The end of an era

Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor

I was in Buffalo last night for the last concert of the current two-year-long tour of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.  Indeed, last night's over-the-top show, almost 3-and-a-half hours long, was a singular experience, even for veterans of this band and this tour. Thoughts of Tim and his dad, Big Russ, were heavy in the air, and Luke Russert was there with us in the audience. I don't have much voice left, and my entire body hurts: both positive signs that we had a great time in Buffalo.

Now to the sad news over the weekend: we lost another Medal of Honor recipient. Do me a favor and read the story of Alejandro Ruiz and his extraordinary life and service to this country.

We're back for another week.  We hope, knowing families are gathering for Thanksgiving week, that you can still join us as much as possible this week. We make for great after-meal viewing, and Nightly News contains no Tryptophan!

We hope you can join us tonight.

Brian - So many of us envy you that trip to Buffalo...
Joan
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another fine broadcast this evening. I am very happy you enjoyed the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert last evening! Great to know you had such a wonderful time. And Luke Russert too!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Yang about the holiday shopping season with retailers starting early many bargains can be found before "Black Friday". People are spending less due to the economy and will certainly look for big sales on all sorts of items. It was interesting to see stores having "dress rehearsals" for "Black Friday" in the hopes of huge crowds and high profits. One can find merchandise, but one needs ot be smart at shopping while taking advantage of good sales.

The report by Savannah Guthrie concerning the vote on healthcare over the weekend to continue to debate showed how there is much more work to be done. Much convincing between members of parties to get the votes to pass the bill and one hopes they will reach a decision soon.
Heatbreaking to learn of 4 more US soldeirs killed in Afghanistan with one even today. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families.
One hopes President Obama will have a decision next week on US troop levels with a time for withdrawal.

Sad to learn of the passing of Alejandro Ruiz a PFC First Class US Army, Medal of Honor Recipient at the age of 85yrs old.
He gave great service to our country.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Lewis from Richmond,California about the Chef who now works at the Rescue Mission in Richmond,California feeding the homeless was very inspirational. He is not only helping the homeless, but the people in his crew are having their lives changed for hte better because of him. Giving repect to those who come to the mission and a great meal to provide some hope. He is giving so much to so many with meaningfulness, heart and soul. A very nice piece!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. I think your line about "Nightly News contains no Tryptophan!" is great! I would never fall asleep during your broadcast! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra,Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO

Brian,
Thank you for letting us share in your feelings of Bruce and the band.  Although we couldn't make the last show of this tour, we were there in spirit.  Somehow, we feel we should be at every last show, just in case it is the end.  Bruce's music is, for many of us, the soundtrack of our lives.  When you write about him and his music, we understand exactly how you feel!  We cannot imagine anyone else's music meaning so much to so many of us.   Hopefully well all be on this ride again in another year or two (after all, we need some time to recover)...until then, peace.
'End of an Era'?  Do you really believe Buffalo was the last E Street show....ever?? Say it ain't so :(
Hi Brian!  So glad tht you and Luke made it to Buffalo for the show.  I was shut out of tickets but can't complain as I saw Bruce and the band 5 times this tour.  Let's just hope that they don't stay away from touring for too long!
If the Bishop sent Patrick Kennedy a letter...that can be reported as a fact.

If the Bishop says that a tenet of the Catholic Church is that abortion is the killing of a baby...that can be reported as a fact.

NBC NEWS is all about the facts, right Brian?

If a journalist says that the Bishop is crossing the line...THAT IS NOT NEWS...THAT IS BIASED OPINION!!!!

PLEASE STOP PRESENTING BIAS OPINION AS NEWS BRIAN!!!!

Mr. Williams:  So glad you had a great time at the Springsteen show  -- they can rock.  Your enthusiasm and passion for life are apparent in your broadcast.  Hope you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving.  In a sense, Thanksgiving is the holiest of holidays in its universality.  We can all give thoughts to the one great God for our blessings.

On another note, I believe the Democrats would be better off not passing healthcare reform if they cannot include a public option.
It is amazing how influential the News is...
The video web of “Flooding in the UK” got the attention of my pals.
Monday, we drove to Miami Intl. airport and a dear friend (somehow) forgot her passport.
We all believe – sabotage.
Missed our flight to Europe.  I am totally not happy.

Last night News:
The Republican Senators lack a conscience.
Fact - Americans, daily, suffer, due to not having Health Care.
Fact – Yearly, more Americans file bankruptcy due to Health Care costs.
Fact –  This morning, on a local South Florida radio station, it was revealed, poor, uninsured children lack basic oral health care.  This neglect leads to unnecessary tooth decay and disease.  Such a sad story.
Back to the Republicans:  As Senators, they are provided the best health care.  Maybe this is the explanation for their lack of concern.

Brian, GREAT suit.  Awesome.
As always, hats off to The Boss.
My fave of Bruce is “The Streets of Philadelphia”.
Touching.
Agony.

Brian you spoke of the lost this Thanksgiving of 4 soldiers but each Thanksgiving in the pass we've lost many many more as it was said the American peoople didn't want to hear about all the deaths. Freedom of the press was closed for 8 years and I'm glad we can now openly face the truth and facts our soldiers are dying.

The World news about Tony Blair is reported all over but nothing on the US media.  The UK already released the memo's as to how Blair lied and worked with the US on the illegal invasion of Iraq.  The truth will come out and Blair will stand trial for his crimes. But the biggest problem will be what will the US do and then will the United Nation bring War Crime charges against the US/UK. Israel is planning their pre emptive attack and using the Bush/Blair Plan to do it.

Notice how angry the GOP is for Attorney General Holder having the terrorist trial in New York. To bad reporters forgot the reason. Al Queada was not a Military Army there for the Bush Administration said they did not have to go by the Geneva Rules. Now if Holder lable them a Military Army, the UN would have to step in. Fear of how we tortured Mohammand and his family might be the biggest shock. Yes the Foreign Media reported the information but Americans were shield from the horror that the US tortured woman/children to get information. We must deal with the crimes of our pass before we can move forward and correct this mistakes.

Now I must say I don't blame NBC for not reporting the tale of Senator Ensign. The actions and sin of this guy is beyond belief. Even listening as anther Senator uses God while trying to cover up the fact Ensign is haveing an affair with his employee and her husband works for Ensign too. This is more like SODOM AND GOMORRAH.

As the GOP do their best to get Tim Geithner to resign I wondered by no reported spoke up about the fact that Geithner was never in the meetings with Hank Paulson who made the decisions to give away the money to AIG and others. Now while reading possible reasons it's clear the new regulations Geithner is looking to apply would stop this fraud/corruption from happening again to the US taxpayers. Law Makers have gotten use to the bribes, kick backs and pay offs by the Banks and Big Business.

Have a great evening all
Just a week or so ago Springsteen yelled out "Hello Detroit Ohio.

What? What? What?

Are you sure he knew he was playing Buffalo and not Cleveland? And when is Detroit in Ohio?

we lost another great American yesterday.  Rest in peace PFC Ruiz.  Thank you for your service.  My thoughts are with your family tonight.
Tim is greatly missed, and I'm glad you were able to be in Buffalo with Luke for the concert.

Since Lester was at the news desk tonight, I'm wondering if you are you at the White House...
