If it's Tuesday, it must be London

What a strange sight just now to be in our NBC News London Bureau watching live coverage of the (still relatively new) American President set foot on British soil for the first time.  He arrived at Stansted Airport and immediately boarded a white-topped Blackhawk helicopter (the choppers in the White House fleet are called Nighthawks) for the short flight to London proper.

And if you think the "naming rights" craze is limited to only the United States, consider that the G20 meeting will be held at London's "ExCeL Exhibition Centre" and the President's chopper will use something called the "Red Bull Landing Zone" to come and go. The British press have devoted insane amounts of coverage to the Obama's visit -- and Michelle Obama especially.  This will be interesting to watch, especially if any of the predictions of massive protests and disruptions by anarchists come to pass.  About the auto crisis back home in the U.S., there was much talk about this particular take, which was published while we were in the air.  We'll do our first of several broadcasts from here tonight -- we hope you will join us for our broadcast from London this evening.

G.M restructure plans.

The problem with restructure plans is the ones doing the plans are out to save their jobs at the expense of all those around them while trying to maintain the status quo.  In short, titles change but the basic structure remains the same.

Removing the head of G.M. is a start and if the other execs don't learn a lesson then they too must go.

When will they get tough with Wall Street?
Brian -

How many in the American "delegation"??  Seems like hundreds have made this trip.

Don't know why anyone should feel surprised at the very warm welcome given to the Obamas - remember the first Tuesday in November when America welcomed them as our President and First Lady.  They are truly wonderful ambassadors for America.

And the torch has been passed to a new generation.....

Hi Brian,

It sounds like an exciting time already in London. I hope that your family gets to join you.

Besides having a great president,we have the very best first lady in Michelle Obama. People are so wrapped up in what she's wearing on this trip,I am also. But she's so graceful and brimming with respect for others. Michelle represents our country with class. I've never been so proud of a first family.

What's up with the president of France threatening to throw a hissy fit? I thought he had more class than that. All of the leaders of these countries know that everyone is watching. Now it's time for all the prima donnas to  come out of the wood work.

I hope the demonstrations don't get out of hand,in London or anywhere.

Look forward to your broadcasts this week as always.
I hope you and your crew take some down time.

Good evening, Brian! My how time flies, it's already the evening? Maybe it's because I've been glued to MSNBC most of the day . . .

I hope you're enjoying your time in London. Really hoping this will go well, I think this is so great how President Obama is already in London England working on trying to fix the global economy, when he is still a relatively new President. He sure doesn't waste time, and what could be bad about that?

Also, I'm really hoping Ford will come out of this okay, having heard they haven't been doing too great. After all, Ford is THE American car company to me. My mom owns a Ford Mustang (Note: Not the newer Mustang based on the very first Ford Mustangs from the 1960s, which has just happened to be my all time favorite car for the past few years. I much rather prefer the classics.)

Have a great evening!

We'll see you soon,
-Cary
Brian your right it will be interesting to see how the people in the UK react to President Obama's first visit. Side note Michelle really looked nice loved the dress. Now as for the UK they have a coin made like President Obama so who knew?

Nothing much back here at home some thing going on with talk about the Auto Industry. Now Ford is the smartest of them all. Ford would be smart to open planets in Ohio and Michigan and hire those layed off experienced workers. Henry Ford would be proud.

Brian question here?  Why isn't the news reporting on the Coleman case as now the Judges are making their final decision. Let me catch you up. Coleman is behind by some 200 votes Al Franken. Now there are 400 votes left the court approved to be counted. Likely that Norm Coleman will lose. John Boehner wants to take this all the way to the Supreme Court which will take years just so Al Franken can't get the Senate seat as the Dems total would be 59. Now I do feel bad for the people of Minn. as they don't have one Rep. to help with the problems their having. If Boehner does support the appeal that long the people will be the losers. This is an important race and should be followed by the Media.

Iran and US hold 'cordial' talks and Hillary is doing a great job. Who knew this could happen with all the hate talk that's been going on for 8 years that finally with a real repspect President and an educated Secretary of State we just might see a little glimmer of peace.

I read some comments on BBC and so far the people seem pleased with Obama's visit we'll see what happen when the G-20 Summit begins.

See you same time same place
The nightly news has turned into nothing more than an opportunity for Obama to have his own variety show and every night the same thing with the horrific news the economy is psychotic!!  The best news to me is when I consider the cost of my education compared to those ivey leaguers. Every night and day we hear the same thing again and again.  The only thing that is perpetuating the entire monster is American pride.  If we turn and walk away from it all and say so be it, it will simply correct itself.  If we all just stop going to work I imagine somebody would come up with some realistic answers. Every since big pharmaceutical started prescribing anti depressants and anti anxiety meds like candy, inhibitions have been down and so has good judgement.  Maybe that's the reality check of how we got here.  Way too much altered mental status in our midst.
I just finished watching the Tuesday evening news.  I was disappointed with 2 things.  One was the repeated use of Mr. Obama rather than Mr. President or President Obama.  The second was the reference to "The Secretary" traveling rather than "The Secretary of State". I don't know for sure what is proper but it seemed to me, that the reference was too casual.  Please ask those that report to show the utmost of respect for our leaders, people and leaders around the world are watching and measuring our words and actions. Brian Williams you always show respect and I really appreciate that. My son is deployed with the Army and your respect and coverage of the military is appreciated.
Brian,
Great story about the EPA doing air quality studies around schools to check for chemicals. These areas must be cleaned up so these little tikes can grow up healthy as they are going to have to work into their 90's to help pay off this massive debt that is being loaded onto their shoulders.
Ragards,
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Nice to see you in London for the broadcast. I liked seeing the tower bridge at night it was very pretty all lit up. A fine broadcast as always. First of all the report by Mr.Todd outside Buckingham Palace showed that President Obama will definitely be the main focus during this G-20 Summit. It is surprising the President and the other world leaders are only spending a short time together meeting about the global economic crisis which would seem to call for a longer time. It will be nice for the President to meet with Queen Elizabeth tomorrow because it will be the first time to speak to eachother and discuss issues. I'm sure President Obama will be clear and show leadership of this crisis and I hope between all the leaders some important ground covered.
On another note the report by Andrea Mitchell from The Hague showed Secretary of State Clinton on a mission of diplomancy discussing relations with Iran and Russia. Overcoming negativity and coming to a peaceful agreement especially over missle defense is vital. All these meetings moving a a fast pace.
Even with President Obama travelling to other nations as well during his trip.
One hopes progress is being made.

The report by Mr.Maceda concerning economic problems is Hungary and Spain proves how so many people have been effected by economic downturns. Hearing that Budapest might go bankrupt and people are cutting back on food is disturbing while Spain built up too much with condos and other things people aren't buying is terrible for the region. All that beautiful white marble being left at the quarry because demand is low is sad leaving many out of work.

In the long run one hopes things will turn for the better for everyone.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Chris Jansing was extremely touching. The brave US Marine Trevor Johnson losing his life in battle and leaving his young 24year old wife Nicole a widow with two young children brings tears. Seeing the military honor burial brings tears because of the beautiful family he leaves behind. Those two businessmen who decided to raise money for the children of these families to attend college is wonderful. The "Grateful Nation" is doing such a great thing by allowing the students to go on tours, meet with professors and all the tools for a future in college. These two men realized the government was not taking care if these families who had made the ultimate sacrifice and gave the children sense of a promising future.
Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. See you again tomorrow from London. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
Brian,

Of all of your viewers, I promise you there wasn't a dry eye at the end of your broadcast tonight. Thank you so much for sharing her story with us. It left us with a whole different feeling than most of your "Making A Difference" stories usually have, but made me realize there are so many other families going through this all over our nation. I continue to keep all of our United States troops in my prayers each night, and hope that they will some day soon return home safetly to their families.

Thank you for the great broadcast tonight.

See you on the big day tomorrow!
Take care,
-Cary
Brian,
Forgot to mention in my first post. It has really just come to light why our taxes must be raised so high. None of the democrates pay taxes!!!!!!!
Regards,
The Making a Difference story tonight was very touching and really hit home for me.  My husband was also a Marine who died on active duty.  Watching the burial brought back many memories.  It's wonderful that there are people out there who want to help Sgt. Johnson's family and help provide for their children's college education.  However, I do not agree with the statement that was made "These two men realized the government was not taking care of these families who had made the ultimate sacrifice".
The US Marine Corp as well as the other branches of the military have many death benefits that will provide for Sgt. Johnsons family.  Yes, Sgt. Johnson made the ultimate sacrifice for his country but the military takes care of the families that are left behind. Unfortunately I know this from experience.  Sgt. Johnsons children and his wife Nicole will benefit from an education benefit that will help pay towards their college tuition.  That is one of many benefits that they will receive from the US Government because of the loss of their husband/father.  I felt that I needed to say something because this story put a negative spin on how the military doesn't take care of the families that are left behind which couldn't be further from the truth.
Hi Brian,
It was another great broadcast last night from London. The "Making a Difference Story" was so very poignant. I was also very interested in the medical segement about kidney stones because I have a 9 year old Amanda who dances, swims and skates, loves French Fries and Powerade. I think she drinks a fair amount of water, fruits and vegetables but it was very eye opening. She only weighs 60 pounds so I never really think about french fries and calories.
I was quite excited to see Winnipeg and the floodway, that I had written of in Monday's blog to you, mentioned in the broadcat on Tuesday night. There were pictures of it being built and how it works. The floodway, when it is not filled with water during the months of April, May and June is a great place to go sledding because of the high sides and off-roading in the summer and Fall (not that I have ever done the latter.)It also makes for a great science fair project for the kids. The floodway protects this city very well. At the time it was built it met with great opposition because of the cost. The premier of the province at the time was a fellow named Duff Roblin. He really pushed for it and the floodway is now affectionately called "Duff's Ditch".
I enjoyed seeing you and your wife on The Bonnie Hunt Show-saw it on YouTube. Your wife is a very good sport and quite the actress. She reminded me of Mary Tyler Moore.
Well I will go watch you on the Today show when it airs from Seattle at 10 am. I also saw The Today Show on YouTube when you and Matt were the hosts for the morning when Meredith was away. That YouTube is fabulous and to think that less than 2 years ago when the clerk in Blockbuster said "YouTube" I didn't have a clue as to what he meant.....U2 ? I said ;)
Enjoy your time in London. I hope that your weather is pleasant. It is still snowing here and in Grand Forks/Fargo. This is not good news nor an April Fool's Day joke.
HI Brian

Glad to see you made it to the UK safely.

I am very interested in seeing how the people in the UK relate to the President not only for the beginning of the summit but how they feel when he leaves.  It is a shame that the time the leaders will have to spend together is so minimal.  I hope something good comes of this.

I am glad that the EPA is doing something about the air quality for our schools.  These kids are our future and we need them healthy.

As usual your "Making a Difference" segment touched everyone in so many ways.  You have made such an imapct on everyone with this segment.  I witnessed a very wonderful act of kindness.  A cashier at our local grocery store was checking out a young man with 2 small children.  When it came time to pay is $9.60 bill his ATM card was denied and so was his credit card.  He apologized and told her he had been out of work for 3 months and did not realize there was no money left.  You could see the kids were hungry. She bagged his groceries and gave them to him even as he protested.  She took the money from her pocket and put it in the register.  When I got to her I told her that what she did was so loving.  She told me that she had seen your segment and was so grateful that she still had a job that she had to do something to make a difference for someone else.  I was also told by another cashier that she has done this in the past.  I then bought 3 food gift cards and took them to our local food kitchen and told them to give them to people that really needed help.  Yes, Brian, your segment has made a differnce for so many people.  You are "AWESOME".

Can't wait to see your broadcast tonight.

When Americans play that great London stage they
generally make fools of themselves. The Dixie Chicks are one example of shooting themselves in the foot and killing off most of their career. They sold 26 million records until the infamous Bush statement. After that they sold 4 million more. Concerts cancelled. Death threats.

Let's hope Obama doesn't try to pull some political stunt that would enrage the UK public and those around the world. He is already taking much heat overseas. Let's hope the protests don't wear him out.

After all, 40 to 45% of the population in America don't think much of him either.
BRIAN
I TYPICALLY DON'T ASK QUESTIONS OF THIS NATURE BEYOND MY LIVING
ROOM BUT.......IS ANYONE THINKING THAT PERHAPS SOMEONE SHOULD TEACH MICHELLE OBAMA HOW TO WALK A LITTLE LESS LUMBERING?  SHE IS ALL THE THINGS YOU SAY INTELLIGENT, LOVELY, STYLISH ETC. BUT THAT WALK. IS THERE A PAST INJURY OR SOMETHING?
Michelle Obama is NO Jackie O, not even close. Who would wear a skirt and sweater to 10 Downing (a wrinkled one at that)? and would someone PLEASE teach this woman how to walk like a lady. Also, please remind her that an above the knee dress coming down the steps of Airforce One shows half way up her thighs!
Brian,
My mom in New Mexico heard something about giving automobiles to deserving people. Did she hear right? Can you send me the information?
