I'm simply writing today to say thank you -- and to express my ongoing appreciation at the amazing generosity of our viewers.  Last night we did a follow-up on the orphanage in Afghanistan. I was only home from work for a few hours when we learned they had already received 500 e-mails from Nightly News viewers -- many of them offering donations and pledges to sponsor a child.  It is immensely gratifying, and I'm beyond words in expressing my thanks and appreciation on behalf of the lovely children we met over there. Thank you.

We hope you can join us tonight.

Thank you for all that you do.  It is an honor, and an absolute joy to be able to listen to the news each evening.  As a dedicated viewer I thank you for your time and I appreciate all the hard work that you put into each broadcast.  Aside from donating & sponsoring a child, if there is anything else that I can do to help please let me know.

You absolutely do have some very generous viewers and we will give, because we care.  You bring us the stories that matter from places that most have forgotten even exist.  Your dedication, and commitment to excellence, is appreciated.

This, and the many stories that you do, are why I am nominating you for the 2010 Voices & Legendary Leaders of Tomorrow Today on Twitter.  Thanks again Brian.  You, and the entire NBC staff are truly appreciated.

Have a blessed day.
Hi Brian:

It was such a great feeling to do something to help the children.  Your report was outstanding and it really made me happyp to be one of your very loyal viewers that sent in a donation. I hope to do more soon.  You're the best, Brian, and when you ask for help you'll get it from all of us.
How does she do it?
I don’t know.  My friend beats me every day, in seeing what Brian’s Blog is all about.
Then, she phones, shares everything and ruins the novelty, the element of surprise.
Gotta have a serious talk with her.
What moved me the most regarding the “Orphanage” story is the tender interaction between Brian and the young lady – exchanging eyewear.
There is nothing more precious than that.  A sincere, unforgettable moment.

The past week has been filled with sober stories and the focus on them made me forget to thank NBC for the Madonna clip posted on their site.
Thank You.
Madonna is extremely gifted. Best song ever: "Take A Bow."

What a day as we have the results of the elections. My congrads go to all the winners. I do feel sorry for the New Jersey citizens as Christie is under investigation for several crimes one includes Karl Rove. Now few report that two more Democrat seats added to Congress. I wrote President Obama and asked him not to abuse Congress with a blank check like President Bush did for 8 years.
Good news for the unemployed as it's ready for the final votes even if thousands of more are added to those who are waiting for help.

Maybe Cozine will reture as CEO of Goldman Sachs or get a job with the Obama Cabinet.

Sarah Palin will be only on Fox News and Oprah to push her new book. She support Mr. Hoffman who lost the election and Mr. Hoffman should have chosen another Mentor rather then Glenn Beck. Smart move on Mrs. Palin's part as she has her book and a coloring book on sale.

Looking forward to seeing the broadcast tonight
Best to all the regulars
Evening, Brian.

Things like these, showing the great powers of journalism, inspire me more and more everyday. It must be an indescribable feeling to report a story like this of someone making such a difference in these childrens' lives, and then to have your own generous viewers help make a difference for these wonderful children. It's truly a beautiful, inspiring story. I wish I could just send my contribution now, but sooner or later they will be hearing from me, and I hope to hear back from them.

Onto the broadcast:

The news was hard this evening. The news from Cleveland has been stomach churning, and heart-wrenching from the beginning. My heart goes out to the families of these women.

A heartbreaking discovery in North Dakota. I know there's absolutely nothing I can say that could make anything better, but my heart goes out to the girls' families, friends, and teammates.

Great reporting from Ali Arouzi in Tehran. The fact that he is the only American journalist reporting from Iran shows his bravery and dedication. It also makes me worry. Wishing him safety and thanks always for his reporting.

As always, it was so great seeing Tom (Brokaw) on the broadcast tonight. Calling him simply “Tom” comes just as natural as calling you “Brian”. His reporting from Colorado should be a wake-up call to those debating the healthcare bill. I know there are many things to consider before passing any healthcare bill, but we can't loose sight of who we're doing this for, and why.

Lots of love to all of the Nightly News viewers out there! I'm so happy to know what generous people I join in watching every evening.

Thank you, Brian!

It seems I forgot to mention: Tonight is the night in Yankee Stadium! Now, I'm a Yankees fan -- but more so for you and Matt Lauer I will be cheering them on and hoping to see your happy faces in the morning and tomorrow evening! GOOD LUCK! I will be clinching my Yankees cap tightly during tonight's game...

Good Night, and Good Luck.

Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another fine broadcast this evening! It is simply AWESOME the response by the Nigthtly News viewers in sending donations and sponsoring the children from that Afghanistan orphanage. So many wonderful children will be helped and it is really heartwarming!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Todd about the election results from Tuesday. It showed the message of the voters and the economy is the main issue on their minds. People are worried about the direction of the country and want to see some positive changes. There are certainly challenges facing the parties and hopefully things will turn for the better in the nation.
On another note the report by Mr.Arouzi from Iran concerning the protests showed much violence throughout the city against the government and remembering the 30th anniversary of the storming of the US Embassy. One always hopes for a more peaceful region, yet it takes much time to conquer all the violence.
The report by Mr.Yang concerning the discovery of the three missing softball players from Dickinsin State University was heartbreaking. So very tragic all three girls perished in the submerged SUV. Hearing from their friends and families they all sounded like great girls and really nice teammates on the softball team. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the friends and families of the girls.

Nice to know there is another ocean forming in the Ethiopian desert. Always fascinating when these discoveries are made by scientists.

The piece by Mr.Brokaw from the "American Character" series was quite interesting tonight from Grand Junction,Colorado. It appears that healthcare is working in a positive way in this city and hopefully helping many people. Hearing how they are handling their practices it might work in other States. Anything that works well for people and keeps costs down is good.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Exrta Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
Hi Brian,

It's sad that although by a slim margin, some Maine voters decided to repeal a law that "allowed" gays to marry. No adult should have to ask permission to marry. The church really has too much say in politcs. As I wrote before, Seperation of Church and State seems to be one-sided, especially when it interferes with EVERY person's right to the pursuit of happiness, and freedom, to say the least--and not just to the people that have been given a green light to make it through those pearly gates. The major excuse of the far right is getting old. They're out to protect their kids from what they see is an abomination. Hopefully when their kids grow up, they'll see how narrow-minded and archaic the mentality of their parents really was.

On a much lighter yet still important note, it's amazing to think of a possible new ocean. You always bring us segments that I want to follow up with. I'm definitely going to look up this.

I just have a couple of comments on one more subject then it's off to the game.
Pedro Martinez, I'm calling you out while you're getting ready to pitch: Who's your daddy? And don't beat up on old men again!
GO YANKEES!! Brian, run over to the stadium and let them get a shot of you wearing your cap. We know which one you wear--for tonight.

Bye
Suicide bombers should be called homicide bombers.  Their intent is to kill other people, usually innocent bystanders, shoppers, etc for dramatic, political effect.  The bomber is just a coward and collateral damage.
Good Going Donors;kindness and generiousty plants the seeds children grow up remembering passing appreciation far and wide in the minds producing an abundance of love;compasion;peace and goodwill to all mankind we can live together as neighbors helping one another to better life without conflict hardship and pain only good can come from good hearts giving to generate happiness to those most in need the children in an orphanage. My Mother was in an orphanage!! My Check is on its way!!
How 'bout an update on the total funds your broadcast generated for this impressive program.  Even in these tought times I hope that thousands found room in their budget for a $10 or $20 contribution as we did.  As Obama proved during his fund-raising efforts, small donations by millions can make such a great difference.
Seriously..
One “brother” against another “brother.”
Sad.
Michael Steele is having a ball.  This is what he has been longing for:
The Republican win in Virginia and New Jersey.
Privately, Michael Steele wants Obama to fail.
He does.
Not too long ago, when asked about Obama being the first Black President –
Michael Steele’s response? –
“I am the Chairman of the RNC.”  And, he was tart.
Unbelievable.
Steele’s attempt to connect by throwing hip, urban lingo is insulting and demeaning.
Mr. Steele, how about throwing REAL policies?

This morning, on my local radio station, there was a funny debate about (of all things)ketchup.
Instantly, I was reminded of the best line from a Clint Eastwood film:
“Nobody, and I mean nobody puts ketchup on a hotdog.”

Some time ago, a blogger was critical and referred to racism as “fluff.”
I have a rule: Never react when emotional.
It has been a while so I will one day utilize this blog to seriously discuss RACE.

Dear Brian,

Thank you for this wonderful piece of peace work which brings help to the children. I LOVE your orphanage drive. That said, I can't just accept this whacko war as a given and content myself with caring for the most whole children left. What is happening for the children left without legs and arms and minds by this senseless violence? How many of these children were orphaned by US forces, how many by "local insurgents"?  BTW, I say this war is whacko since the CIA and people like recently resigned navy Sergeant Matthew Hoh say our war there only created more violence and builds the "insurgency"; (See Ralph Nader's excellent analysis, Afghanistan: To What End? on Common Dreams' website,) he adds the "insurgents" are not so much Taliban or Al Quaida as Afghanistanis rightly protecting their homes and culture. What do you think? Are American forces there just to profiteer off war and heroine as usual? All I'm saying is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. How can we prevent more of these children from losing parents, peace and homes? Perhaps by, as a country, learning not to "need" the spoils we get from these cockamamie wars? But tell me what you think could be the fastest road to peace and prevention and whether, as an NBC reporter, with GE manufacturing lots of  weapons, you are even allowed to report on how we can find an end to war? If I'm wrong straighten me out. I'm fascinated to listen!
I have been watching the news here in the Philippines almost everyday, without fail I love your news broadcast and to mention I got a niece who lives in New York. I like how NBC delivers your news very suprub.

Thanks.
