain picks Romney, there isn’t going to be food for fodder there?? That’s all part of the game. Let’s get to the issues!!!! As for Hillary supporters voting for McCain…that’s ridiculous. Hillary and Barack ran on similar platforms and are so far removed from McCain. Why would one vote for the opposing party. If they do, they are not paying attention to the issues….they are voting for the person and not the party issues.

On Obama’s choice of Biden….good for him!!! People are saying how can you have change if you select someone who’s been part of the system for 36 yrs. Well, what better way to approach change with someone with experience and has an “in” and knows what goes on and what needs to be changed the most.

How can someone like McCain who didn’t even know how many houses he owns, know how the average person is going to heat their homes this winter, or how much it costs to fill the gas tank to get back and forth to work, or how much a gallon of milk is be in touch with the average person. He is so out of touch with middle America. You can’t take away his great sacrifice to our country, but that doesn’t make him a great leader. It’s like saying that being a great baseball player is going to make you a great manager….it isn’t so!!

I truly wish more emphasis is spent on the issues and stop the personal attacks. All we hear about is Bill Clinton unhappy with his role at the convention, Hillary supporters going to McCain, choosing Biden was not in step with Obama’s “change” platform. As far as I’m concerned these are picayune issues that have gotten blown out of proportion because there isn’t a lot to report about…namely the issues. How about the war that is still going on!!! 2 young men from the Cape Cod area were killed last week and hardly a word was mentioned. How about the economy???? How about education??? Without a good education, the future of our young people is in peril. I think most Americans are frustrated and just want decency brought back to our country.

The point about product placement raises some interesting questions for me. While you avoid it on the air, this blog has in recent days been filled with glowing accounts of McDonald's burgers and United Airlines' customer service.

Those certainly seem like product endorsements (despite what seemed like a sly quip about United's CEO problems). On the one hand, it's a defensible argument that this is intended as a less formal channel than on the air. If you're sharing some personal thoughts and you really like McDonald's, then, hey, what's wrong with saying so?

On the other hand, you are speaking as an official representative of NBC News. So maybe it's not the wisest idea to speak in superlatives about a particular airline or brand of hamburger...

There's no clear-cut answer here, but it's something to think about.

Good Evening Mr.Williams, Great broadcast from the Democratic National Convention Center. It is going to be an exciting week for the Democrats and I look forward to your coverage on the convention with the speech by Michelle Obama and the Tribute to Senator Ted Kennedy. Hearing Chuck Todd speak about the calendar up to election day seems just exhausting and I agree it is a sprint to the finish. All the debates between the two Vice Presidential Nominees and the two Presidential Nominees will be very interesting and many voters will be viewing intently. Now that Senator Obama has chosen Senator Biden is it now up to Senator McCain to make his choice and as Kelly O'Donnell reported he will keep the media guessing. I'm thinking Kelly O'Donnell will be one of the first people to report his choice only because she is an excellent journalist and because NBC has a great team. Please drink some hot tea with honey Kelly to soothe your throat. I hope your throat feels better!
On another note the report by Mr.Holt from Beijing and the future of China after the games proved that some progress was made, but there is still a long way to go. The Closing Ceremonies were spectacular and just beautiful. The city did look wonderful for the Olympics because so much effort was made to clean the air and beautify the city with all the great venues. It is alarming that several protestors were deported and 77 applications were denied to hold protests. The government of China has strict rules and the expected everyone to follow them. With all the money spent on the games one hopes it will be worth it for China its people. They did a fantastic job! Now on to London in 2012!
The InDepth report by Mr.Gregory about Senator Obama and his "To Do" list shows he needs to really define many things not only about himself, but about where he stands on issues. As stated in the four things listed: 1). Define Himself
2). Define McCain-relating him to President Bush in policies.
3). Define Change-Being More Specific
4). Prove the Clintons are on board.
This is his week to make people know as much about himself as possible.

Time will tell!

Brian -

While flipping back and forth between MSNBC and CSPAN this noon, I came across a panel of black Democratic businessmen, politicians, teachers etc. They were discussing the cautious manner Barack Obama must use to run as the first black Presidential Candidate.

Jesse Jackson, Jr. offered this comment - he said that Barack needs a "PeeWee Reese moment" reminding all present that it was PeeWee Reese who extended a welcoming arm to Jackie Robinson during a tense moment and provided the acceptance that Jackie needed.

I think I saw that moment on Saturday when Joe and Jill Biden hugged Barack and Michelle Obama. It was wonderful.

Hi Brian
I'm resting today after a fun day in NYC and lunch at Juniors. I had to take home half of the lunch but I did that cherry cheese cake. New York is just great and the shopping and sites were great. I did get to see the play of Little Mermaid. I guess you were right about baby boomers it's great to just relax and look at all there is to see. I have to thank my friends on this blog for letting me know about Juniors.

I hear through the grapevine Hillary will get to complete and backing of all the things she promised her supporters. I learned alot in this Primary just how much things have changed in just 7 years. The Media airs it's support for a candidate and the Democrats candidate is picked by the DNC and the Delegates. I always believed in playing fair and never quit. This is a lesson is the plan was made before the game. I did get to hear on Cable some talk shows that are out right crazy. I will vote for Obama/Biden ticket as I like Hillary have to put America first. By voting for McCain it would destory our country. I grew up admiring Presidents like John Kennedy who earned his way. I have to admit the US values and morles have weaken and as I told my daughter I will stand behind these famous words " As not what your country can do for you ask what can you do for your country". I have lost respest for some many Law Makers and I pray we can get some honest people in office who put the American people first before their person gain. That's what I admire about Hillary. She isn't a quitter and she put the American people before personal gain. Obama is lucky to have supporters like Bill and Hillary. Both Clinton's are doers and are always there to help all Americans when needed. Even when alot of Americans put them down they have the class and value to still step up to help.

Cindy McCain going to Georgia for what? John McCain will announce his VP on his birthday while celebrating the Katrina Storm. Now that says alot as I wouldn't think someone would celebrate the hardship and deaths of Americans who were left for 5 days begging for help from the US Government. But I guess that's what the GOP thinks is something to celebrate.

I read on the Foreign news the President of Iran will be in the United States in Sept. interesting to see how he is treated this time. As his last visited he was treat with total disrespect. How do we expect kids to have respect if adults and our Leaders don't.

I'll try to follow as much of the Democratic Convention but you know I'll be watching brother Bill and sister Hillary. I got an email video from Senator Biden and emailed him back. I did email Hillary and I told her when one door closes God opens another one for those who give from their heart.

Brian it looks like NBC is doing alot of changes lately. I was glad to hear that NBC did great in the ratings keep up the good work.

Brian, your NBC colleagues (and honestly, you too) are so obviously using Luke Russert for ratings...each of you trying to establish that you are the one closest to Luke...hoping that the public affection Tim Russert enjoyed will rub off on you.

To tell you the truth, that affection level dropped after Tim's wife appeared on The Today Show and stated that Tim would have been thrilled that his death got more attention than Britney Spears.
To many of us, Tim Russert's appeal was that (unlike so many in your business) he wasn't in it to seek attention for himself. To hear his wife say otherwise revealed a disappointing truth.

Many viewers are getting fed up with the prima donna attitudes displayed by journalists whose main objectives are to push their own agendas and pull down exorbitant salaries.
Sorry Brian, but you're in the business of seeking truth......and there it is.

Brian Williams might as well work for FOX NOISE.

His distorted and tainted viewpoints and critiques about Michelle's speech as well as the messages of hope that were presented, were so textbook so-called "right wing", that I flipped the channel to Charlie Rose.

I only wish that Keith Olberman was strong enough to challenge Brian.....I sure would have.

A shameful, telling display of where the major media is in the country....one which you are alarmingly complicit.

Good evening Brian, I was most taken with the speech of Michelle Obama. You see, it was the content of the speech, along with the delivery of the speech, that was important to me, as I am very sure others feel as I do. It was most unimportant, that there were telapromters ensuring that she or any of the speakers for that matter, stayed on track. The other extras that were not a part of the COPIED SPEECH, showed personalizing, sincerity and Michelle.

You know Brian, I get the impression that there would have been nothing Mrs. Obama could have said this eveing, that YOU would have given her the credit she so deserves. Actually, I kind of get the impression you are either a racist, Billaryite or perhaps just a plain old republican. Oh well, I don't normally view you on the news anyway.

I generally hold your commentary in high regard; however, I am deeply disturbed by your statement today that Michelle Obama's South Chicago experience was more of the kind of "American story" we are used to, while Barack Obama's "bizarre" life story. In a rather xenophobically, racially charged election cycle, with many attempting to paint Barack Obama as "other," your encapsulation of his personal arc as "bizarre" is quite out of place and downright offensive.

The reality of the American future, like that of all globalized nations, is that mobility, seamless borders and transcendence will become more and more "regular," and should frankly be encouraged. Barack Obama's personal narrative may not fit into the constrictive box that you defined as an "American story" this afternoon on MSNBC. In my mind, his story is a quintessentially American one. Where else, would it have been possible.

In the end, I expect more from you, Mr. Williams, and hope that you will make the appropriate effort to correct your remarks and cast them in a truly appropriate light.

After reading Brian's blog tonight, I thought my head was going to explode. I had to breathe into a paper bag and count to ten. Brian Williams writing about naming rights? Every week, Nightly News sells off segments of its broadcast (sometimes the entire broadcast) to a product or corporation (usually a pharmaceutical giant). When a voice at the beginning of last Monday's (8/18/08) Nightly News announced that "Tonight's broadcast is brought to you with limited commercial interruption by Lyrica", what do you think that was? That was NBC selling the naming rights for that edition of Nightly News! For all intents and purposes, Nightly News has become the GlaxoSmithKline/Pfizer Nightly News. Brian Williams railing against naming rights is like Marion Jones railing against performance-enhancing drugs! Hypocricy is too tame a word for it.

And then Brian goes on to say that, "...journalists generally try to avoid product endorsements...." Is he kidding me? Brian's blog last Thursday consisted almost entirely of him heaping praise on United Airlines--a frequent NBC advertiser during the Olympics (and an official Olympic sponsor, as well)! Brian often allows his newscast to be used to plug products and he even does so himself sometimes. When Nancy Snyderman reported on statins a few months ago, Brian made sure to mention Lipitor by name. That's called a plug (Lipitor is made by Pfizer). When Brian reported from a Chrysler plant in Detroit last year, that was a product endorsement. When Nightly News aired several "reports" on Restless Leg Syndrome over the past year, it was done as a favor to their pals at GSK (makers of Requip). Nightly News just spent two weeks in Beijing acting as a promotional tool for the NBC Olympic broadcast. They even did a "news" story about Olympic commercials just to give their advertisers more air time. Brian's loyalties are clearly with the sponsors, not the viewers. His primary goal is to earn the highest ratings, rather than to air the most informative and relevant news stories. As the highest rated evening news show, Nightly News can charge the highest ad rates and earn the most money for NBC. And that's what really matters. "Highest rated newscast" should not be confused with "best newscast".

So if Brian refuses to say "The Pepsi Center" during NBC's DNC coverage, you can bet that's only because NBC isn't earning any money from Pepsi. If Pepsi agreed to pay NBC, Brian would be calling it "The Refreshing Pepsi Center", "The Thirst Quenching Pepsi Center", "The Delicious Pepsi Center" and "The Tasty Pepsi Center". He would call it "The Diet Pepsi Center", "The Caffeine Free Pepsi Center" and "The New Pepsi One Center". He would find creative ways to plug other Pepsi products--"We're coming to you live from the Rocky Mountain Dew State." "After that speech, Joe Biden could probably use a Gatorade." "Hillary Clinton's speech was brisk--like Lipton Iced Tea." I cannot believe that Brian Williams had the nerve to write a blog about naming rights and product endorsements! If someone were to write a biography of Brian, it should be called "The Audacity Of Soap Peddling".

Hey Brian,Think about it this way,you can sleep in the grave.This is history man,and you not only get to live it, you give the entire country your take on it.I've been disabled for 2 years,my employer cheated me in court,so I have no benefits,I have to sell my home because social security insurance will take about 4 years to fight.Thank G-D for spectacular coverage of the Olympics,the Convention,and pre-season pro-football.People like me who can't go on vacation,go to the movies,go to the gas station have few escapes from life, costing one-third more than when president Bush entered office.The inspiration from the human interest stories from the Olympics gives me some hope for mankind.Watching Michele Obama last night on the eve of the aniversary of sufferage and MLK"I have a dream" speech.What possibly could the republican convention have to top even the Ted Kennedy speech? Attack thats what they will serve up,with a side order of negativity.Their headliners will be Bush 41,43 and Cheney.They are the major representatives of KBR,Haliburton, big oil,and their heavy personal financial investments in the military industrial complex.I'ts like K.Olhberman puts it, the reason for the war in Iraq is to have a war in Iraq.The msnbc crew seems to be getting more laughs out of the convention,maybe because of superior wit,except for morning joe,thanks Mika for holding your own,your father will be proud.To my amazement I'm even starting to like P.Bucannan He's pretty funny,for a republican.In closing I have joined the Obama campaign,I worked for the Mcgovern campaign,when I was 14yrs.old as a Boy Scout project,I went to valley college in 1984 to listen to Jesse Jackson speak,and I voted for him in the primary.This time I realized it will take a little more than that to get the man and the gov't I want in the whitehouse and the party I want in congress.I'ts a sad statement for american democracy that more people voted for Sanjya on american idol,than they did for president in 2000.

I've never been a big fan of corporate names attached to arenas and such, heck, here in Pittsburgh it's still the Igloo for me, not Mellon Arena, but that changes when the new arena (yeah, built with public money once again) is built...my money's on UPMC (huge-non-tax-paying non-profit) to get the naming rights there.

Regardless, when there's a corporate name attached I tend to avoid that corporation's products and services, my lil' way of personally rebelling against the way everything in our world has a corporate logo or slogan attached to it.

I will not be watching too much of the conventions. I have to get back to my Jane Austen and another Joyce Oates I have to finish. I thought another person should be President so I have lost interest in the details. I have already made up my mind.

Mr. Williams,
My son (twenties) and I tuned in to NBC and sat down to watch the Democratic Convention last night. Seeing you sitting at the helm was not a surprise since at the moment NBC has few icons left. I have never sent comments on any blogs but your comments describing Senator Kennedy were crass and ugly describing him "... with a ruddy complexion and thinning hair..."! I was aghast, but my son spoke first, "what a horrible thing to say, he looks great". You don't introduce or setup a speaker with that. Why would you say such a thing? Personally, we both think/thought he looked fantastic and rested from his previous tired appearances on the senate committees before his collapse. Not only did he have brain surgery (shaved left side of his head...i.e. "thinning hair..") his hair is beautiful, more than you'll have at his age. And his face had color, his voice had vigor, he looked more comfortable at the podium than you did last night. You don't have to like the Kennedys to respect them. As a broadcaster, your personal opinion of him said loads– before you even saw him. I hope someone pointed it out to you in your earpiece, because we immediately switched to watch Charlie Gibson who is more comfortable in his skin, more sensitive and easy to watch. Mr. Williams, you have no idea how many thousands of people you disappointed by not scripting what you 'should' say. That's what entitles you to earn the 'big bucks'. This is not Saturday Night Live! Without finesse and innate sensibility you are just a mechanical 'talking head'. Sorry, but you've lost a couple of fans here.

Sorry I missed the broadcast last night. I was busy in the apartment and - you may shoot me now - I wasn't able to turn the channel from the local CBS news, so I ended up listening to the national news via Katie Couric. Remember her? I loved her on the Today Show, but I have not appreciated the overall flavor of CBS News since Mr. Rather left. So, while I do enjoy seeing Katie, I was reminded how much I've grown to appreciate the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams! (What was I reading the other day... when I saw it noted as "Nightly News with Brian Jennings" and I went huh? Who is THAT?)

So thanks for the good work, all you who work for NBC News, and maybe, if I can pick my head up, I will be able to watch tonight's Nightly News!

I watched your broadcast this evening (8/27) with the bias that I have come to expect from NBC. NBC and you have become DNC TV (as well as all of MSNBC). The prefuse adoration of Obama is quite objectionable.

Where is Tom Brokaw when we need him for balance and fairness. You sir are no Tom Brokaw.

I doubt that you will accord the Republicans with the same coverage. (Let's not forget the treatment in Memphis.) OH, I forgot, you already admonished us that your focus next week will be in New Orleans with the hurricane. That's fairness.

As managing editor I would like to express my thoughts on the Ann Curry interview of Senator Biden's son on this evenings Nightly News.
I was outraged and saddened by the lack of respect and sensitivity Ms. Curry displayed when questioning (badgering) him on his feelings of his tragically deceased natural mother and his step mother.
If Ms. Curry's goal was to get a tear she succeeded, shame on her and the News organization.

Will Barak Obama repeal all that the Bush administration did to the constitution and restore it back prior to his administration?

I'm a 42yr old female from Shelbyville,Tn.Democrat.After hearing the crap Obama made,at the football thing.Hillery was the one I voted for.The Obama people are saying."They don't think Hillery supporters will go with McGain".WRONG!My vote and all my friends,that are also DEM> are changeing to REP.party.I'll NEVER vote DEM. again.Unless "Hillery Clinton" runs in 4 yrs and is the DEM.VP nominee.I'm so sick Obama saying he's a family man,loves his kids etc.I dare he-Sarah Palin has 5 children ,that has to listen to the Obama CAMP put her down.You don't guestion her mothering of her children.Obama!You'er so rich you'll never have to worry about anything in your life.You have NO idea what it's like to be poor yourself.Your family did it for you.My family does.My family always struggled.Paycheck to paycheck.I'm carring for my mom.Alzimers patient,I can't get a job mom needs ocnstant care.I can't get Teencare since I'm over 21.I broke my foot.Now the bills still aren't paid.But ilegal MEXIGANS here in TENNESSE get's all kinds of help.They don't have to pay,get billed.It's been 5 months since I've been to my docter/gotmeds,It's impossible to pay doctor's visit's ,eye exam's dental visit's.EVERYONE,needs to be on TEENCARE over 40yrs. of age that can prove WHY they can't pay health care.We need a change.You haven't been there to understand.We all 310 of us are voteing Mcgain-Sarah Palin.

I am an avid fan of your nightly broadcast and am appalled by all the attacks against your professionalism and dignity posted on this blog. I would just like to say that I think you are doing a wonderful job covering the DNC and everything else going on in this country.

To everyone else: shame on all of this negativity; what good is bitterness and hate going to bring to the sad state of this nation? What we need now, more than ever, is unity and compassion for one another.
