A few items of interest: Noonan on the Sotomayor Hearing, why Mark McKinnon is kinda happy Obama sneaks a few cigarettes now and again, and a few words from Bo Obama.  And since this very building contains one of the studios long rumored to be the "location" of the Apollo 11 moonwalk, there's this from Newsweek.  That should keep us all busy until Monday.

Thank you for being with us this week, and for joining us tonight.  Have a great weekend, and I'll see you on Monday night.

How exciting to see that Tom Watson is co-leader after the second round of the British Open!  Go, Tom, go!  Woo hoo!

Peggy sounds a little sad. Maybe she get out of New York where people pride themselves on how well they can lie.
hi  your marie barteromo did not have her facts straight when talking about bank of america and citi group   both banks had to sell assets to achieve a positive earnings report   it would otherwise have been a loss for both
On Fri. 7/17/09, you mentioned an online school for a bachelors degree.  Whould you please send me an e-mail address.  My daughter has 3 boys ages 5 and under and had luekemia and is trying to complete her education in the least amout of time.  I appreciate your info.  Thanks,  Gerry Hornung
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another great broadcast this evening. Thank you for all the links in your posting! Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Ian Williams from Bangkok, Thailand concerning the 2 explosions in Jakarta,Indonesia which is simply horrible. Seeing the destruction at the JW Marriott and the Ritz Carlton showed how these suicide bombers really managed to get by security and plan out the attack in one of the rooms at the JW Marriott. It is certainly extremely difficult to control these break away groups, but hopefully more leaders will be captured. A frightening situation for international travelers who stay at these hotels which lately have been targets in the last few years. One always hopes there will be a time when none of these groups exists.

Very tragic and sad to see the funeral of the Billings couple who were so brutally murdered in the robbery at their home. They were such a beloved couple in the community taking in all the children with special needs. It is simply awful. My thoughts and prayers go out to the children.

The "What Works" segment by Mr.Costello about adults going back to school at Universities who have classes online showed how these adults are reinventing themselves for new careers. The Western Governors University certainly has helped many students and especially the the mother who now teaches second grade and is really enjoying it. Giving many people a bright new future!

Nice to know Pope Benedict XVI is recovering after his fall. I hope he continues on a positive path to full recovery.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Tibbles was really nice and the children at Camp Rhythm seem to be having a wonderful time. All survived cardiac surgeries and can share their experiences with other children. But all the great activities of rock climbing, rope climbing, swimming and other things makes them feel like normal kids. It is a terrific camp for these children. I like the name too! Camp Rhythm is a great name!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams! That's okay you had trouble getting out the last words of the broadcast! It has been a long and busy week! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO

Hi Brian,

I only got to watch the last portion of your broadcast. In the "Making a Difference" segment, it was really nice to see the kids at Camp Rhythm. Just being around other kids with scars probably meant a lot. But then the summer fun and being able to challenge themselves is something they'll never forget. The friends that a child makes during summer camp is a very special kind of friend. I remember those days. The medical staff and drs. were doing a terrific job in calming the fears of the parents too. Kevin Tibbles is a great reporter.

Earlier today I was watching MSNBC and saw Bo's op-ed piece. It was nice and feels so "american." I personally have never had a chance to feel this way about a First Family. I was a couple of yrs. old when JFK was president. But I really enjoy seeing everything that the Obama's, including Bo do.

Back to MSNBC, Brian, you and Lester have competition. Dylan Radigan is a sharp dresser. I've begun rating his ties. Seriously, he along with Carlos Watson and Dr. Nancy are adding a lot of class, not so much of watching a continuous office party. I'll be going back to work next week so there won't be watching much of anything. But I will be able to watch the Nightly News most nights.

You purple tie was one of my favorites. And I like it when you get tongue tied or cough, as long as you're o.k. You just grin and keep right on going-a true professional.

Have a great weekend, get some rest, and we'll see you Mon. evening.

Vicki
Hi again Brian,

I just heard about Walter Cronkite passing away while watching "Countdown." Then I heard you talking with David Schuster (filling in for Keith) about Walter. My grandparents preferred NBC but sometimes we would tune in to CBS and listen to Mr. Cronkite. He had a commanding voice and demeanor yet a very grandfatherly feel about him. It was nice to hear that he had joined you for dinner at your home. I can't imagine what it was like to know him. I would have had so many questions to ask him about his career. He seemed like a larger than life figure. Besides being great journalists and anchors you have some of his qualities. I admire your strength of character. Old fashioned words come to mind after depending on you for the news: fortitude, gumption, and grit.
I'm sure Walter and the greats from NBC are proud of you.

Have a safe trip home and a nice weekend.

Viki
Oh, Brian, how sad it was to come home to the news that Walter Cronkite had died.  Your look back on his life was extremely touching and wondeful.  I do remember seeing him every night on our living room television as he was the only anchor my parents watched.  He was the epitamy of an anchor with hard work, and genuine feelings for the reports he gave. Each report was something special to him and he gave the story to us with that special feeling.  Everyone could see how much he thoroughly enjoyed reoprting the news.  I know later in the year you will be receiving the 2009 Walter Cronkite Award For Excellence In Journalism.  What an honor to be bestowed upon you.  I read a statment you once made about him and said "I only hope I am worth of the meaning and tradition of this honor.  Walter Cronkite is the only reason I entered the field of journalism".  You have no worries you are absolutely,
and completely, deseriving of this award.  You are now the same fixture that he was in everyone's living room each nite because of your hard work.  I know you must be very sad over his death but what a wonderful honor they are bestowing on you in his name.

The President's speech to the NACCP was riviting.  He is so right but not only to African Americans but to all people when he spoke of it being time we became responsible parents and took the responsibility to shape our children's futures.  We all need to become parents to our children and not just their friends.  Our children need encouragement to know  and understand that with hard work and belief in themselves they can become anything they want to be.  They don't only have to be rich, they can all do it.  I hope that this speech hits home for all people.

I think the health care reform package from the President is going to be a tough sell to Congress.  We need this reform so much and so soon.  I know he still trusts that this will happen this year but only time will tell and we can only hope it will.

It was good to hear the reports from Wall Street that it is looking better for the banks as well as GE & IBM.  Maybe they are right and we have seen the worst but I now it sounds good but for most of us still struggling with job loss and our poor economy we have not seen much of this new found growth as of yet.

I saw Peggy Noonan today on Morning Joe and they were discussing her artical in bits and pieces.  Thanks for the link to it so I can read the whole article.

Also thanks for the link to a "few words from Bo Obama".  It was a wonderfully delightful and enjoyable story.  It appears he is having a very good life and is fitting right in.

Your "Making A Difference" story about the camps that children with heart disease are being able to attend was wonderful.  It is amazing what they do for these kids so they can experience what normal children get to enjoy, going to summer camp.  They get to laugh and have fun and feel good about what they can accomplish, yet they are secure and their needs are fully taken care of.  What a wonderful gift these kids receive.  You are so right this was a great way to end your broadcast tonight.

You not only need a rest but you are so deserving of one but I am not sure if you know the definition of rest.  I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend.  See you Monday for your broadcast and will look for your blog.
I am trying to find a way to contact Mr williams in regarads to a topic that I have been seeing alot of on the internet.  The topic is the court case revolving around Pres. Obama and his legal rights to be president and the question before the Supreme Court regarding is US citizenship.(obama aka as Barry soetero) and judge Scalia's comments.  Why is this being covered up and not reported on.  Unless of course we are now part of the Soviet Union and all negative reports about this man are to be hidden.  Please respond.  A us citizen since birth!!!!
On June 25th, 2009 Ed Freeman, Medal of Honor recipient, died.  Did NBC Nightly News cover that event?  I don't remember any coverage.  I know that you and Tom are sticklers for such things and I am glad.  If you did cover his death, I appologize.
