ABOUT THIS BLOG

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Our new video experience

Posted: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 3:40 PM by Daily Nightly Editor

The new Nightly News Web site makes every video crisper than it's ever been. But if you're not seeing the videos -- you may need to download the latest Adobe Flash player. Click here or http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ for more on how to do that.

Update -- the Netcast is available on this site. (Click on "Previously in the menu bar to the left). For more on that, click here.

Is the netcast still available?
Where is the WEBCAST!! I just want to watch what everyone else watches on TV!! I am overseas and want to see the newscast like I was able to on Friday.  Where is the link!!!
Agreed, where is the webcast? Thats the reason i watch on the net, to keep myself connected to America even though i live in Germany now. Just one link will be fine thank you.
Please tell me where to find the webcast
I work and live in Germany and would very much like to keep on watching the regular webcast which is my link to the news in the US. If there is a link, please help me find it. If not, I would really appreciate if you could reconsider your decision of taking it off the net.

Best regards,

Daniel Daugherty
We agree - clicking on each individual story is too much work for the return.
I have adobe 9 .. and it works on CNN, CBS, ABC .. but not here. I get NOTHING on your site. Nada. Yes java scripting is enabled. Can you please at least give us a choice about which media player to use?  Because as it is now, I cannot watch any video on MSNBC at all. Practically speaking, that means I'm going to the sites of the other networks. I'd much prefer to stay here.....

Please go back to the old site, this one does not even have a webcast
How do we turn the audio OFF??  I can hear it even if I go to another web site.  Help!
I am Canadian living in Hong Kong now.  I get my world news every night through your webcast.  Last night, I thought I was never going to watch to NBC Nightly News in whole again.  I tried again today.  I was relieved that after following your clear instructions, I can still stay connected to the rest of the world.
I agree. I live in Europe and want to watch the whole NBC News with Brian Williams, not clips made just for the Net.
Why can't we watch Nightly News from  the weekend?
Viewers are asking for the webcast link and the answer is...???
We are so disappointed in the new site too. We watch the netcast every night and are now looking for another site to bring us our news.
Congratulations on a colossal failure. This site will note load ANY video in Win2K, XP, OR Vista. The various items just SIT there, no playing nothing. Latest Flash is installed, reinstalled, re-re-installed. You have managed to completely DESTROY what used to be a decent news site.
Firefox needs to be supported.
How do I turn on the closed captioning for the web video content?  I need it to understand the words.
Again, looking for the webcast. I like the new site. it's professional and spiffy, but I'd really like to be able to watch the news that everyone else sees first, then click on more videos when I have time. The extra videos will be really useful to me, especially during the election season.
Who is the bonehead in charge of this 'new feature' and the one who didn't include a simple link to it? What a terrible oversight and SO frustrating. There needs to be a simple and easily-found link somewhere at msnbc.com just to watch the Brian Williams Newscast. No more scavenger hunts, please. Come one, a little more user-friendly, please!
No video on your site.
Selecting a subject causes a jump to the next subject listed instead of the one selected.
None of the options shown on the left hand side of the main screen can be activated.
Needs a lot more work until ready for prime time.
Similar to the post above, I have everything installed correctly, but the new player only plays about one of every 5 stories that I try.  I enjoy watching the webcast as I get ready for work each morning, but will have to look elsewhere if this doesn't improve.
Please just stream the entire newscast!  Msnbc as well...
I would prefer if your organizing of news items was related to the news - like, US News, International, Politics.  The groupings and interface don't help me locate current (released today) news items of interest to me.

Webcast?  There used to be a webcast?  I dont' own a TV - I would like to see the webcast the folks from Germany mentioned.
How does one feedback to MSNBC re: their caucaus coverage?
Guys, it seems like you change your homepage every other week and I havta keep hunting for where the "netcast" is. Someone have too much time on their hands over there? I'd hate to resort to YouTube or something just to find it. Btw, how come no weekend nightly news (or holiday ones even) are available on the netcast?
Much too heavy, even on a well equipped PC. Bad performance under Firefox--a safer browser than IE. Too much "stuff" and not enough substance--I do like to read to exercise my mind.

Video should be an option and not be forced on you when you go to the site. Since the site is too heavy with "stuff," if I surf to another site or continue to listen to music, the video and sound plays when its ready, not when I am ready. Also, with the start up of video like that, I have to take the site off my lunchtime round of news--I can't have video playing in the office.

Gee... did you run this site though a human factors summary or did you let the "inmates run the asylum" and try to do "something neat."
Brian,
You have reported on the families of Iraq war casualties several times.  Have you considered a report on the children of WWII and Korean war casualties?  My father (John William Lausberg) was a bombardier during WWII and the Korean war and was shot down over Korea.  My family had many other tragedies during the ensuing years (see Long Island, NY papers of the early fifties for Lausberg) but my brother (s school math teacher, retired) and myself (a PhD chemist, retired) seem to have been successful.
This new site is a waste.  I can't find the daily netcast.  The audio is horrible.  Some background music that I can't turn off.  Please test and fix your site before hand.  Even some user-group review would have helped.
I would prefer the previous version. This one is nothing but a headache. Please return it to your patrons before you lose them to another network.
I have loaded Adobe 9 and there are still major bugs in your site programming. Can you fix the site so that the stories actually play in a sequence and not stop after each story? I too would also like to view the netcast if I don't have time to do anything else at the moment.
Ditto to the other comments. I can't find the webcast!
It's hit or miss for me. Sometimes I will be able to view a video, but usually not. I have Adobe 9, java scripting, etc etc.
Please go back to the old way. The old saying if it's not broke don't fix it. I really enjoy Brian and NCB and on the web, however if I have to go through changes to view the video I will have to go to another net work.
Does this work for everybody in IE?

The video player comes up for me with no problem in Firefox, but it's not loading in IE.
Is the webcast gone or just hidden?
Thanks for adding weekend broadcasts to your Web offering. One question, though. Saturday's Webcast skips news stories and goes right to In Deph segment. Is that a glitch? Or must I do something to see complete 30-minute show? Right now I'm just letting the player start when I reach your home page.
WHAT "Previously in the menu bar to the left)?
I agree with everyone else!  Please go back to the normal webcast, one link (that can be found easily) for each day of the week.
Hello -
I wrote about a week ago and asked if you would please clear the "Press ESC to Exit Full Screen Message" after it sits there for a second or two.  It is still there, annoying as ever.  Would you please clear it?  Thank you
January 14th Newscast + The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is being obscured by the politicans and everyone who is trying to clarify what they are trying to say about it.

As a woman who was the first radio newsreporter in a major city in the deep south, I understand what Senator Hillary Rodam Clinton means about Dr. Martin Luther King paving the way for African Americans and females to make our way in our society.

I was not treated equally by male news editors and news reporters in the early 1970's.  When I took jobs after I earned my degree, the news editors did not see me as a reporter with 10 years experience as a newsreporter. They saw me as a white woman working in a good ol' boy's world.

Senator Clinton is not only facing opposition accross party lines and racial lines, she is also facing opposition from the same women who got in my face and told me I had no right to have the same rights in a court of law as a man does...during the Equal Rights Law Era.

I agree with everyone else here ... the old site was better, the video quality was better and I could just simple watch the newcast -- front to back -- without spending so much time trying to find ... well everything.  Please, dump the hype and the 'Flash' and go back to functional ... Please!
When are you going to get rid of that annoying "Press ESC to exit Full Screen" message that sits there during the entire broadcast? This is the third time I've written this message!
The only thing that runs smoothly here are the darn ads!  The news videos are jumpy like hell.  This does not depend on my network speed, because the gray pre-load bar runs way ahead of the green playtime bar.  What's up?  Why did they not use windows media format?
You've still screwed up the netcast and your instructions on how to get there.  There is no menubar on the left.

JDT
I agree.  Want a webcast, incl weekends.  Cut down on gimicky flash and video, and always have text option.
I used to enjoy the netcasts every night here at my job, but have not seen one since your new website format. Can't find how or where to bring it up. What a bummer. Very disappointed.
OK! What is the deal with this player?  Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time it stops mid-sentence.  It keeps pausing and freezing, then resumes...I know it is the broadcast because the COMMERCIALS work just FINE!  PLEASE, PLEASE fix this...it is very annoying!
I had come to rely on your nightly news to keep informed.  I thought it was fabulous that you provided this excellent service.
  Please bring back the newscast.
For those who can't get the video to play check your security software. Mine (kaspersky) has something called anti-banner. This prevented a banner displaying which therefore prevented the ad, then the video from playing. Good luck!
