Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor

At one point last night--at several points, actually--I turned to my wife and asked, "What, exactly, are we doing here? Can you believe where we are?" I suppose there are people who are blasé about State Dinners, but we are not among them. I was honored to attend. It was a warm and glittery evening in a beautiful place...with better-than-average people! It was a thrill to see everyone--the boldface names, obviously--but more importantly: the members of the military stationed throughout the dinner, members of the uniformed and protection divisions of the Secret Service, and the outstanding White House servers and ushers--many of the great people I've come know over the years...they make the place go, and it was great to see all of them. Needless to say, it was wonderful to see the President and First Lady and to greet their distinguished honored guests from India. It's not something you ever get used to...nor is there a way to describe how strange it was just now--while typing this--to look up and see my wife and me on cable, in a clip from the arrival last night.

Back to life as usual--there are groceries to buy,
houseguests who arrived while I was at work today, the annual family football game on Saturday (which means I'll be walking funny for 3-5 days next week) and football (and the parade, of course) on TV. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, I hope you spend it with your family--and I hope you grab a moment to think of all those serving this country in uniform and their families.

We hope you can join us tonight.

I'd like to be on the gardening staff,do they offer health ins?? and as a former banquet waitress in Miami Beach, I'd rather serve em. I got paid well, fed well, and saw the same awesome entertainers, Liverache, Frank Sinatra.. God, I loved that job. Were thier any Gringas serving the meal at the State Dinner?
Brian it was great to see you and your wife this at last night's state dinner! I hope you both had a memorable time and I wish you and your family and the NBC/MSNBC family a happy, healthy Thanksging (and try not to screw up your body too much during the football game Saturday---Lester Holt works too hard as it is).
Hi Brian I watched the President's dinner last night and you know out here in California it's 3 hour difference. It was wonderful that the President honored his Guest by allowing him to feel so much at home. Now Obama is a kid at heart with the turkey's today while scaring his daughter. What an interesting man we have a President. Young enough to enjoy and join in with kids but wise and educated enought to deal with World and US problems.

We've started cooking for the people we will serve tomorrow so this will be a short posting.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND BLESSING TO ALL THE REGULARS ON THIS BLOG AND TO ALL OF THE NBC STAFF.  SHARE YOUR BLESSING WITH OTHERS THE REWARD IS BEYOND WHAT YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE.
Mr. Williams;

You and your show have lost all credibility with me. You had a story about how Pres. Obama is going to Copenhagen to attend a global warming summit. Seems to me if NBC wants to be considered a fair and balanced news outlet then you would have followed that story with one regarding the stolen/leaked e-mails  from University of East Anglia, UK. That story is all the buzz on the internet and other news outlets (Yes, I mean Fox). It seems this story is quite relevant since we the commoner are about to be thrown to the wolves once again and taxed to the hilt to pay to stop supposed global warming with the cap and trade bill working its way through congress. I am now officially done with watching NBC Nightly News.
Hi Brian,

It's been a busy week, but I've been able to watch you here and there. So you had somewhere special to go last night? I can't imagine how beautiful it was! And Oh Lord, the dress! Just when you think the Pres. (who looked sharp), and Michelle can't get any classier, they prove us wrong. They're real too, accessible, and so much more. As for the decade, I think they're the best thing that ever happened to this country. We have Bush and Cheney to thank for the decade from Hell. Time Magazine was spot on with that. In Making a Difference the moms are doing outstanding work in Ky. It's amazing what one person can do, then another and so on...

Brian, thank you so much for being the best in the business and yet being so ginuine. I'll see you Fri. evening. I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday.

Soooo Brian, when are you going to finally get around to mentioning Climategate? You reported on Obama's upcoming visit to Copenhagen but as yet the biggest scientific scandal in history has yet to be reported by NBC News. The story is all over the web but you WON'T find it at NBC News.
Good evening, Brian! Happy Thanksgiving eve to you and all of your colleagues!

I was happy to hear that you  and your beautiful wife were invited to attend President and Mrs. Obama's first State Dinner. I wondered if you wre seeing the replay of all of the guests arriving at the White House. You and Mrs. Williams looked very lovely! What a very special night that must have been.

Thank you for the wonderful broadcast tonight. A very interesting topic on Time magazine's front page story. If you think of all the awful things that have happened in the last 10 years, it's hard to argue with the statement. But in those 10 years, as always, there's always tremendous good hiding in the tremendously bad. I look forward to getting that issue of Time once my Papa's done reading it.

I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with your family. I hope Jim Maceda's reporting from Kabul last night meant that Richard Engel is safe at home with his family for Thanksgiving. Wishing him and all of his crew stay safe always. I'm so very grateful for all of his work, and all of the work he's done over the so many years he's been in the middle east.

Wishing that our family had an annual family football game, I hope you don't come back too sore next week! Good luck with it! I'll be watching the Hokies game against the Caveliers Saturday – it would only be appropriate that the VT Hokies (with their turkey/hokie mascot) win this Thanksgiving weekend!

And of course, as always, our family will be thinking and praying for the United States military and their families who wont be seeing them this holiday season. All of them being what I'm most thankful for, and what this Thanksgiving means to me, especially on this year. My family is always what I am so thankful for, but it's the families of our service men and women that we should all be thanking this Thanksgiving.

Thank you for your reporting this year! Lots of love to you and your colleague Richard Engel, and warm wishes to you both on a very  safe and happy Thanksgiving. Thanks to all of your colleagues for their great work.

Take care, and we'll see you on Friday.
-Cary

P.S. Wishing all of the wonderful Nightly News viewers a safe and happy holiday! Lots of love to my fellow Nightly viewers, Lisa McNeil, Laurel, and Lori.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, I didn't get to see your broadcast tonight live so I watched the reports on the web. Another fine broadcast this evening. I will say you and Mrs.Williams looked fantastic at the White House State Dinner last evening! It sounds like you had a wonderful time! I am very happy you were invited and it is such a honor for you!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Savannah Guthrie about President Obama's decision concerning the War in Afghanistan and the US troop levels. The speech by President Obama next Tuesday will be vitally important to laying out a strategy as to what is going to happen with the mission of the US Troops. Hopefully, someday the US troops will be able to come home.
The report from Mr.Bazell about swine flu and the outbreak amidst college campuses is alarming. It is awful so many young people have become ill because if this virus. One hopes the virus has hit it's peak and will start to diminish. Time will tell.

Nice to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon being blown up for the big day tomorrow! I always love watching the parade!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with your family! My thoughts go out to all the military and their families! God Bless Them! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are home with your family!
XOXO
The First Ladies dress should have been American Made
Enough said
Wow...what a honor!  I'm sure you and your wife will remember and talk about this for a long time.  I remember when I was fortunate enough to know someone who was able to give me and my son - for his 18th birthday - a tour of the White House.  We were thrilled!  I can only imagine how it felt seeing it decorated so lavishly and filled with so many distinguished people.  Amazing...thanks so much for sharing your experience with us.  We do have a lot to be thankful for in this great country of ours.
Dear Brian, I watch you every night and value your opinions.  However, I heard your account of the event at the White House last night and I have several questions.  You saw a car being turned away from the entrance gate of the White House.  Did that not set off an alarm in your head.  You saw these people get out, followed by a camera, makeup people etc.  Who did you tell?  The public has been asked over and over since Sept. 11 to report any suspicious packages, people, etc.  Were these people not suspicious?  With all the people at the party, including the mayor of NYC who is constantly asking the public to be aware of suspicious behavior, did not one person go to a secret service person to alert them?  We all need to be vigilant when it comes to national security. We are fortunate that these people were only publicity seekers and did not have another agenda.
I'm glad you remind people that though your income and fortune maybe better than many, you are still a human being who has needs like all of us.  I, for one, was very pleased that you received the journalist award.
Your news is not biased toward anything but goodness and that makes your professional behavior rare and a blessing for us all.   May God protect you and your loved ones always.
Does anyone else see how disrespectful this party crashing incident is to the office of the President and the United States?  This is another gross attempt to "celebrate" Hollywood style "white trash".   And then everyone asks why are children are so disrepectful and have a "don't care" attitude.   Stop glorifying these acts.  This couple is an embarrassment.
Thanks for a nice read, Mr. Williams. And Happy Thanksgiving.
I keep hearing the same statement, from the Secret Service, concerning the breach of security at Tuesday night's state dinner: "The President was never in any danger." I guess he wasn't, but more because of luck than diligence. I assume there were steak knives and perhaps even carving knives inside that tent, past the metal detectors. And the personal security detail certainly didn't prevent the lady in red from snuggling with our Vice President. I found the stunt amusing, even funny, but in reality it was a very serious gaffe on the part of the Secret Service.
At age 80 my wife and I have run out of invitations for Thanksgiving dinner, so we went to our favorite restaurant and hugged our wait people. It is sad to outlive family, but such is the case for many of us elders, so we adjust accordingly.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
Mr. Williams, how come you did not report the couple crashers when you thought they were in the vehicle that had been turned away just as a precautionary measure.
With millions of American dress makers out of work out of work. Why would Mrs Obama wear a dress made in India? It's a slap in the face. I'm certain that an american dress maker would have produced a dress equal to or better than the one that was selected. I'm wondering if the meal was imported also.
WITH BETTER-THAN-AVERAGE-PEOPLE?!?!?!?!?!?

Brian...
With that statement you reveal what is wrong with journalism today.

You and your colleagues are so preoccupied with trying to live like the "better-than-average-people" that you'll do and say anything to ingratiate yourselves.
Fewer and fewer Americans are buying the image of yourself that you attempt to put forth...."just a humble American who delivers every bit of news we need".
What you choose to report and how you report is is sadly lacking.
Mr Williams, Twice this week on the NBC Nightly News you referred to the North Michigan Avenue shopping area as the "Miracle Mile." There are no miracles here, but some would say this mile long strip of shopping is magnificent. The area you are referring to when your local correspondent reports from is the Magnificent Mile, or as we say locally, the Mag Mile.
Your blog and your report on The Nightly News on the Salahis and the Secret Service embarrass you and NBC.  Obviously, security wasn't nearly as airtight as your report stated!

You sound like a star-struck teenager invited to a must-attend party rather than a veteran newsperson.

I am sure you and your wife were honored to be there, but please don't forget that you weren't there becuase you are some random guy from New Jersey, but because NBC News has bestowed upon you the privilege of being our proxy.  Period.

So pinch yourself if you like, but you're a newsperson not a part of the story.  You should have been all over the party crasher story, not gushing about the great honor of being there.  And telling us all how great security was when -- now, even the Secret Service you gushed about admits that it blew it.  You gushed before you did what a journalist must always do -- make sure that you have the facts!

You -- and this also applies to many of the network news "stars" of today -- are so busy rubbing elbows with pols and celebs that you more often than you should allow become too "friendly" with those that you cover.  And you forget -- all too often -- that were it not for the fact that you are there as our proxy -- that like us you'd undoubtedly be at home watching it on television.
Brian, while you're schmoozing with the President, and while Chris Matthew's leg tingles with every mention of Obama's name, serious and objective news is reported every day on the one-and-only fair-and-balanced cable network.  Dare I say their name?  The Obama love-fest continues on GE's NBC! ;oP
hey nice to see you at the state dinner do you were the only reporter that was there??
BRAIN WILLIAMS---- ABOUT THE IRAQ AND AFGAN WARS ,THERE IS A GROUP OF """ FORGOTTEN HERO'S'' THERE.
THEY ARE THE AIR FORCE'S REDHORSE HEAVY CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER'S IF IT WERE NOT FOR THEM THE OTHER TROOPS WOULDN'T HAVE PLACES TO FLY FROM, SLEEP, EAT, PRAY,
REPAIR VEHICLES,ETC,ETC YOU REPORTER'S SHOULD BRING TO LIGHT WHAT THESE MEN AND WOMEN DO IN A WAR ZONE.
VIRTUALLY EVERY BASE THERE HAD TO BE RECONSTRUCTED FROM SCRATCH AND  A LOT OF TIME, THE 30,000 TROOPS WILL HAVE TO HAVE PLACES TO SLEEP , EAT, WORK AND IT WILL BE REDHORSE'S JOB TO CONSTRUCT THESE PLACE'S AND WILL TAKE SEVERAL MONTH'S NEWS REPORTERS' SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF ALL THIS AND SHOW APPRECIATION TO REDHORSE.  I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS A MEMBER OF THE VERY FIRST REDHORSE SQUADRON SENT TO VIETNAM IN 1966 WE CONSTRUCTED AN OPERATIONAL BASE FROM THE GROUND UP IN JUST SEVEN MONTHS. THE NUMBERED SQUADRON DEPARTED U.S. JANUARY OF 1966 AND NEVER BEEN DEACTIVATED AND NEVER RETURNED TO THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES. REDHORSE IS 44 YEARS OF AGE AS OF 15 OCTOBER 2009
