Obama vows to fight for his budget

Posted: Saturday, February 28, 2009 5:08 PM by Ian Sager

By Peter Alexander, NBC News correspondent

When it comes to getting his ambitious $3.5 trillion budget passed through Congress, President Obama is hoping for better success than his hometown basketball team, the Chicago Bulls, had on the court last evening. The president spent his Friday night out, witnessing the Bulls get beaten by the Washington Wizards. Our White House correspondent John Yang will be on the broadcast tonight to tell us about how the president is preparing for battle with powerful lobbyists and special interest groups. We'll also bring in CNBC's Scott Wapner to address the growing economic crisis.

David Gregory, the moderator of "Meet the Press," will join us with details of his exclusive interview with Defense Secretary Robert Gates. It's Gates' first public comments since President Obama announced his plans to remove American combat troops by the end of August, 2010, and the rest by the end of 2011.

After a series of tornados in Alabama today (thankfully, no serious injuries reported at last check), we'll speak to meteorologist Carl Parker at The Weather Channel about a potentially significant weather system sweeping into the East coast.

Also tonight, we’ll have another installment of our series, "Seeking Solutions." I'll introduce you to a unique court program that's helping homeowners fight foreclosure by bringing them face-to-face with lenders and the Philadelphia judge who came up with the idea in an effort "to right this ship."

Finally, a travel warning tonight for Spring Breakers making plans to head south of the border. We'll show you what some colleges and universities are doing to get students to reconsider their trips.

I'm filling in for Lester, who's off tonight. Hope you'll join us.

Dear Peter,

Well, at least the Wizards win occasionally.  They'll always be the Bullets to me.  :)

Looking forward to seeing you on the broadcast.  You always do a nice job.

Good night to the usual suspects!  XOXO
The University of Virginia released a study that said 87 percent of housing value loss is taking place in just four states California, Florida, Arizona and Nevada. States had control over who could go from burger flipper to mortgage broker.
Now taxpayers are having bail out Clinton's failed treasury secretary Robert Rubin's bank Citigroup. The current "Regime" (fun to use that back at Liberals) is full of Rubin protégés like Timothy Geithner, Lawrence Summers Peter Orszag, & Michael Froman. We're suppose to "feel good" about all this? How about those 5 Nobel Prize winners who designed the credit rating systems? Are they lurking around helping the Obama Admistration too? Has Barney Franks, or John Kerry demanded Rubin give back any money? I still think all these arms of the Socialist party (wealthy college endowments, state employee pension funds, their filthy rich hedge fund buddies) intentionally drove up oil prices in 2007 starting this ball rolling. We need a RICO investigation into the democrat party. Maybe after 2010 :-)
I just watched the evening segment with Peter Alexander and David Gregory whining about the proposed budget deficit and the "largest transfer of wealth" in some time.  Depending upon whose dictionary one uses, some of us define the proposed reforms as simply a return to "ethical business practices."
Good Evening Mr.Alexander, Nice to see you this evening filling in for Mr.Holt. First of all Mr. Gregory speaking about Secretary Robert Gates on the exit strategy from Iraq. The deadlines given by President Obama of August 31,2010 of some troop withdrawal and all of the troops out by the end of 2011 could be hard goals if the situation worsens in the country. There will be of course some troops remaining, but as stated in the report certain things like low levels of violence are critical to how many troops stay. Hopefully, the situation will remain at low levels of violence because things have improved alot. Yet, it does focus on the decision of the commanders on the ground who know best. Time will tell as the months progress. It will be interesting to hear what Secretary Gates has to say on "Meet the Press" on Sunday.
On another note the storm watch for the eastern part of the country is showing signs of snow and wind. Here in Georgia there are predictions of some accumulation of snow tomorrow evening into Mondat morning with temperatures below freezing. Although it doesn't last all that long I hope those living in the Northeast don't receive too much snow and stay warm and safe.
The segment called "Seeking Solutions" showed a program in Philadelphia that works in allowing homeowners to meet with lenders and work out a solution to paying their mortage. So many people helped to stay in their homes is promising news. The judge had a good idea for her community.

The piece by Ian Williams about the farmer who invents robots was fun to watch. Those robots are unusual to see going up walls and around the property. He does seem to be attracting attention so maybe he will have bigger success.

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Alexander.Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard! Great to see you on the Rachel Maddow Show last evening! Excellent Reporting!

Like many people, and FriendFeed accounts. I will not forget the daily diet is not, throw the 11 web services. With time, other people I will have my E-mail newsletter service, and many other ideas, I will be sent to this service. This is the main service that we are not sorry.
Hi Peter
It's always amazing to see for 8 years our President didn't fight or even listen to the American people and now we see President Obama is having to fight for us. I thought the elected Law Makers were suppose to fight for the people they represent as I see they fight for Wall Street and Big Business. I've visited the White House website to see just how the Stimulus bill works. These young people are so smart with computers.

Best to my friends Lisa, Laurel, Stephanie, Claudia, Celine, Lori, Anna and Matt
I only had time to briefly pause to watch Nightly last night, but from what I saw, you were doing a fine job at the desk, Peter!
Peter,
Could not help but take note that you could devote time in the Sat evening newscast to a Chinese farmer building primitive robots and to inform college students not to travel to Mexico but had not 5 seconds to mention any of the many TEA PARTIES that took place across the country. Shame on you and NBC for only carrying the Obama message.
Is this the way it is now being taught in our government run universities?
Regards,
Thrill up my leg!!!!
According to the Daily Kos website, Playboy has published an investigative report that strongly suggests that CNBC's Rick Santelli deliberately fabricated his highly publicized rant attacking the President's efforts to help troubled homeowners. Since the rant was rebroadcast on NBC, is there any legal jeopardy if the Playboy article is substantiated? Is NBC going to sue Playboy?
PLEASE, can someone explain to me - WHY, everytime
a state government CANNOT control its own budget,
does it make it the responsibility of the tax payer
to cover their errors!!!   Yet these SAME officials -
are the ones making the BIG bucks for a job well-done.
Before long - 50% of all income will be going to cover taxes......its already high now.  By the time you are taxed prior to receiving your money - then taxed again - each time you spend - then taxed again
because of where you live - your house - your car -
your food........its probably already at the 75% mark.
The people making the big-bucks continue to roll in money - BECAUSE they are the supposed best - but isn't it amazing just HOW bad of a job they really do.
Unfortunately - ALL of their error's - fall, yet again - back to the average tax payer....
This HAS to stop at some point in time - or every average american will be receiving Federal assistance, simply because we have, ourselves, been
taxed to death.
