The aftermath

I've been flooded with comments from friends and co-workers about the redeye experience involving the lone, lonesome canine in a cage in the cargo hold of our 737 for a night flight to Newark. People are expressing amazement that it was audible, en route, all the way across the country...and while I tried using noise-cancelling headphones, just knowing the noise was there...and where it was coming from...proved to be a heart-tugging distraction, as it was to other passengers in the darkened cabin.

We've fortunately never had to fly our beloved Lucy anywhere, but I know she wouldn't like it.  It was just an odd aviation sidebar -- one I'm sure others have experienced, but it was a first for our traveling team.

We hope you can join us for the broadcast tonight.

Typical NBC News & Brian Williams reporting about the black kids harassed at pool in Pa today. What about reporting about the white family in Ohio today neaten by gang of black kids. I am not racist but NBC and Williams are definetely anti White
Hi Brain,

I'm not going to comment on everything. You always have the best reporters. It was great to see Richard Engel in your studio I'm glad to see that Ali Arouzi is doing o.k. And Chuck is an extremely hard worker.

It always disturbs me as to what we do to each other in this country. The graves in Chicago being sold multiple times-that is so sick on so many levels. Those criminals should be given a hundred yr. sentence. I can't imagine the pain the families of the victims are going through.

What's been going on at The Valley Club is another disgrace to mankind. And some people probably want to shrug it off. I hope they go out of business. No one, especially children, should be disrespected that way. They will proably remember it for the rest of their lives. It's sad that we've come so far in science and technology, but we have a long way to go when it comes to the human species.

Brian, on a much lighter note,(this helps me),your tie was beautiful and unstriped. Sorry. But I'll be missing your striped ties soon. You're great either way. I don't know how you do it day in and day out. You have a strong fortitude.

Have a beautiful evening and we'll see you tomorrow night.

P.S. They're holding a rally in Columbia for Gov. Sanford to resign or be impeached. They have a facebook address that people can go to and express their opinions. I suppose people can do a quick search for it. That's where I'm going right now.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another great broadcast this evening. I can understand why you would be getting many comments about the poor doggie in the cargo hold on the flight back to New York. It must have been heartwrenching to hear. I would think your beloved dog Lucy would definitely not enjoy it at all. Thank goodness it has never happened to Lucy.

Now on to the broadcast. ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO SEE RICHARD ON THE BROADCAST! AND IN THE STUDIO WITH YOU IN NEW YORK! WOO! HOO! I was very happy and excited to see Richard safe and sound in New York!
Richard's report concerning the returning violence in Iran protesting the election results and the system of government in Iran shows this will not be going away any time soon. Even though the government was cracking down on the protestors with tear gas, clubbing and firing weapons it did not stop the people from getting out into the streets. As Richard stated it is the first in 11 days and even though it was not as large a group of protestors it was relatively organized from the websites giving information of groups gathering for protests. It is a new wave of violence and the discontent as Mr.Arouzi stated is widespread and deep. The protests are sporadic, but the frustration will continue amidst the people of Iran.
Excellent Reporting Richard! Great to see you in New York Safe and Sound!

Within the Middle East it was terrible to hear of more violence in Iraq and Afghanistan. I always wish peace for all the innocent civilians. Time will tell.

On another note the report by Mr.Tibbles from Chicago concerning the 300 graves that were desecrated for reselling the plots is sickening and horrible. One can definitely not understand why people would do such a despicable thing and my heart goes out to all the families effected by this terrible crime. Those who did this awful act should be punished fully. Again, my thoughts go out to all the families during this time and hope all the loved ones are accounted.

The report by Anne Thompson about the strange weather across the nation certainly brought about some predictions for the coming Fall and Winter seasons. Looking at the map presented in the report the South appears to be getting much precipitation on those months. We will wait and see.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Great to see you Richard!! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard!! Always wonderful to see you!! Excellent Reporting as Always!
XOXO

Hi Brian:

Great Broadcast and  Blog today.

I know you have heard a lot of comments about that poor dog locked in a cargo hold on your flight back to New York.  I have seen a few very negative remarks made it.  I'm sorry, I will say that I am not as much of a dog lover that you are, but if you someone with blood running through your veins you can't help but feel for any animal in distress, their cries are heart wrenching.  So sad for those with ice in their veins to not feel anything for an animal.

How horrifying for those in Illinois to find their loved ones had been just dug up and dummped in order to resell their graves. The men doing this did not even have the compasion to care for the remains of those they dug up.  I hope the men that did this are severely punished.

You were right in your previous reports that we have not seen the end of the Swine Flu.  I know the government is stepping up to insure vaccines will be available.  I just hope that all of us remember your prior reports on what we can do to help protect ourselves and begin doing it now.

So good to see Richard in New York with you.  It is so sad to hear that Iran's government is still fighting with and inflicting so much violence against the people.  I wish that all of the efforts of the demonstrators could make a difference but it doesn't seem likely that will happen.

I know that some are saying Obama is doing too much with this summit and the problems we have here at home but I think he is doing the right thing.  I am sure he is kept fully aware of what is happening at home during this trip by his staff.  What happens in the United States does play a major role in what happens in the world.  We may need a new forum for these summits but until we develope it this is the best we have to work with.

You are so right the weather in our Country is absolutely crazy.  Hail with temperatures in the 100's in Texas, 24 days of straight rain in June in New York, and when does it ever get to be 103 in Hayward, California where I live.  Most of us do not have air conditioning in our homes because we have never needed it, we need it now.  If it isn't El Nino, then what is causing this?  It appears from the reports we are in for some more crazy weather through the end of the year.  Maybe we'll have the snow for Christmas and you'll have 60 degree weather.

Glad to hear that GM may actually come out of this mess they were in.

Thank you for the great broadcast tongight.  I will look forward to your blog and broadcast tomorrow.  Have a great evening.

Also, very good tie choice tonight.

Good afternoon, Brian.

I'm glad to hear your beloved Lucy hasn't ever had to deal with the horrible experience of flying. I can imagine how scary it must be for dogs. Your Lucy looks like such a sweet dog, and I have to say that the two of you have sold me on shelter dogs. Whenever the time comes when I adopt my own little buddy I'll definitely look for a good rescue shelter. I was so glad to hear a while back that your family is big on shelter dogs. They need us, and we need them. That's all there is to it.

Great broadcast last night, and thank you for it. There's been a lot going on here lately, so I haven't been writing to your blog as much as I'd like to, but I've been keeping up just as usual.

Looking forward to hearing from you, and seeing you for the day's news this evening.

Take care!
-Cary
Just saw this article on CNN's website and thought of Brian William's sad story about the dog in the cargo hold: "More airlines embracing furry travelers" http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/07/10/pets.fly.airlines/index.html. As a fellow dog lover, I really hope airlines can come up with a safer and more humane way to transport our 4-legged friends!
Brian,

My son-in-law's grandmother is a huge fan of yours.  She is going to be 98 on August 17.  It would be the best birthday present ever if you would send her a birthday card.

She doesn't know about this, so it would be a surprise.  Please contact me at coapstickl@yahoo.com for her address.

Thanks.
Brian,

Myself and other college students love watching NBC Nightly News. You make watching the news an enjoyable experience despite the many sad stories you have to report. You bring us in and we feel like we're a part of the news. We'd love to hear what advice you have for young students looking to make it in the business, especially in this economy where competition is tougher than ever?
