The talented folks at the Onion have put together a reminder of a time long ago -- a simpler time -- and it is must-viewing.

We are focusing more and more attention on the Red River -- it is crunch time for the folks who live along its banks -- and we received an email today from a viewer asking us to request prayers on the air -- it was further proof that the situation there is getting dire.

We'll have an update again tonight -- and all the rest of the day's news -- including an uplifting and terrific "Making A Difference" report sent to us by a Nightly News viewer in Massachusetts. We hope you can join us.

Evening, Brian!

Thank you for the laugh you sent us from 'the Onion', they are so great and never fail to make me laugh or surpise me with whatever they come up with.

Also, thank you for the wonderful broadcast last night. I didn't get to watching til later last night as I was visiting family during the broadcast. It was wonderful, and again congratulations to John Finn. What an amazing man. I wonder what took so long for him to get this kind of appriciation, he absolutely deserved this many years ago. But as you said, all of it certainly made up for the time lost. God Bless him!

All of this overwhelming help in North Dakota from people all over who just want to get in there and help eachother is just absolutely incredible, and so inspiring. Seeing the clips of everyone working so hard together for eachother, I wish there was a way I could get myself over there to throw in my help.

I'm looking forward to the uplifting "Making A Difference" report tonight. Thank you again, for all of these wonderful stories you're highlighting for us!

See you at 6:30! Have a great evening, and take care!
-Cary

P.S. Also, I finally caught up this afternoon on your interview with Bonnie Hunt over your vacation. Marvelous interview! (and yes, I know that word).
God Bless you and your beautiful family! Including Lucy of course, it was great to see her! She looks so sweet. It made me grab a hug from your boy, Charlie Brown. Thanks for all the laughs as well!
Brian:

What are the chances that once you retire from NBC, you'll follow CNN's Bobbi Batista and do occasional gigs for the Onion?

(On second thought, why wait until retirement?)
Hi Brian I saw the Town Hall today on MSNBC website, it's like I'm living in the Jetson's Age and no longer the Fintstones. Some viewers commented the questions were stupid but I remembered being told not to ask your question makes you stupid. All this is new to Americans who haven't been able to ask the President anything but are told after he decides what he wanted.

I head the Republican Road to Recovery which is clearly the same road Bush has taken for 8 years. Looks like Republican Economic & Budget Adviser Joe the Plummer has more work to do. Looks like the 6th Beatle Peter Orszag is standing alone with the only good plan for our Economic & Budget Recovery. Tim Geithner is kicking butt and his website is up dated everyday just for us. I'm beginning to like Econics.

Yes the Stock Maket was up again and we're moving in the right direction. Even out hear in California people are beginning to have hope. All this reminds me of Marvin Gaye's song What's going on.

I hope President Obama helps the people in Miss. and Minn. as they pay taxes too and should get help when they need it.  I guess that's why the President said we need to have a little money put away for situtions just like these. Our Govenor spent our emergency money on wasteful spending with his out door smoking area. He had to have that cigar and we have a State Law of no smoking in State buildings.

see you same time same place
OK Brian--a must-read for you: MSNBC.com has "Dogs (not chimps) most like humans". (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/298956141)which may explain a lot of your behavior! (Just teasing!)

Hello and take care to all the usual suspects.
Brian: Nice find at the Onion.  I hope the next video isn't about the Newseum becoming a memorial to newspapers. It's hard to think of another industry with such a long history enduring such a rapid downfall.
i have been a devotee of nbc nightly news my entire news-watching life.  my day was not complete until i had dinner with john chancellor, tom brokaw and now brian williams.
this is the first post for me and i wanted to thank you all for including good news each night.  the stories about people making a difference are inspiring and energizing in this era of bad news, bad news and more bad news.
keep 'em coming.  what it means is that YOU are making a difference.  with great admiration and respect,....
Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine broadcast this evening as always. First of all the report by Mr.Tibbles from Moorehead,Minnesota concerning the rising waters of the Red River certainly is an extremely dire situation for all the residents. All the people working tirelessly to fill sandbags and pile them along the banks I hope it holds well. Many people will definitely need to evacuate such as the elderly from nursing homes. Mother nature has a way controlling the outcome and one really hopes the cresting of the river won't be as bad as predicted. Time will tell. I hope everyone remains safe and dry.

On another note the report by Mr.Miklasweski about the new strategy in Afghanistan hopefully will protect against attacks. Refocusing the troops mission to fight al-qaeda and excelerate the training of the security forces should bring positive results, yet time is of the essence. With 17,000 more troops being deployed to the region this will be a long term committment by the United States and it seems the commanders never have enough troops to aid in the mission. An endless battle, but one still hopes for a peaceful resolution.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Amy Robach was another example of goodwill towards others. The owner of the hair salon giving free hair cuts and styles to people looking for jobs is a wonderful idea and makes people feel great too. Handing out the coupons to clients is a great way for the customer to save money, plus the owner is giving of her time. I like the fact donations are made to the food pantry in her name. Paying it Forward! Everyone benefits and people feel good! Another great good news piece!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
The folks in Minn. and No.Dak are truly great Americna's. No whinning and expecting the Gov. to bail them out. Just decent people working hard to help each other. Unlike the chaous and media blaming Bush during Katrina. Horray for the "Gophers"
With the situation in North Dakota and what transpired in Kentucky a few weeks ago with the ice storm and electric outages, it makes me wonder-where is Nobama?

If 43 were still the President, these situations would all be blamed on him. Why is the current Present getting a pass?

I forgot, he was the media's candidate and now the media's Present. Fine job you're all doing!

For years I heard "Bush lied, people died". Well, I have one for you "Nobama lied, the economy died."
