Hi Brian I watched Senator Obama's speech and it was great. It was good to see us flags flying and not being burned. Obama made the US proud. Now McCain started this and as they say be careful what you wish for. If McCain had gone to Germany he wouldn't have gotten the crowd and for those who did show up would be put to sleep or Lieberman would be making correction for McCain mistakes.

McCain blamed Obama for the high gas prices now as the barrels of gas go down 20 dollars McCain says it's because of Bush. Now I noticed our gas prices are still high and going up.

What a different from seeing Bush tour overseas with people burning flags. Now as for that fake story about McCain leading Obama in four States. Did they ask those who lost their jobs and homes if they were voting for McCain to stay the Bush course.

I was glad Obama told the truth about our country and didn't do what Bush/McCain do and lie. Once we face the truth we can move on. The World has watched what the US has done wrong.

I know this is going to be hard for some Americans to see Senator Obama as the President of the United States but with anyone else in office we will all fail.

I'm still amazed at over 200,000 thousand people came to hear Obama speak, that speaks volumes. McCain would put people to sleep.

Dear Mr. Williams at first:
- A German cannot vote for Presidents: the President is elected by 600 members of the Parliament and 600 delegates of the 16 federal states
- There is no President of Europe: There is only a Commission President of the European Council, currently Jose Manuel Barroso of Portugal who has no legislative, executive or judicial power.

But my point today:

As that Obama talked today to the Berliner people I found it interesting that the following things mystified me:

- Obama wants a nuclear free world. For the record: Barack Hussein Obama voted "Aye" for the India-US civilian nuclear deal. Even the deal is peaceful, he gives nuclear privileges to a nation in a dangerous part of the world where there are nuclear superpowers in the neighbourhood (Iran, Pakistan, China).
- Obama wants to weaken the status of the US worldwide as he more than once called for help in international questions as he says "The US cannot do this or that alone". The US should be a strong nation, because it has been the last 200 years.
- Obama said he was on a fact-finding mission, but here he delivered facts, how hypocritical for a person.
- Obama said that he wants no more "walls" in the world (i.e. like the Wall in Berlin). But at his trip in Israel he didn't mention a word to the politicians there that they should demolish the border wall between the Palestinian areas in Israel. How hypocritical.
- This facts prove once more that Barack Obama is politician who says whatever he wants to get cheered and maximizes his polling results.

And now to NBC:
- How on Earth can you give Barack Obama a significant amount of air-time during the Olympic Games this year. Multiple news sources reported that already. The International Olympic Committee already suspended Iraq for mixing politics with sport. So NBC has to be ousted from the broadcast center because you mixed politics with sport. These Games are already being called for having to much political bias in it as the torch relay was under protests from Tibetan activists and there is huge security presence from the Chinese government. NBC wants or hopefully - after a heavy rethinking period - wants not to air the campaign ads of Barack Obama, worth over 50 million Dollars on NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, USA Network, Telemundo, Oxygen and other NBC Universal owned network channels.
- How can NBC give the Democratic Party, according to the folks at Media Bistro's TVNewser more than 100,000 Dollars and the Republican Party a mere 3,150 Dollars. That shows how much liberal bias NBC got injected during the haydays of Keith Olbermann and an obviously more left-shifting Brian Williams.

Please NBC, for the sake of your legacy and journalistic integrity and not for corporate greed of getting money, please return to the old days where a viewer on your network got informed unbiased and by journalistic greatness of the likes of Lawrence Spivak, John Chancellor, David Brinkley and the late Tim Russert. I want to see more critical news coverage on both sides of the political aisle. Please for your legacy, trust, integrity and valued journalism.

I've been watching NBC News and American news since September 11, 2001 and I've been shocked how much NBC shifted to the left over that time and how much bias you inserted into your comments. Please change that. Because you were and hopefully will be someday a news network of choice with integrity, trust and fairness.

you cite a German journalist for the fictious results. From which newspaper or television station was that politically dumb-funded nutjob with no political knowledge of proceedings in the European Union or at home. Don't tell me it was a journalist from the "BILD". That newspaper sucks to the sky in my country.

PS: In Germany we have a Chancellor, as you may know Mr. Williams who is elected indirectly - via the Parliaments composition - by the people.

Good to see you back on TV. It's incredible that you get to witness firsthand an event, and possibly a series of events that can be seen as historic in nature. Its amazing that just as many people are tuned into our general election as in America, likely even more by the sheer numbers of it all. It makes me wonder what kind of reception Senator McCain would have received in comparison. I can't imagine the kind of fund raising Senator Obama could have done with this trip overseas if non U.S. citizens and lawfully-admitted permanent residents were allowed to contribute to his campaign. I personally feel his presence and or speeches over there will be seen as historic in nature, but I may be enveloped in all of the hype.

Referring to him by his first name just seems rude and disrespectful. Being a WWII vet puts him in the minority these days, as we use other vets every day, but living to be 99 is also an achievement in itself. He is the best definition of a hero, and the fact that he balks at such a title makes the halo that much more deserved. I hope you have a happy birthday, Mr. Finn! I wish more continued health and time with your family.

You'd think Obama was part of the Beatles or something. How'd he get so popular in Europe? I think they only like him because they know they have no hope of electing him to THEIR highest office. I guess I don't understand why a person running for office would go and make promises to electorate that aren't his own.

I'm still listening to his policy opinions and ideologies to determine I will vote for or against him, but I must disagree with Sen. McCain on one issue: that Obama is less patriotic than he. I consider them both patriotic. The question is: how best to use that love of country? Is he a riskier choice? Sometimes, it is better to go with more risk, than with less.

The federal minimum wage went up to what? It is such an insult. At least Maine had the cents to increase its minimum wage to $7 not that long ago. That still seems like an insult. Who can live on it?

Watching the violent radar images on the TV from New Hampshire as it marched into Maine was quite surreal. Tornado warnings? News stations running us through tornado preparedness? Not something we normally go through up here. The photos coming out of eastern NH certainly looks like tornado damage.

MATH - the only thing scarier in school that could make me shudder was a spider in my chair. THIS girl can't do math! I still have problems with 2+2.

Obama's speech was impressive in content and style. He fulfilled the goals I would have set.
I want to emphasize not so much did he hit the mark, but the fact that so many people came to listen with great expectation to a person who does represent the ideas of America. They came to experience the 'symbol' of America virtue and values as it impacts their lives.
On the day that President Bushy was elected I happen to be teaching in Denmark. One of the Medical Staff came to me at the break and announced that George Bush had stolen the election. His next comment was "what did you do to US'? That sentiment is the heart and mind of the Europeans I have known over the last 8 years. I think they see the Obama phenom as a time of restoring an intelligence to the American Presidency that has long been missing.

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A great broadcast from Berlin this evening! Quite an enormous crowd for Senator Obama's speech today and they really seemed to be cheering him loudly. When you spoke with him right after the speech he downplayed his phrases to those spoken by President Reagan and President Kennedy whose words were historic. But he tried to relate on a large scale to the Europeans and people of the world. His words can be inspiring to many and make one think about a bright future and that is always good to evoke. Certainly a historic moment for him. I enjoyed your interview with Senator Obama because you pinpointed the importance of his trip and what impact in the long run it will have in the election. He only spent a short amount of time in all the different Middle East regions and that really isn't enough to sometimes get the full and detailed picture of the situation. I do agree that it was a mistake to invade Iraq because now we have been there far too long. The troops have done a tremendous job at bringing about stability to the country and General Petraeus knows of their accomplishments. Senator Obama agreeing that he is new to the scene is correct. Time will tell in the coming months what will happen once everyone goes to the polls.
On another note the cleanup continues after hurricane Dolly entered the Texas coast. The report from Mr.Teague showed much mopping of water in businesses and homes, plus massive damage around the effected area. Happy to see the sea turtles survived.
Finally, a Happy Birthday to John Finn! You made it to 99! That is awesome! A true American Hero and very deserving of the Medal of Honor. He persevered through immense tough battle at Pearl Harbor and proved to be great soldier. We honor all the John Finn and all the soldiers who serve our country proudly. Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams.

My heart goes out to the folks in South Padre Island who are cleaning up after Hurricane Dolly. We in Florida know the aftereffects of hurricanes all too well. I hope their insurance companies are swift to send in help to settle their claims and life can get back to "normal" for all of them soon.

I would like to send this analysis as a gift for your excellent interview with Senator Obama. Scientifically, one approach states that a variable is caused by another variable. Another scientific approach states that one variable is determined by many other variables which are in turn affected by the first variable. Specifically, these two approaches can be applied to the surge. The reduction in violence and the increased security in Iraq are generated by the surge which was introduced by President Bush. This is consistent with the first approach. The second scientific approach contend that the reduction in violence and the increase in security have been generated by several variables: the strength of the Iraqi government and army, the increased US forces in Baghdad, the agreement between AL Sadr and the government to stop the fighting temporary, and the slowdown of the Iranian interference in Iraq. Another factor generating less violence in Iraq is the fact that the Iraqi people know that after the surge US will be leaving. That is, US must achieve a victory in order to leave Iraq. The Iraqis have shown restrained in order for US to claim this victory. That is, the surge is not the only factor behind the decline in violence. But should US decide not to leave, the fighting will come back again. Should US decide to leave, the Iraqi resistance will claim victory against US. Not surprisingly, the Maliki’s AL Dawa Party and the Iranian mullahs will declare victory as well against the United States of America. Fundamentally, the problem with the surge is the fact that US must move to Afghanistan, a situation that will overstretch the US forces, a move that intensifies and increases the cost whether in money or in lives. This cost will disintegrate the US economy as well, which is in a deep crisis because of the wars. In other words, the correlation between the surge and the reduction in violence is a deception. It is actually a trap by which the Iraqi and the Afghan “resistance” will become stronger in their fight against US in both countries. In short, the surge will generate a situation where US will lose the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; consequently, both presidential candidates are missing the point. Brian's interview of Obama tonight was excellent. The questions were probing and matched to the issues we Americans face. Obama showed the temperament that is needed in a president. Brian asked some tough questions that gave Obama the chance to demonstrate his agility. Obama answered questions directly, without ducking to irelevant talking points. His answers showed depth of thought and knowledge. Obama was willing to concede a couple of points, that McCain may have had the better judgement on the sub-question of the surge, and that he hasn't yet convinced the majority of Americans that he's a safe choice. I was impressed with the honesty of those admissions.

I'm struck by the contrast of candidate styles from the two interviews tonight. Obama is very much the adult, as shown in his response to the ungentlemanly attacks John McCain launched against his character. Obama didn't sink to McCain's level.

McCain has a childish appearance. He got the interview in the first place by whining. He's been complaining all week about his press coverage,even though he's gotten the better half of it. The coverage of Obama's trip has been as much about McCain's attacks on Obama as it has been about Obama himself. In addition, McCain's campaign events were covered this week even though they had nowhere near the potential draw that Obama's trip had. I wonder if McCain's complaints are motivated by jealousy of Obama.

Kelly's interview was her best so far. Most of the best parts only made the web version. She was willing to ask questions McCain was less comfortable with. McCain's responses often didn't address the questions that were asked. McCain seemed far more concerned with attacking Obama.

Its too bad not everyone is able to see the entire interviews. They illuminate the choices Americans have in the 2008 election. I write complaints most nights here but your coverage of July 24,2008 was great.

I hearing alot about your recent polls and what they revealed, however, I went to work and asked maybe about 20 people and I asked family members and people I ran into,because I am for Obama. I think it is a incredible insane risk to elect McCain. No one in the media is challenging anything he says. CBS even tried to hide some of his errors. He is not an expert in any way in foreign policy and sounds like a bumbling idiot when he tries to argue his way out lies or inaccuracies. He says all veterans support him, yet his voting record shows he doesn't support them. 20% for versus 80% of time Obama has voted in support of veterans having benefits and assistance. He thinks joking about rape is okay. The media unbelievable said it is just McCain being McCain. Phil Gram dereg mortgage and oil. The speculators sending oil up to record levels. Phil married to the Enron executive who was responsible for many regular people losing life savings. Phil saying Americans suffering is only a mental recession. Thousands have lost homes in fires,and in floods and Katrina victims have been poisoned by substandard homes and the FEMA wants immunity and this is who you want as your president. McCain voted against off shore drilling, he voted against the oil going to Americans. Look it up. Competency in IMPERATIVE. He lies constantly. He tried to blame Obama for the oil prices which is so ridiculous I can't even begin to comment. He's saying Obama would rather lose a war and win a campaign. He is so incompetent. He cannot even explain what win or victory is to the New York Times. He rambles. He is scary. Honor his service, but not at the sacrifice of making the United States look like they are being run by the Three Stooges.
Phil Gramm, McCain and Bush. McCain is not an expert at anything, not the economy, which he even lied there and said he never said he wasn't an expert in the economy and he is not an expert overseas. He needs a map and a current at that. He needs to study more and be tested before he opens his mouth. In the meantime, I am voting for the only candidate and that is Barack Obama.

Last time I was in Europe in 2006, I was often in a position of apologizing for U.S. actions and trying to explain that the tide was turning against Bush and his bullies, that America would, in time, return to the ideals for which most of the world admired us...once upon a time. Eight long, long years ago.

Today, as I watched Barack Obama speak forcefully about his hope that America would once again join the community of nations to address climate change, hunger, nuclear proliferation, poverty and
xenophobia, I felt a new hope and pride in my country. Obama candidacy is a sign that our nation is waking up after a national nightmare, and that America is healing itself so that it can help heal the world. And lead it with optimism, not threats.

Thanks for the coverage. BTW, the "surge" did help security in Iraq. But so what. It's the entire war that is a disaster. It's like a surgeon saying "We saved his leg, but the patient died." It's irrelevant to the massive blunder the invasion and occupation reperesents. Ask the 4000 dead soldiers (1000 during the surge itself) and the 45,000 wounded if the surge worked. Ask their families. The surge didn't work for them.

Hello Mr. Williams,
I believe that but for a few commentators the media is very dangerous and harmful. You are among the few that with both dignity and charm though neutral inspire debate. This is why I was very disappointed in the question posed to Senator Obama that insinuated that his refusal to proclaim the surge successful was not an honest assessment. That is not what I expect from one of your stature. There are many reasons that the surge is far from a success. One reason that I have not heard is that despite the reduced casualties our troops are still suffering from hopelessness, fatigue, depression. Since the aim of the surge was the means to the end of our presence in Iraq, and the surge did not achieve that which would allow troop withdrawal, troop frustration that we can not even begin to imagine. The unwillingness of Senator Obama to declare the surge a success is because there is not one measure of success but many of which some are not even considered. Thank you.

You seemed to go way overboard in your promotion of the Obama speech in Berlin.

You even seem to have overestimated the size of the crowd.

And you failed to note the free rock concert that was provided before the appearance of Mr. Obama.

The reality is, we appreciate trying to inform the American Public, but unfortunately the bias of those in the MSM is bizarrely overt.

Today, we see endless slant, intending to help the Democrat Party, while we have to wonder, what if these policies of the Partisan Liberals are mistaken.

For example, how could they transform the Mission in Iraq, which has provided potential Liberty to Millions, into such a negative?

Now as a successful, historic, FREE Nation grows, NBC and other Partisan outlets, seem to be ignoring the incredible positive story of 'hope' growing in the heart of the Middle East.

Mr. Williams could do so much better, and his coverage of the Obama speech seemed far from professional in 'journalistic' standards.

Mr. Williams, I have in the past been an avid NBC News addict. I do not watch ABC or CBS (since the great Cronkite retired). However, recently I have felt a very strong bias toward the Rep. Party. Not so much by you, but by several of your colleagues. But that is what mute buttons are for!
I appreciate your coverage of the Obama trip and feel sorry that many Americans cannot agree with it. I am so very grateful to have Sen. Obama as the Democratic nominee (excuse me "presumptive"). Just the sight of so many German citizens waving US flags was overwhelming! (You don't expect to see flag waving at a rock concert),seriously folks, who can remember when our country has been so highly respected and admired over the last 7+ yrs.? IMHO the speech was very encouraging and can give us all hope for a better world and country.
I found myself asking "how would Tim Russert have viewed this speech and this trip?". Gosh how I miss his honesty and his unbiased reporting!!

I have been a long time viewer but last night's program really disappointed me. I watched the entire broadcast and watched the clock on the wall while you interviewed Senator Obama. The first segment was 6 minutes. Then, I watched the interview with Senator McCain. They aired 2 minutes of that interview along with a reference to see the entire interview to go to the website. I still haven't found the link to it. The newscast goes on to again air 4 more minutes of the Senator Obama interview. That's a total of 10 minutes, one-third of the broadcast.

It seems your network and others as well don't believe in equal and fair reporting for both candidates. I was undecided until I found a few political websites that gave side-by-side comparisions of the candidates views. I'll be watching closely at the Vice Presidential choices. I am VERY concerned about the American media trying to influence the election and I wonder if Senator Obama will win because of the media blitz in his name.

I enjoy your reporting but I am sick of the bias political coverage by all forms of media. Your interview last night was very good but how about if we want to see all of that interview that we head to the website for it. I believe there is other news out there. By the way, why should I care what the German people think of OUR presidental candidates. Are they voting too? Thank you for your time and please some equal time for Senator McCain. Americans should be allowed to choose for themselves.

What truly frustrates me is the constant apologies abd beratng our America by Obama when he gives speeches overseas. Is this really what America wants in their President? We may not be perfect, but we are heads and tails above any other country in the world in terms of our benevolence. Obama suffers from some serious bad attitude, and I'm afraid it's catching on with the majority of our news media. It's no surprise that ratings for the major news outlets and newspapers are tanking. If one looked closely, those in the crowd appeared to be the riff-raff of the city and not the blond, blue-eyed arian types most of us associate with the German people. Germany has become no different than any other country in Europe with problems stemming from assimilation. John McCain saw the same thing I did, but is not in a position to be negative. Barack Obama's reception in Berlin should not have been a surprise to the American public. Our European Allies have been scornned by the Bush Administration as the "Old Europe", when they did not support the invasion of Iraq. The Bush Administration has been similarly dismissive of the UN. Diplomacy and Statemanship have been replaced by unilateralism, which is a stark departure from the policies of every US president since WWII.

Barack Obama's willingness to consult with friends and foes represents the return of the US to a role as a leader in diplomacy. Since the time of Woodrow Wilson, world leaders have sought to create a forum where conflicts could be resolved without wars. The UN was created for that purpose and Barack Obama understands that wisdom. No wonder he has been welcomed throughout the world and here at home.

NBC News is slanted towards Barack Obama. Brian Williams proclaimed that Barack Obama could be the president of Germany and then of Europe. Then, Brian Williams was gushing over Obama when he was interviewing him as they were walking after the speech. Brian looked like one of those girls who gushed over the Beatles in their early footage. I wondered if Brian would start screaming hysterically and then faint because he was so near the "rockstar." NBC News and the other evening news channels are trying to get Obama elected. They find McCain boring and they want Obama.

It is no surprise to me that Europeans love Obama. He wants to bring European-style socialism to the United States where the government takes care of every need. Look at the criticism that conservative French President Sarkozy gets from the French people when he tries modest reforms in the workplace.

Since 2002 I have programmed the NBC evening news into my DVR so I can watch it when I get home (I am a police officer and my shifts constantly change). I will no longer watch NBC News after yesterday's newscast.

If Obama wins the election, is Brian Williams going to be his press secretary?

Bear with me for being off-topic, but an environmental disaster is taking place that needs much more intensive coverage not only because of the difficulty of cleaning it up, but because of its long-term effects.

I mean the oil spill on the Mississippi at New Orleans. I will say that Nightly did headline the spill both last night and Wed., but that was not enough news coverage for such a big disaster. Where's Anne Thompson when we need her awesome environmental reporting?

This oil spill is a bigger disaster than the Exxon Valdez disaster, which received several weeks of steady coverage after it happened. It endangers Louisiana's fragile wetlands and could only add to the growing "dead zone" in the Gulf off Louisiana.

Could NBC be practicing self-censorship by keeping full coverage of this environmental disaster off the air, to make sure the Republicans stay in the White House?

Yesterday, at the end of the interview with Brian Williams and Barack Obama, Andrea Mitchell made it a point to interject the fact that "Obama wanted to visit the wounded soldiers while in Iraq and it was on his schedule to do so, but was told by the Pentagon NOT to go because it would be inappropriate."

Yesterday and again today, it has been reported that it was Obama who decided not go visit the wounded soldiers because he felt it would be inappropriate.

I gasped when Andrea Mitchell made her statement yesterday, blaming the Pentagon and bashing President Bush as usual, in order to defend her candidate, Obama.

This is a very critical statement and if Andrea Mitchell is NOT telling the truth, she should be required make a public apology today and reverse her statement. This matter should be addressed immediately.

I enjoyed the Nightly News as always.
I have one concern that may have already been mentioned. I tried to read the comments before posting but the level of anger in so many of the posts made me feel reading them was wasted time!..Disturbing vitriol.
My concern: It seemed like Kelly O'Donnell's questions to McCain were given to her by McCain's campaign manager. I also wonder if by riding on his bus/plane she has become an advocate for him. Each time I see her interviewed she sounds like she is part of the campaign rather than a journalist. It doesn't change anything but it does seem questionable.

Face it, Obama is immensely popular, both home and abroad. You people really believe 200,000 gathered for a speech just because it came after two no-name bands? What next, the chants of "Obama!" and "Yes we can!" really meant "encore!" in German? These are the same people in denial who thought it was the Decemberists and not Barack who pulled in 50,000 in Oregon. Guess what, I've seen the Decemberists in concert -- there were less than 200 people there.

The non stop images of your awe struck expression and fawning over Sen. Obama, even to your 'me too' suit and tie wardrobe not only reinforces the appearance of presumptuousness on the part of the candidate (he is still a candidate isn't he, or did I fall asleep and miss the election?) but also demeans the honorable profession of journalism. There was a time when the pillars of the estate reported the news rather than orchestrated it.
There is no journalistic credibility to the contrived 'reality show' tour by you and your collegues of the other networks all looking like teenage girls in the front row of a rock concert.
