It's suddenly becoming a busy Friday, with late word Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is resigning from office. This opens up a host of questions about what's behind the timing and what's next for a woman who's been seen as a formidable force in national Republican politics.

We're also finally getting some firm guidance as to plans for a Michael Jackson public memorial.

Brian is taking the holiday off, and I will see you later for NBC Nightly News.

Hi Lester,

I'm glad I was checking around on the computer. I won't be able to watch you tonight and this weekend but next weekend for sure. I hope you had a great week.

Sarah Palin is resigning? I keep looking at your blog to see if I read it correctly. Wow, I don't even know how to respond. But when I get back later, I'll check it out on this blog and read the comments.

I heard earlier that they've come up with a public memorial for Michael on Tues. I don't know why they couldn't plan it for somewhere larger than the Staples Center, but I'm not that familiar with L.A. I'm sure it will be a nightmare with everyone wanting to pay their respects to him. We're talking about a lot of people.

I wrote you in another post that I wouldn't be buying a copy of Gov. Sanford's book. I didn't know that he actually had some kind of deal with a publisher that fell through for obvious reasons. I was just kidding. I hope Jenny Snaford doesn't stay with him. That woman deserves much better. And he wouldn't have made in politics if it hadn't been for her.

Anyway, Lester, I have to get ready here and I'm out the door. I'll check in with you later. Things have definitely taken some really great turns here in Cherokee.

Have a terrific July Fourth weekend. I wish I could tune in tonight and this weekend. But I can count on you and Brian always being there. You'd better not leave on us. Life wouldn't be the same if either of you went some place else.

Bye for now.

Vicki
Here she comes. You watch. This woman is no patsy and I'm telling you right now, we have ALL had it with Comrad Obama and his thugs in WA. AND we've had it with your type of yellow journalism. Remember the definition of "yellow" you and all the mainstream media. There's some joker on there now from TownHall.com; like he knows anything. What a ticket. Sarah and Hilliary. Don't think it can be done. Watch.
Good Evening Mr.Holt, Nice to see you filling in for Mr.Williams this evening. I hope you have a very HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Mr.Cowan concerning the Memorial for Michael Jackson at the Staples Center this Tuesday. With 18,000 tickets available on-line and given out by lottery along with the overflow of people it will be an enormous crowd paying their respects to a musical legend. Certainly a tremendous job for the city to make sure everything goes smoothly and blocking off streets will help. Many, many people want to attend and hopefully all will run okay.

The report by Mr.Mott about Fourth of July festivities being scaled back due to the economy in many towns across the country will leave people disappointed. Fireworks and parades are great to see on the Fourth of July and it is sad when families cannot enjoy these events. Here in Atlanta the big fireworks shows in the city are sponsored by corporations who can fund these big shows, but still it is hard. Also, the predicted bad weather can be a factor in determining the scheduled event. Hopefully, the fireworks shows and parades can be enjoyed by all.

Regarding sports, it is great that Venus and Serena Williams are in the Wimbledon Finals! Also, Andy Roddick making it to the Wimbledon Finals too! Should be a good match between him and Roger Federer.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Allen was inspirational and showed these two businessmen really turned around this New Jersey neighborhood. With the help of wonderful volunteers the area was refurbished for five new homes and families can move in by the Fall. All the cleaning up and planting of gardens is truly changing the neighborhood for the better.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt! Have a Wonderful Fourth of July Holiday!! We Salute All Our Brave US Troops Serving Our Country! Happy Fourth of July to All!
Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Happy Fourth of July to all the Regulars!!!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard! Happy Fourth of July Richard!
XOXO
Palin is less than a media phenom. She is another citizen with real consequences for her actions.  She and her support staff  face immediate consequences for her misbehaviors and illegal acts.  None of this can be defended or managed while she is constrained by the requirements of being Governor of Alaska.  Sarah Palin needs a major cash flow to deal with legal defense and even more should she wish to promote her public personality in any field, be it entertainment, publication or, may we be spared, politics and government.  There is no future for a half-term gov from Alaska, so reread and rethink the above to understand what she is doing.  too simple a situation, this one does not even have the legs of OJ or Anna.whoseBoobies.N.s.
The hate and lies daily said about Palin from the media msnbc, nbc, cnn abc was probably more then any normal person could take. It's bad enough they tormented her but, the constant hate toward her family were/are totally acts of hate!! The media has turned into the lowest possible hell hole ever witnessed and is nothing but a total disgrace to America. The respect one used to have for news has left because it is such a radical extreme left wing organization and is daily getting worse.
I know why Palin decided on the third of July to make her announcement.  Saturday morning on the morning talk shows Palin led the news and was immediately followed by an equal amount of time of M. Jackson and his POSSIBLE drug use.  There were more "experts" saying if Jackson took drugs A, B and C or drugs B, T and Z in combo with Dipro in a home setting, blah, blah, blah.  And no speculation of why Palin quit.  Then the news coverage went to tickets for Tuesday for - wait for it - do I really have to say it?

Wow, it's amazing.  Palin knocked Jackson off the top news story but not in the number of minutes of coverage.

Just what will it take for the networks to get back to real news coverage other than Thursday July 9th?
Dear Lester,

I saw on MSNBC Friday that Viper Company has returned to Fort Hood, Texas from the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan.  Welcome home, soldiers, and happy Independence Day!

Laurel
Lester, could you please point out the obvious flaws in Ms. Palin's accusations?

From Sarah: "How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country," the statement said. "And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."

First she infers that Washington and the media are anti-American, but who in their right mind can connect how her decision to quit is "about country" when she has told us so little about her plans? Nice faux Us vs. Them setup.

Second, what higher calling is she referring to and WHO are the countless others who have quit their 4 year elected post after 2-1/2 years to write a book and go on the speaking circuit? FYI, neither John McCain nor Barack Obama quit their elected posts to pursue a "higher calling." Or is she referring to those who left their positions when they were called home to God? OMG. Maybe she's terminally ill!

Third, in the statement "of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make" is she using the royal "we?" I know no such thing. I'd apply the same standard of disbelief to anyone who quit their elected post for no other announced or apparent reason than naked ambition. (And, FYI, it applies "to" not "for.")
Lester,
One doesn't have to be a Palin supporter to see that many in the media hate the woman. These "journalists" seem to think that we're all as amused as they are when they slam and slander.
Anyone who works with kids has seen this phenomenon...among high schoolers...the ones who form a group and reinforce the bullying of a target.
Do these journalists have such low self-esteem that they attempt to elevate themselves by bullying another?
If those who filed ethics charges against Sarah Palin, which were of course unfounded, didn't have to pay a dime while she had to pay almost 500 thousand in lawyers fees, etc. then the law should be changed. File a charge and lose and YOU pay the fees.

So when do we start filing on Obama?

Palin is so popular among the Republican base and so magnificently put together on all fronts that she is clearly a threat to the liberal ideology. She became the main target for digging dirt.

Letterman was losing sponsors AND credibility so he HAD to apologize to Palin for his utter stupidity.

Palin has much up her sleeve and it's killing the libs, wondering where she'll go and what she'll do.

Stay tuned ......
