Dear David,

Please, no more about AIG, or Fannie and Freddie and all of these bonuses!  We know by now that these companies and our elected officials have long engaged in what amounts to an incestuous relationship, since Wall Street has the deep pockets with which to finance campaigns.  All this moral outrage is really quite disingenuous, and frankly, I am sick of hearing about it.  Wall Street is corrupt.  Our federal government is incompetent.  The taxpayers got screwed.  Is this really news?  What upsets me is the dearth of news today about Iraq – on this, the sixth anniversary of the commencement of the war there.  More than 4,200 of our men and women have died there, as well as countless innocent civilians.  We should not be talking about greedy CEOs today.  We should be talking about the brave members of our military.

The Bush Administration signed the order for bonueses and Hank Paulson followed it. Now it is interesting no one remembers that but accuse the Obama Administration. Not one person asked a question to Hank Paulson who he openly robbed the taxpayers blind but here comes the blame game. At lease we now have a President that takes and admits responsibility. As the people of California thanked the President for his service knowing he worked even before he took office on our behalf. Jan. 26th Tim Geithner was sworn in office, the Bill allowing bonueses was signed and approved Oct. 3, 2008. I guess many reporters and Law Makers just for got.

The Law Makers and some reporters should watch the tapes School House Rock to learn how the US Govenment is run and how Bill's are passed. Many seem to think our Govenment is run like it has been for the pass 8 years with a President not following the Constitution. President Obama sounds more like a history teacher who talking to reporters and fellow Law Makers. One question asked to President Obama was will he run for President. His answer was " right now he's an employee of the American people, the the people will decide if he will run again by what he does on the job".  Finally a President for the people again and not one who is a Dictator and works for Wall Street.

Good news for Jay Leno and NBC as the ratings should be real good today. NBC and GE need all the help they can get as Cramer and Santelli acting like looneys. Now CNBC has Kudlow committing a crime live on TV by burning money will the lawyers at GE know is a Federal Crime. What next and how long can other shows hold CNBC up.  It's all about trust and both AIG and CNBC are no longer seen as honest or trustfull to the public.

Where's Brian Williams and is he alright? Let the viewers know we look to him for fair/balanced/honest reporting as was done by Edward R. Murrow. Brian is Nightly News and that's why most of us watch faithfully.

Instead of giving away millions of dollars to a bunch of narsistic parasitic sociopaths, give the money to the American people. This would be the stimulus that is needed because it would enable people to buy the goods and services they need.  Also, limit income of to those in charge of the financial well being of America (banks, Wall Street, and insurance companies). Our jobs and how much we make are horrible. The wealthy sector and politics have formed a cozy relationship much like a prostitute and her client.

Where is Brian?

I just finished watching Nightly News. I am really upset that you chose to forgo reporting on JD Powers' naming of the two most reliable cars for 2009: Buick and Jaguar, bumping Lexus out of first place. You are always quick to slam Detroit, I think it unconscionable to ignore a bit of positive news.  

Where is Brian? I miss him.

Good Evening Mr.Gregory, Nice to see you again this evening filling in for Mr.Williams. Another fine broadcast as always. First of all the report by Mr.Fletcher concerning Israel and the Palestinians regarding the war in Gaza. It is sad to see all the destruction caused by the tanks,bombs and other explosions around the city of Gaza. It is shocking to think the soldiers destroyed homes deliberately and felt no remorse for killing innocent civilians. If the soliers were pressured by the commanders into doing these actions then an investigation should be done to find out what happened. It is inexusable to deliberately kill any innocent civilian, but  especially an elderly woman and innocent young children. It is just wrong.
On another note it is extremely tragic the death of Natasha Richardson. So very young and she had such talent with a wonderful husband Liam Neeson and two great sons it is so very sad. Hearing the report by Dr.Nancy Snyderman about the cause of death simply brings to mind how cautious one must be on these slopes. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends and this time. So very tragic.

It was nice to see President Obama visiting that high school due to seeing their You Tube video. This economic crisis has affected everyone and hearing the high school students speak about their situations is brings it all into perspective. Hopefully, things will take a turn for the better soon.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Mott about the movie theater giving a free night at the movies was just wonderful. Everyone has a great time while not having to spend anything! Something fun for everyone! Another inspiring piece!

Hi David; its good to see you take a turn at the chair, as always.

I do not know why we would want to disclose the names of those who received bonuses.  I just don't trust the legions of Americans who are angry and fed up.  Releasing those names to the public is paramount to putting them before a firing squad.  I'm also not sure that taxing the money is a good idea, either.  That seems to set a bigger president than giving banks bailout money in the first place.  

Learning of Natasha Richardson's death brought me back to that moment years ago when I learned that Princess Diana had died.  I feel most sadness for the young sons they leave behind.  My heart goes out to them, and their father.  There's a reason we call them 'accidents' but it doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye to someone in the prime of life.

Happy Thursday everyone!  Is there anything else going on other than March Madness?  That's all I've heard about today!

It would seem to me if you wanted to revitalize the economy then provide the low and middle class income families that file their federal income tax a tax free bonus of $100 - $250K. These folks would most likely use the money to payoff their mortgages, credit cards, vehicle(s), buy new vehicle(s), re-invest, etc., which would have a greater affect on the economy then trying to bail out a financial institution or automaker(s).

Those young people in dire need of someones help probably weren't even expecting a reply from the President of the United States, and just look what came out of reaching out for help. Just wonderful! Brian,  I know you missed the last two evenings of Nightly News for me. tesa

Instead of Congress wasting time passing legislation to tax corporate bonuses that is transparently unconstitutional, it would be nice to see the legislators put their time, energy and minds (assuming they are so equipped and sometimes I wonder) to finding some way to hold the corporate thieves accountable. I would suggest exploring the possibility of fraud. Congressmen--the public is not going to be satisfied with meaningless gestures.

Anna--nice sentiment you expressed last night which I think is amply demonstrated by the posters on this blog who are remarkably open to, tolerant of, and willing to learn from those of varying opinions. And we do it with civility! Think maybe we are ahead of the curve?!!

Martin Fletcher--excellent report.....as always. Thank you, and good to hear from you. If you read this blog you will have noted we do miss your reports when you are absent for a time. And that is a very big hint to the NBC News producers!

Brian--You OK? Family OK? A shout-out would be welcome. We DO worry.

The blame game is and will always be part of politics. Politicians and those who of us who care sometimes have very poor memories or choose to only see that which benefits our particular position. For intance, many news outlets are running stories about the new Iraq; how people are prospering, how the museum is again open, how there is peace and democracy in major parts of the country. However, not ONE has even considered the possibility that the Bush administration's action might still proove to be right.  

Nothing changes....

I miss Brian Williams and frankly David Gregory is a slap in the face. To anyone who trusted Meet the Press as absolutely unbiased for 16 delightful years of Tim Russert it is bad enough to have to avoid Meet the Republican every Sunday morning.  Reminding us of this most tragic loss on a nightly basis is just mean.

I am so sick of hearnig about all the bailouts for the big banks and Wall Street. Would someone please ask President Obama waht he is doing for us graulr folks. I was laid of of my job of 27 years because my company moved to mexico last year. I am over my head in debt and out of work 51 year old single mother with 2 children. I will need that money in my 401k to support my family. It is a shame I have to pay a penalty. I am having a tough time just buying groceries and have 100,000 sitting in a 401k. Candidate Obama promised we would be able to remove money from our 401k's without penalty. Would someone in the press PLEASE ask him why this campaign promise has not been followed through on!

We need to move on from the retention bonuses and start dealing with the real problem which is the banking system. The Fed (which is not a federal bank at all), the national banks of other countries (again not nationaly owned) and the World bank are the root cause for the downslide of the economy. Start looking to the past to find the answers. There is a program floating around on MN PACTTV called Money Masters; How International Banking Gained Control of Corporate America. It will shock you.
