The deaths of 8 Americans in a Taliban attack in Afghanistan is raising the stakes both on the battlefield, and in Washington, over the question – what now?

With American casualties mounting, and the administration weighing whether to deploy tens of thousands more troops to Afghanistan, we'll have firsthand accounts of the situation on the ground. Our Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski will join me live from Kabul this evening after touring the region where the attack occurred. In addition, our veteran war correspondent Richard Engel is just back from Afghanistan, and will be with me in studio to offer his perspective on what American troops and their commanders are facing.

We're also covering the imminent release (slightly ahead of schedule) of the H1N1 flu vaccine. We'll tell you who is slated to get the first doses.

We will look at what's on the Supreme Court's calendar as they prepare to begin their fall term, as well as examine the extreme lengths an Illinois man is accused of going to in order to stalk and secretly videotape ESPN reporter Erin Andrews.

I hope you can join me later for NBC Nightly News.

Good Evening Mr.Holt, Another fine broadcast this evening! ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO SEE RICHARD ON THE BROADCAST! GREAT TO SEE YOU SAFE AND SOUND IN THE NEW YORK STUDIOS!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOUR DOCUMENTARY TO BE SHOWN THIS WEEK!! I'M SURE IT WILL BE EXCELLENT!!
Now on to the broadcast! First of the the report about Afghanistan.
The report by Mr.Miklasweski from Afgahanistan told of a terrible attack on military outpost near the Pakistan border. Hearing the firefight lasted for six hours and was extremely deadly with 8 US soldiers killed is so incredibly tragic. As stated in the report the firefight was so intense that Apache Helicopters had to turn away really shows how these tribal militia are determined to drive out any US troops from the area. Seeing where the military outpost was located made it a target for the militia who could fire without being seen making it difficult for the US troops to find them. The decision to close the outpost in two days was good except the firefight happened before the day came to close it. So very sad for the families. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of fallen soldiers.
Richard's report stating the firefights kept in the remote areas are critical since it is away from the populated cities. The troops are needed to defend the cities protecting the citizens living in the areas. As Richard stated the tribal militia are different from the taliban because they are in the eastern part of the region and could have crossed over to fight the troops angry thre troops are in the region.
The report by Mr.Viqueira from the White House showed how President Obama faces tough choices in the War in Afghanistan whether to add more troops which General McChrystal is wanting to happen. There is much opposition to the decision to send more troops. Only time will tell.
Always Excellent Reporting Richard! Cannot Wait to See Your Documentary this Week!

On another note the report by Ian Williams from Padang,Sumatra concerning the devastating earthquake certainly showed massive destruction caused by the landslides. The people are trying so hard to dig out and find their lost loved ones, yet there was some hope when some said the landslides stopped short of their homes. Saving many lives.
The report by Chris Jansing about the swine flu vaccine showed how many hospitals are attempting to prepare for the arrival of the vaccine and keep from being overrun with patients. Information is key to making people aware of the flu outbreak and hopefully things will go smoothly.

The piece by Mr.Alexander about baseball teams offering opportunities for people to come and enjoy baseball certainly is a big hit with parents and children. More than just games, but other activities really helps give a better experience. Nice piece.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt! Great to see you Safe and Sound in New York Richard! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard! Excellent Reporting As Always! Always wonderful to see you in New York!
XOXO
Are you going to report the news as you "see" it or report the news the way Obama would like you to portray it?  Just tell it like it really is!
Lester,
I saw the "pain segment" on this
morning's Today show and thought it
was interesting; but I think a
hot tub works better and is much
more fun.
Have a nice weekend!
Phyllis
Lester,
On Friday night when I wrote comments
to Brian about the President Obama
and the Nobel Peace Prize I was at a
loss of words except:  Congratulations!!
In this morning's Louisville- Courier
Journal there was an editoral about
the event which astonished the world.
Surprise does not cover it.  Anyway,
there was forceful reference to his
speech in Cairo, "A New Beginning" and
I believe I wrote an email to  youlast
June about about this speech  I quote
in part  "Mr. Obama was speaking of the
relationship between Americans and Muslims
around the world in that speech, but
the themes of "principles of justice and
progress, tolerance and the dignity of all
human beings" resound among all people
and all nations  The Nobel Peach Prize is an
indication of how mightly they do resoun
d.  Several more paragraphs of this
electrifying speech were quoted as well.

This afternoon, I was reading a
commentary on Rev, Chapter 21, in
which it was stated that one of deepest
human longings is for a new beginning,
and I believe it will happen.

President Obama's speech in Cairo
was powerful, and I have a copy of
it.

I hope your broadcast is not pre-empted
by golf.  I am writing now in case
it is.  You and Brian are terrific and
I write emails to both of you as time
permits and also if I have something
to say on an issue.

Phyllis
