A soggy holiday for some

Good afternoon. I hope you are enjoying a restful holiday weekend – and a dry one. The rain is not only watering down the plans of millions of Floridians, it is also leaving the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis in orbit for yet another extra day. The plan now is to try to bring them into the Kennedy Space Center, or Edwards Air Force Base tomorrow, weather permitting of course.

In the meantime, NASA is facing some much bigger crossroads in the next couple of years, and we learned today it will do so under the leadership of Marine Corps veteran and former space shuttle commander General Charles Bolden. The president is naming Bolden as NASA administrator, and he will be the first African American to hold that position. He has quite a story to tell of rising from segregated South Carolina, through the top tier of the military ranks, and into the space program. NBC's Tom Costello will have a lot more on General Bolden on the broadcast tonight.

We're hearing that President Obama's pick to replace retiring Justice Souter could come soon. We'll chat with “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory about that.

We've also got one of those stories that has many of us asking "what would you do?” Well, what would you do if the bank mistakenly applied several million dollars to your bank account?" It happened to a New Zealand couple – who apparently had little trouble deciding what to do.

And on this Memorial Day weekend, we will share a great story about the efforts one organization is going through to make sure some World War Two vets get to see an honor to their service that was a long time in the making.

I hope you can join us tonight for NBC Nightly News.

Lester,
As concerns WW2, I was reading that the war
started in September 1939 and this being 2009
that makes 70 years.  One Bible Study asked:
Is 2009 a Jubilee year?  A good question.
I am not knowledgable about the 70 year
Jubilee and Israel but it makes sense to
me that 2009 is a Jubilee year because of
WW2.  Anyway, an amazing coincidence.

Hi Lester
Interesting day as we honor our soldiers. Many out spoken people who demand President Obama help our troops and those who came home. I asked why all the demands are made to Obama when for 8 years no one said a word to Bush as he started it. Yes Stop Lock was created by Bush and now many say it's President Obama's fault. Next we'll hear everything that happen for 8 years was President Obama's fault. We have had Al Qeada detainees in US jails for over 6 years with not one American saying one word, now their yelling. 98 per cent of the detainees are innocent but the US was given false information still Americans really don't care. I wonder what America would do if a Country keep innocent Americans in jail on false information? We teach our kids to admit their mistakes and take the punishment for what they did wrong yet adults and Law Makers want to brush this under the rug and act like nothing happen. We are trying to justify the crimes we allow Bush/Cheney to do. When Pelosi took Impeachment off the table that sealed our guilt. No one can ask God for blessing when we have committed one of the greatest sins of the Commandments.

I listen to Brian on the tunes and he's really to far out for me. I'm ok with some stuff but Motown and some new stuff. Peaches is taking me to a Jazz concert she likes jazz as for me I'll most likely go to sleep. I'll make some recommandation for Brian in hopes he'll listen.  I'm starting to like some of the country artist music by the young kids.

If I found the bank gave me anything above 100 dollars I would know it was a mistake and give it back. Once the mistake is found you have to pay it anyway so why bother to try and keep it knowing it's not yours.

I have faith President Obama will pick the right replacement for Justice Souter. At lease Justice Souter is telling the truth that most Americans don't know the three branches of govenment nor how the US govenment works. I asked a teenager how many Supreme Court Justices we had none knew the answer. President Obama has alot of work to do as he now not only has to fix the mess made by Bush but he has to educate the American people and the Law Makers about the United States. No need to teach Fox News reporters their from another planet or so where. I love US History and even World History as it's good to know how and why the United States was founded and how we got most of our laws. Many foreign countries teach US history and that's why we see immigrants come to the US knowing more then US citizens about the USA.

see you same time same place
Good Evening Mr.Holt, Great to see you this Saturday evening for the broadcast. A fine broadcast as always. First of all the report by Mr.Costello concerning the New Chief Administrator at NASA General Charles Bolden. He certainly has immense military experience with flying over 100 missions over Vietnam along with other great military missions. But his career accomplishments as an astronaut, test pilot besides being a great leader of people definitely add to the reason why he is is an excellent choice for Chief of NASA. Hearing him speak is inspiring and I agree with the statement of knowing your stuff, but the most important stuff to know is people. A fine choice for the position.
Relating to NASA, hopefully the space shuttle Atlantis will be able to land tomorrow with good weather. Too many storms in the area of the space center have caused delays. I hope the landing goes safely and smoothly.

The report of so many drugs seized in Afghanistan at over 102tons is good news. Appearing to have success over the war against the militants and their crops od opium. Hopefully, there will be continued success at time goes on.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Allen about students at University of Pennsylvania giving meals to homeless shelters was truly inspiring. The students really seem to be surpassing expectations by the amount of meals given to people who need them. Having over 1000 meals delivered will help out so many people. These students are truly doing great work to help others. Nice piece!

The piece by Mr.Miklasweski about the organization called "Honor Air" that brought the World War II Veterans to Washington,D.C. to thr National World War II Memorial was very heartwarming and reminds us of what Memorial Day is all about. So many seeing the Memorial for the first time seemed so touched and honored by the reception of people. Hearing them speak about their fellow soldiers who kept them alive was inspiring. Very brave and dedicated men and we salute and honor them proudly.
God Bless All Our Brave Men and Women in the Military!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Hope Everyone Has A Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO

What is the name of the veterans group helping WWll
veterans to see the World Warll memorial in Washington, DC? Also, I would like to know where this organization is located in NC and how to get in touch with this group.
PS, Lester, I saw your interview with
Larry King this morning.  Terrfic. And so
was the Jack Nicholson line you delivered.

We're going to the Lake Sunday, and hopefully
it will not be soggy.

Hi again Lester,

I have to say that I didn't know about Gen. Charles Bolden. I've become fascinated by everything that's going on with NASA, because of the Hubble, and there won't be any contact with it in the way there was this time around.
And considering that Gen. Bolden is from Columbia, S.C.(I can't imagine the struggles he's had to go through), I'm going to read more about him.

See you tonight.(Sun.)

Vicki
Lester,
President Obama did the right thing
laying the Wreath on The Confederate
Memorial and also on the African-Americans
in the Civil War which, hopefully,
will unite our country and that may happen
because the majority polled support
the president.
Phyllis Kunz
Lester,
My husband just said you-know-the-guy-you-want-a-free
pass-for, well, he was on Jay Leno with that
interview with Larry King and he told me all about
it, which I'm sorry I missed because it must have
been funny.  I suppose Larry King is not a morning
person.  Anyway, Lester, I am glad I saw your interview with him on Saturday morning. .It was
so interesting.
Phyllis
