Happy July 4th, I hope you are enjoying this day.

Earlier this week a friend of mine, a decorated military veteran, passed along an e-mail that's been making the rounds. It describes the steep price many of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence paid; torture and imprisonment to the shedding of blood on the battlefields of the Revolutionary War. The point of the e-mail was that amid our July 4th celebrations and gatherings, we should each take a minute to remember that our freedoms are not free.

We're putting together a broadcast tonight that will include more on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's stunning announcement that she is stepping down at the end of the month. There has also been another death connected to an apparent serial killer in a small South Carolina town.

I hope you will join us later for NBC Nightly News.

Hi Lester,

Hope you're having a great weekend. I was grabbing a bite to eat before I head back to the fairgrounds. I just read that the teenage girl, the fifth victim of the serial killer in S.C. has died. Gaffney S.C. is sort of in between Greenville, S.C.(where I live) and Cherokee, N.C.(where I'm staying). No one has any clues as to why it's going on. Gaffney is a very small, rural town where everyone knows each other. I hope they find the killer soon. I didn't get to watch you this morning and won't be able to this weekend. I'd like to find out what's going on with Sarah Palin. I don't think she's given up on the WH.
I hope you got my two e-mails. Both (together), explian a lot. I have to go now.

Have a good evening and have some fun. You work too hard.

Lester, I watched the news tonite - you were as professional as ever - but I was horrified that you mispronounced Okracoke!!  I heard you say "okracokey"!!  No, no, no.  It's pronounced just like the soft drink, please.  We'll blame it on the prompter, okay??  I do enjoy your reporting - on the news and on the Today show.
Good Evening Mr.Holt, HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO YOU!!!
Nice to see you for the broadcast this evening. Another fine broadcast this evening. First of all the report by Mr.Okwu regarding the preparations for the memorial for Michael Jackson. It certainly is going to be a massive job for all the Los Angeles police department to make sure the memorial goes smoothly. all the monitoring of the streets around the area and keeping up with the internet traffic is a huge task. One hopes the memorial service will go okay.

The report by Mr.Allen about the re-opening of The Statue of Liberty's crown was so moving and touching to see. It was great to hear from people who had been up to the crown before with their parents and now are taking their children or people who are visiting the crown whose parents came to America through Ellis Island and saw The Statue of Liberty on their arrival to the United States. It looks like quite a climb to the top, but worth every step to get to the crown and see the beautiful view.

The piece by Mr.Alexander about the teacher afflicted with Lou Gehrig's disease and the 70years since Lou Gehrig's famous speech was extremely touching. It showed such determination by the teacher to raise money to find a cure for this horrible disease. It was wonderful he was able to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium. One hopes a cure will be found soon.
Terrible to learn about soldiers killed in Afghanistan. It is so extremely tough fighting in the region. I hope they can come home soon.

Congratulations to Serena Williams on winning the Ladies Final at Wimbledon!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Have a wonderful and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Happy Fourth of July to all the regulars and to all!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO

I am seriously concerned about the reporting on something that I feel shoud be considered "obvious" our almost Bankrupt economy,  As President Obama has only now in May,2009 stated we have unsustainable debt.  President Obama is still pushing forward with his Health care plan which means MORE DEBT.
There is an old fable of an Emperor who had been deceived by his tailors and other enlightened people of his kingdom that his clothes were magnificent, when in reality the tailors were stealing the Emporer's money and the Emperor and his followers who did not want to seem out of the enlightened crowd agreed with the tailors; until a child saw the Emperor and said "The Emporer has no clothes!"
I cannot fathom how the enlightened media (and other mental giants) cannot do the math and not see that President Obama is putting our Country in serious economic peril.  President Obama (Emperor) "We have no money"
I was told early in my contract law not to sign anything you haven't read;  our country has a unsustainable debt that was pushed through and we do not know what it encompasses or what it is (or is not paying). Nor is ANYONE ACCOUNTABLE for it's misue, we do not know where our "unsustainable debt" money is going, intolerable.  I cannot believe the educated representatives for "the people" could put us in such peril.
I am not a racist, nor am I from Kentucky.  I am an American that can count.  I went to a Catholic school.  The obvious is we are following someone blindly who is putting our Great Nation in economic peril and except for FOX news we have the enlightened journalists who must have forgotten what they were trained to do, be unbiased and print the truth.
DO YOUR JOB before it is too late.

Thank you, Lester and NBC, for the beautiful pictures of the Statue of Liberty!  I imagine in my mind what my grandfather must have felt when he first saw that statue in 1912, as a young man of 17, coming from Greece to start a new life.  I try to picture what was going through the minds and hearts of my grandmother and great-mother when they sailed into the harbor on the Lusitania in 1907.  There probably are not words to express the joy that my grandparents felt.  I know I can't put into words how I feel every time NBC shows me Lady Liberty.  The pictures are stunning and emotional.  Please keep them coming.
Lester does a good job but they work him to hard on the weekends.  Outstanding.    I am, however, getting sick and tired of all the Mike Jackson coverage.... totally un-needed.  I hear that there are some major domestic problems in Islamic China... we get 10 seconds of this but 15 minutes on the passing of Mike Jackson .... why not give 10 minutes to the passing of a Congressional Medal of Honor person... the coverage of Mike Jackson has been a total waste of electricity
