The protectors in dark glasses

I traveled to the Secret Service training facility in Maryland last week to tell the story of the men and women behind the dark glasses who put their lives on the line for the president and others. Before we pulled out the cameras they asked us to watch a video briefing about the agency, and I had to smile when I realized the voice in the narration was none other than Clint Eastwood. I figured it said an awful lot about how they must regard his performance as a Secret Service agent in the 1993 film "In the Line of Fire."

Before long, I saw for myself what it takes to prepare agents and uniformed officers for what is arguably one of the most important jobs in law enforcement. After all, they protect the leader of the free world.  We witnessed agents training on firearms, officers demonstrating explosive detection, the versatility of their canine units, and toured a virtual city where sniper attacks, explosions and car chases are all in a day’s work.

The highlight for me was playing the role of a "protectee" stepping off an Air Force One mock-up, flanked by agents and met by a crowd gathered along a barricade line. I had pretty much guessed this little demonstration would feature some kind of a simulated threat, and I was not disappointed. You'll see what happened on my report tonight on Nightly News, but for now, suffice to say, the swiftness and precision of how my protective team reacted in this training demonstration took my breath away.

I hope you'll join us tonight for that, plus what President Obama told Brian Williams in an exclusive interview about General Motors as it prepares to enter bankruptcy on Monday.

Hi Lester, This made me laugh!  I too smiled recently when I had jury duty in Chicago.  As we all gathered at the beginning of the day, our instructional video started rolling and low and behold I knew that voice.  Lester Holt a few years back explaining our duties for the day:)
Hi Lester,

I watched you with the Secret Service this morning on the Today Show.(Sat.)
It was so frigtening, when you played the part of the "protectee", but thank God you don't need security on that level. I hope that you don't need any type of security. But I won't give away what happens in the segment.
I just want add that Amy and you make a great team. You're both classy and funny. One of the many reasons I try to catch you on Sat. mornings is to see what both of you are wearing. You look great in the pastel ties, prints, etc, but I can see how you would be able to be less formal on The Today Show.
Lester, have you lost a lot of weight? You always tease Amy about being "smalll", but please don't lose any more weight, Lester. I don't want you to get fatiqued and rundown.

Anyway, see you tonight.

Vicki
Hi again Lester,

I'm glad to hear that Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle are able to spend the night catching a broadway show. I hope they have a wonderful weekend before everything coming up this week as the President goes to Saudi Arabia, etc.

Prince Harry is reminding me more and more of his mother, Diana. He and Prince William definitely take after her, having tons of class.

You did an outstanding job with your segment on the Secret Service. They do an amazing job every single day. It was also nice to see the dogs being trained. I always wanted to train dogs to sniff out drugs. A friend that worked at the prison with me does that now, taking trained dogs to sniff out drugs in the prisons. Yep, drugs are all over the place, even in prisons.

Oh God,Susan Boyle getting second place. I haven't been able to watch the competion of course, but it seems that the dance troupe "Diversity", first place winners must be terrific. Have to check them out. But Susan will be making us a beautiful CD soon. She'll have her choice of the best seeing that this happens.

Lester, your tie is still a beautiful lavender as this morning! Not that it would actually change color. But God, you look amazing in lavender. Not that you ever look unamazing.

Well, Dear Bro. and our friend, have a great evening and have a nice dinner too. See you tomorrow night.

Vicki

P.S.

Go Jeter and A-Rod!! And all of the great membere of the Yankee team!!

P.S.S.

Lester, have big helping of dessert. You look very thin.
Good Evening Mr.Holt, A fine broadcast this Saturday evening. First of all the report by Chris Jansing concerning GM filing for bankruptcy on Monday. Much is at stake between the money invested at a huge amount and the jobs with no guarantee this will work is staggering news. Hearing that 1 in 5 dealerships will close is definitely not good news for people who worked so hard at those dealerships. Hopefully, things will get better. Time will tell.

The report by Mr.Alexander about the royal visit to New York from Prince Harry was quite exciting for all those who were able to catch a glimpse. Prince Harry's visit dazzled many people, yet he raised much money for his charity and made some important stops such as paying respects at Ground Zero for the victims of September 11th and visiting the soldiers. He did capture alot of attention at the polo match and scoring the game winning goal was great. It is wonderful he is raising awareness for his charitable organization. It was a great visit to the United States.

The piece about the secret service was very interesting Mr.Holt and brings to mind just how vital the job is for the secret service in protecting the President of the United States. Seeing how vigilant they were around you in the mockup showed how quickly they need to react when something happens. The practicing of different scenarios certainly helps in the real life situations and approaching everyday like the Super Bowl is a good analogy. Always keeping a close eye on any possible threats keeps everyone safe. Great work!

I enjoyed watching "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" last night. It was a great sign off by Jay Leno from late night and seeing the children all 68 of them at the end of the show was so amazing and touching. Jay saying their parents met on the stage of "The Tonight Show" was very touching and so very nice. Great moments! And I'm sure there will be more great moments on his ne timeslot at 10:00pm. We Welcome Conan O'Brian on Monday!

Looking forward to Mr.Williams special on "Inside th Obama White House" this Tuesday and Wednesday!
Thank You for the brodcast Mr.Holt! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO

Lester,
As always thanks for the news tonight.  I must say you were looking quite presidential.
Sounds like you had a good time in your Secret Service.

All the talk about President Obama taking our First Lady on a date to New York and many think he souldn't be spending taxpayers money as President. Next we'll hear he should be paying to be President and work for the people. Funny how supportive everyone was when the Stock Market Crashed as First Lady Laura Bush spent $100,000 on plates with the taxpayers money and how Law Makers gave themselves a really big raise in their salaries while millions were losing their homes, jobs and life savings. President Bush traveled many many times to his ranch and Texas without one person complaining about the cost. How many ways will President Obama be put down before people say enough is enough about these childist comments. I would hope more Law Makers would think as much about their own wives and take them out on a date for once.

The disrespectful comments made against Judge Sotomayor is really against each woman in the US. Some things said are dirty and make you wonder about the men running our States.

I saw the event President's Bush and Clinton gave in Canada. It was good Bush had Clinton with him things looked like they went well. I'm glad President Bush Senior got President Clinton to help his son.

We've heard the horror stories such as fire Tim Geithner, remove President Obama and don't confirm any nominee the President picks. Sotomayor was confirmed twice by the same Law Makers who now say she isn't qualified to be a Justice. If only these same people had said that when President Bush nominated her and they confirmed her. But it gets better President Clinton nominated Sotomayor for a higher job and the same GOP confirmed her with no problem. But now President Obama nominates she to the Supreme Court and all we hear is racism. You'd have to wonder how Thurgood Marhall, Clarence Thomas, Sanda Day O'Connor or even Justice Gingsburg ever get confirmed? Sotomayor is right about how decisions are made when a Judge can't relate to the person he's judging. I learn so much from those who aren't black or poor. I remember Chief Justice Wilentz said he learned from the people how they would feel when deciding. Walk a day in my shoes and maybe you'll know a little of how I feel. It's nice to think America is equal to all and every opportunity is open and we have now racial problems, but we're not there yet.

I saw a picture of Mr. Durham at the age of 40 years old and next to it was a picture of President Obama. The President looks just like his GrandFather except in color. I was shocked at how much they look alike.

Have a great evening all
Lester,
There is talk that you appeared in the movie
Primal Fear.  If I find out this is true, I'll
buy the VHS.  I would not be surprised because
you are better looking than all the leading men
in Hollywood.  You must be blushing, but  no
doubt your wife agrees with me and would not
resent my saying so.  You also look presidential.
You're the whole package as Alec Baldwin would say.
A Prince of a guy!!!
Phyllis
I saw a CLinton Eastwood movie, "Absolute Power"
and also read the book which was given to me by
a friend and it was riveting with a former president
and his wife behind the whole thing, a set up of
the new president. And there was a murder scene
in the opening which kept me awake all night.  You
must read this book if you have not already.  No
doubt you have seen the Clint Eastwood Movie
Of interest, perhaps.  This silly mess about
Pres. Obama's birth cetificate was started by a
Hilliary CLinton supporter and Democratic operatives
in Philadelphia during the primaries.  He took it
to court.

PS I hope the moderators will print this email because
I have sent you several on Obama's certificate.and
this one makes sense to me.
