Peaches was stationed at Bagram Base. She talked about how once you respect them and there way they are very open friendly people. She and some other soldiers formed a campaign for the children by asking family/friends to send things the kids needed. I think your visit and tell Americans about a country and culture most don't know anything about. Yes woman are treated differently but we now only need to look in the mirror to see how far backward the US has gone on it's treatment to woman. In a lot of ways all people are alike. As the US struggled to change old habits are hard to get rid of. We kill unborn babies at clinics - to some that may seem barbaric....
We have moved our corporations factories to other countries along with their pollution.
Maybe better to observe and learn than to judge.
In Afghanistan

find out how the "growers of the dope" peddle their product in the area and from there, how else it's conveyed to the rest of the world, even Alaska

In Afghanistan

Thank you to the NBC Nightly News team for covering the floods in Iowa during your broadcast tonight. It's an emotional situation here, and it helps to know that others are sympathizing.

But the most important thing you do for us is to allow us the perspective of outsiders--people who see the larger picture rather than the personal damage and drama--and to be remind us that there are other things going on in the world worth our attention too.

In Afghanistan

Food? They served food on the plane? Wow. How long will it take them to catch up with the airlines in America and take away the food and charge for the drinks?

The crew was friendly? And efficient? What a concept. Maybe the airline isn't that backwards compared to us.

Stay safe.

In Afghanistan

Thank you for your report on girls attending school in Afghanistan - but I was disappointed to not hear any mention of Greg Mortenson and his work and influence on this subject in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Please consider including that in your story!

In Afghanistan

Please do a story of Bagram Air Base (a former Soviet Base) north of Kabul. The first report from the Pentagon about the US airstrikes showed how the "fog of war" can be a very complicated thing. It is unfortunate that people are caught in the middle of a conflict and through a proper investigation I'm sure it will be found what happened. The piece by Mr.Fletcher about girls finally able to attend school shows much progress and it is inspiring to see their joy at now being able to learn and grow in their lives. Even though out of 6 million only 2 1/2 million attend the schools it is wonderful to see. I am very impressed the girl featured in the report is first in her class and her brother is fifth in his class. I really hope she gets the chance to become a journalist. If she learns from you people at NBC she will learn from the BEST! The report about the father who has ten children and is having difficulty supporting them was troubling. It is sad that innocent families are driven out of their homes and forced to live in camps. Now the food crisis within the region is another problem they face. Someday I hope these people can live free of the Taliban and can reside in peace. A very sad, difficult and complicated situation. Than you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. I look forward to another from the region tomorrow evening. Stay Safe Mr.Williams. Peace to you and to all!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
XOXO

In Afghanistan

Me and my husband are retired military, I served with the 1st Cav Div in Iraq and he served with the 4th Inf. Shouldn't your newscast have been about McCain's demographic troubles?

Your report also singled out white suburban females as a group Obama is having trouble with. He's down 44/38. That's only six points. Your report characterized the Obama's lead in the overall poll of all voters, six points, as a "very tight race." You characterized the six point lead among the suburban white women group that only makes up 10% of the electorate as a "problem" for Obama. What's more, the subgroup still has 18% undecided for Obama to work with.

There are two obvious conclusions. From those numbers, your report shows NBC is still openly supporting McCain and failing its responsibility to provide fair and balanced coverage. And, NBC feels the votes of establishment white folks matter more than anybody else's, particularly when those voters are male.

Another example of your bias showed up with your suggestion that voters are drifting toward McCain's position on Iraq. The poll found that 49% wanted the troops out in 2009, while 45% want the troops to remain until Iraq is stable. Neither one is John McCain's position. McCain wants troops in Iraq permanently, like we have them in South Korea. The 45% who want the troops out when Iraq is stable still want them out, not left there permanently. What your poll actually shows is that 94% of Americans disagree with John McCain's position on Iraq.

A better comparison was done by CBS, who asked how many Americans would like troops to remain in Iraq more than two years. Only 30% agreed. That's still just two years, so the number that would want troops in Iraq indefinitely would be much smaller. Hardly anybody agrees with McCain and your poll was not, as you claimed, evidence that the public is drifting toward his position. It more likely shows that more Americans now feel Iraq will be stable enough to withdraw troops from in the near future.

Since Brian is off in Afghanistan and this kind of campaigning for McCain is still going on, its obvious that Brian isn't to blame for the bias.

Thank you for running my comments on your blog. I believe they provide a token of balance. I deeply admire Brian for braving a trip to Afghanistan, and will say a prayer for him tonight.

In Afghanistan

Wow--a "Brian field-trip"--my "half-in-jest" way of complimenting Brian's excursions. Kucinich had the courage and acknowledged his responsibility to bring impeachment proceedings against the Bush administration.

I am also thankful that NBC News and all mainstream media has shown their true colors as an apologist shills for this same administration by burying this important story.

I hereby charge NBC News with censorship to conceal the truth.

TOO Bad that News reporting media DO NOT have to tell the truth. Yes, it's true! the "news" we see on tv does NOT have to be truthful! From (http://www.relfe.com/media_can_legally_lie.html)

"In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States."

NBC News and all other FCC regulated media do not have to report the truth and can even legally falsify what they call the news... it's really too bad the 'news' print media cannot step up to the challange.

And the funny, yet sad fact is that we pay to be lied to by being force fed ads and the cable fees... hey we better get used to it... it's a great business model!

Regards,
John Button

In Afghanistan

The story on the girls schools brought back a lot of beautiful, heartbreaking memories. I'm a retired Air Force officer as well as a retired reporter for the daily newspaper in Charleston, S.C. When you check in with the U.S. military, you might want to ask how old their airplanes are. For example, any KC-135 tankers you might see are all 40+ years old. If you see a C-5 cargo jet, it will have to be at least 20+ years old. They probably get a lot better maintenance than your aging Boeing 727, but they're still very old.

In Afghanistan

Please try to keep some independence from your handlers. You have more power than you think - they (and the public) will still talk with you if you are critical - they need you as much as you need them. The Afgans dying at the hands of America need you most of all. How many serial killers did you run into over there? I know these are stupid questions. People in America rant and rave about their rights. We have a "justice" system setup for the criminals in a lot of cases. We have freedom of speech, which allows anything and everything to be said or done on TV or any public gatherings, without any thoughts as to what effect it will have on the children. I understand why some countries don't agree or like Americans. They have never been here so the only thing they have to judge us by is what is shown to them on TV and via the internet. My grandmother once said, "Progress always comes with a price." I would say the price is getting higher every day. Before to long we will need a plastic surgeon to reattach our noses to our faces.
Don't get me wrong, I love this country because of the "right" to worship how I please. I do not believe that most Americans are rude, crude and socially unacceptable. Those type of people just get more attention for the shock and awe factor.
Terry Coulter, Bryant, AR (Sent Wednesday, June 18, 2008 12:18 PM)
I was sure you would, I beleived in you not to play favorites.
