Snail mail address for Santa

If you're trying to send a Christmas wish-list to Santa, address letters to "Santa, North Pole." He'll answer as many as possible -- no guarantees (he's busy this time of year).

And the U.S. Postal Service offers these instructions for getting a reply letter with a North Pole Postmark:

Parents and guardians can write a personalized letter to a child and sign it from Santa. Place this letter into an envelope addressed to the child with the return address from SANTA, NORTH POLE. Please make sure First-Class postage is affixed to the envelope. Place that envelope into a larger envelope, with appropriate postage, and address the larger envelope as indicated below.

The letters from Santa need to be received in Anchorage before December 15, 2009.

When I first saw this,the reason why, I understood. I'm glad that someone saw the importance of something like this and saw a way to fix this. I'm 45 yrs old and remember our Son sending a letter to Santa. The look on his face when he recieved a letter from "Santa" was awesome.Thanks to your reporting and the powers to be that have saw a way to maintain something that I remember as a child.

You can also send letters to Santa via his Canadian address. I did it when I was a kid and now my children do it too. Don't even need to include a self addressed envelope but will still get a letter back from him. Here's the address:

My Friend Jalin is 4 and His Brother Kevin is 8 and they work before and after school here in Brockton Ma.. I stop by and see them every Morning at 7am where we clean the front of The Wash Hour Laundry on Pleasant St. in Brockton Ma. While we are cleaning usually we have birds comming by for Breakfast some Chicky's ,starlings, Crows and especially Sea Gulls! When we finish we alway's feed them some Bread! We have been working Now for 2 years before school! Jalin wanted Me To Tell Santa not to Forget The Peanut Butter, Jelly and Bread for The Birds becouse they Love it so Much!1 Sea Gull can Eat a Whole sandwich if it were broken in 4 piece's! LOL! The Boy's wanted a Pet and Have a Huge population of Birds as Friends every Day come By and See Them! They wanted Santa to Have a Merry Christmas Too! They only wanted a few Toy's this Year mainly the Hand held computer games and of Course the TV and Online Versions! The New Electric Motor Cycle! They Love thier friends and Hope you can Remember them Too! Thier not my children but are Great Guy's like so Many of those true Beleaving Young Generation who if you could take a Moment and See through thier Eye's How special it is to have friends! 4 is an age that you could only remember but to Jalin it is Now! I assume children aren't watching. Considering all the arguments in regards to the environment, this is just an unnecessary addition to the problem. I take it no one's really worried and this is just a necessary evil of mythic proportions.

However, I am hopeful that some had the ability to foresee reactions such as mine.

I have some questions:

Is there an offset for this perk? I feel that if there are going to be many people with their heads in the dirt willing to fill the air with more hydrocarbons while their feet are planted firmly on the ground, said party may look a bit less like their heads are planted somewhere else.

Why not set up an e-mail address? Our children are more savvy than this. I'm sure they know more about an e-mail than its physical predecessor -and it's less of a footprint.

Christmas still has that Norman Rockwell feel to it for many, I understand that. I love holiday lighting! Just got some LEDs!

Nostalgia's a pleasant daydream, but let's not fall asleep at the wheel.

Problem was my 10 year old son watched this news broadcast and was heartbroken because how the story was told, he understood that Santa did not exist. Save these stories for the 11pm news so the believers don't get their hearts torn apart.
