Many of us would have been just as happy to see that little Colorado balloon adventure turn out to be an innocent misunderstanding so that we could all move on to other things. We learned today, however, that apparently isn't the case.

Colorado authorities said today that they were duped – and so were all of uswatching that balloon careening through the sky while silently praying for a little boy we were told was in it. Sheriff's investigators say they plan to file charges against the parents that could lead to jail time. Toying with a country's emotions is not a crime, but intentionally leading rescuers on a wild goose chase is. Tonight on the broadcast, we will tell you why authorities now think the whole thing was a hoax and what was behind it.

We'll look for you later on NBC Nightly News.

Dear Lester,

Poor little Falcon.  He's so stressed out that he repeatedly vomited on national television.  No child should be put through that.  Maybe this will be the wake-up call his parents so obviously need.  Eccentric and curious doesn't have to mean erratic and deceptive.  Get some help, people!

@ Jackie - Welcome back!  I speak for your friends here when I say I look forward to hearing about your travels!

@ Celine - Thanks for the heads up about Lewis Black's film.  I love him.  Did you see Dexter Filkins the other night on Rachel Maddow?  Fabulous, as always!

Great newscast tonight.
You might want to double check your facts regarding the "flu" and Sheriff Randy Henderson from Reno County..... I think he is from Reno County KANSAS!!
Facts, my friend, facts.
Good Evening Mr.Holt, Nice to see you this evening! Another fine broadcast tonight! First of all the report by Mr.Cowan concerning the Colorado family and the hoax of the balloon flying through the sky. It is terrible this whole incident played out on television and ended up being a "wild goose chase" thinking a little boy was trapped inside the balloon. It is sad to think the parents were doing this elaborate scheme to get a reality show on television. One feels badly for the children in this situation.

On another note the report by Michelle Franzen about the weather around the country showed some very unusual weather conditions. All the snowfall in the Northeast and the flooding in Oyster Bay really caused problems for the residents. Besides the downpours in Seattle which even for that State seemed alittle too much along with extreme heat in the Southwest. One hopes things will be somewhat more normal soon, but only mother nature can tell.

The report by Stephanie Gosk from Islamabad showed how the violence has definitely increased in Pakistan due to the miltitary fighting off the taliban. So many refugees fleeing the region of Wasiristan along the border the officials are being extra cautious checking id's and searching vehicles. Hearing the taliban are hiding in caves and tunnels for protection is not surprising, but definitley disturbing knowing the will most likely continue attacks in the area. Hopefully, the capital of Islamabad will not be targeted and the military can keep them from attacking. Only time will tell.

The report by Mr.Aspell about the fingerprint of Leonardo Da Vinci's found on the painting is quite an incredible find. Seeing the way the fingerprint was discovered by an infared camera was extremely interesting and the way the painting was done with shading in the technique of Leonardo. Very Interesting! There is a great exhibit right now at the High Museum in Atlanta showing the work of Leonardo Da Vinci. I went to the exhibit and it was really wonderful!
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Hopefully, the Atlanta Falcons will do well tonight against the Chicago Bears at the Georgia Dome. Atlanta's big night on NBC! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
Lester,
It's contemptible that such a hoax
would be played on the emotions of all
us. "All families do not rememble one
another," to paraphase the first sentence
of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina.

All of your stories were superb,
especially the 20th Anniversary of
the Earthquake in California.

I appreciated the conversation between
you and David Gregory on The Today
Show this morning about healthcare.
I also saw the entire broadcast of
the show on Saturday.  I almost always
tune in.

Phyllis
hi i know richard heene he worked by contract with abc see my documentation on this go to my website and then go to my you tube channel i have uploaded info in support of richard heene
I remember our last trip to London.  I dragged my friends to museums, theaters and everything to do with the Arts.
I need to thank them because they had other interests.
NBC, thank you for your wonderful story on da Vinci’s lost La Bella Principessa.
It is a lovely serving of Art.
Art, in every form, is so beautiful..

I have to express my doubts about Colorado protecting the six year old in the balloon incident.  Having gone through the experiance of having our first grandson, Cody Wood, murdered in Loveland Colorado, I feel firsthand knowledge proves this. Concerns presented to Colorado Social Services regarding abuse occuring were scorned and the mother in custody was even informed who was requesting concern on the childs welfare.  Unfortunastely Cody was dead a month later with no action on Social Services part other than to identify the persons concerned about the welfare of our grandson, and totally ignoring the history of abuse that was occuring.  I only wish Cody would have recieved the national press attention this case recieved.
Lester,

About 6 months or so you interviewed
Suze Orman and I was impressed and
bought her book "2009 ACTION PLAN"
Anyway this afternoon I saw Top 10
Money Tips for Women.  A few I will
share:
1.  Don't hand over finances to husband
because it makes for a better relation-
ship.  I agree.
2.  Don't play the blame game.  It
renders you powerless  She's right,
absolutely.
3. Don't sell yourself.  Well, yeah
that makes you what?  A hooker
4. Own the power to control your
destiny.   Power comes from who you are.
Totally agree.  I would like to add
it's okay to be who you are as long as
you are cool about it (a quip from a
cartoon but great advice)

Have a nice day and evening.

Phyllis
