A sucker for all things super

Because my team, the New York Giants, is not in this year's Super Bowl, it holds far less magic in our household. My son and I will be watching nonetheless -- especially to see Bruce at halftime. The folks at NBC Sports were nice enough to ask me to record my thoughts about Bruce, (specifically my first encounter with him growing up on the Jersey Shore) which will air during the pre-game show tomorrow. I'm also a sucker for the commercials. I'll be rooting for the Steelers for old time's sake. I was a huge Jack Lambert fan in the old days -- he's why I wanted to play linebacker in High School, and I wish I could have played it better. I loved Dwight White and L.C. Greenwood and the entire team of that era. I love the City of Pittsburgh, and was once told that of all the NFL markets, more televisions are tuned to Steelers games in Pittsburgh by percentage than the percentage watching the home team in any other NFL City. They love their team and I like their chances, even against Warner and the formidable Cardinals. Did I mention, like a good politician, that I also love Arizona...and all birds?

We've got a lot of news to cover before we can begin thinking about the game. I hope you can join us tonight, and have a great weekend.

Did I mention, like a good politician, that I also love Arizona...and all birds?  (as long as they are democrat birds)

I have a hard time believing that Green Bay doesn't have a higher percentage of sets tuned in to their games... gimme some data!
It's early and yes Brian I to will be watching the Super Bowel while wearing my number 10 Jersey for MY TEAM the NJ Giants. Just call me Jackie Manning.

Word is out that Michael Steele aka Alderman Fred Davis got the top job for the RNC. It's no fun when you already know the plot and the ending.  Who know Rush might have been a better choice this time or even John Boehner who keeps a tan year round.

I asked a friend if she would reward her child for getting all F's on his report card she laughed. I said they give out billions in bonuses to those top executives who fail. It's good to work on Wall Street these days but bad to just be a hard working American.

I expect Iraq and Afghanstan will have new Leaders with the new Elections. Just as we've seen other countries pick new Leaders. Change is needed all over the World not just the USA.

see you same time same place
Have a great weekend all

Dear Brian,

I can't get too excited about the Super Bowl, either.  My Redskins tanked this season.  I guess I should root for the Cardinals, since they are the NFC team, and the underdog...  I'm really only looking forward to Matt Lauer's live interview of President Obama, and to Jennifer Hudson's rendition of our national anthem.  God bless her.

I finally finished watching my tape of your appearance on Letterman.  Boy, that Ben Kweller kid who performed right after you was terrific!  I'm going to check out his CD.  His voice has shades of Dylan, in my opinion.

On a personal note, I learned today that my high school algebra teacher passed away on Tuesday at the age of 72.  He was one of my favorite teachers from all of my schooling.  In more recent years, I saw him on primary and general election days, where he was working the polls.  (He was usually the person who handed me my, "I voted," sticker.)  I just saw him on November 4th.  I am just so grateful that he lived long enough to see our nation's first African American president sworn in.  What a blessing.  R.I.P. Ben Simmons.

Have a good weekend, all.  Lots of love.  XOXO
P.S. Jackie:

Here is my recommendation for something to see when you're in the D.C. area this summer.  It's an exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History.

Dr. Doug Owsley is a genius.

Also, tonight, C-SPAN2 is carrying Bill Clinton and Vladimir Putin's remarks from the World Economic Forum.  I think it's on at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
Go Pittsburgh.
Well Brian, it is good to know you like Arizona and all Birds....

I hope you enjoy the game this weekend!

Good Evening Mr.Williams, A great broadcast this evening. Always wonderful to see Richard on the broadcast! (Always handsome! Wearing a great blue shirt!) Richard's report about the elections in Iraq certainly exhibit big changes. Learning that a 1/4 of the candidates are women and that if elected will have some power is a huge milestone. The woman running going door to door giving out flyers and handing them out on the street shows much determination in trying to make a difference. She seems to give so much to the poor families of the region and sees services needing drastic improvement. I'm sure the people view her like Mother Theresa. Having her picture on posters even though some were damaged is something not seen before in Baghdad. The government needs the 25% quota and so therefore women need to be elected into office. As Richard asked her will women be able to exercise power and hearing her say yes was encouraging. It was nice to see them walking along in the park along the Tigris without the threat of violence. It is an uphill battle, but strides are being made. This Saturday's elections will be crucial to the country.
Always Great Reporting Richard! Please Stay Extra Safe Always!!

On another note the report on the economic crisis by Mr.Cohn was definitely grim with huge losses. The numbers were staggering and so many people are struggling.
The report by Mr.Todd concerning President Obama and Vice President Biden making good on the promise to help the middle class shows how it needs to be worked on swiftly with differences and divisions settled. It is a tough road. I hope good news comes soon.

Regarding the ice storm I really hope power is returned quickly to all those suffering in the frigid temperatures.

Nice to see the Empire State Building lit in both colors of the teams playing in the Super Bowl.

The "Making A Difference" segment by Mr.Rossen showed how one man starting with nothing able to help so many people in all sorts of areas was truly inspirational. What great work!

Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Have a great weekend! Enjoy the Super Bowl with your son! Always wonderful to see you Richard! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe And Well Richard! Great Reporting!
XOXO
For all the hype and excitement around this city with the anticipation of a "6-pack" city, Pittsburgh is ever mindfull of the service men and women both here and abroad who make this a free nation and the Super Bowl a possibility.  To them we say thank you.  If I could I would mail you all a terrible towel to cheer on our Pittsburgh Steelers.  GO STEELERS!!!
Hi, Brian! Unfortunately I missed tonights Nightly News! Out grocery shopping all afternoon, and to my luck our DVR was completely full so I'll have to watch tonight on MSNBC.com, thank you all for having that available! It's a life-saver.

I'm pretty sure I will be rooting for the Cardinals this year, sort of going for the underdog. Not saying that the Cardinals aren't as good as the Steelers though. I'm more of a college football fan myself (VT Hokies!), so really whoever wins I will be happy for them!

The halftime will be great! How could it not be, Bruce Springsteen! Looking forward to the Pre-game, and also Matt Lauer's interview with Barack Obama an hour before the game. I wonder if the President will let Matt watch the game with him or if he will have to get on the plane during kick-off, like he talked about during his visit on Conan.

I hope you and your family have a great time watching the Super Bowl this weekend!

Take Care!

Brian, I think Lisa likes Richard.  It is always nice to read your post.  It eases the trouble of the night.  We lost a dog....not mine but Brittneys (roommate)I have been outside since 5:00 looking for "Chance"  I lost Carmen before and it isn't funny.  Another thing, my other roommate was going to check her e-mail on my computer and ended up installing My space, a new server and now, it takes all the patients that I can wip up......saying it doesn't want to work. But the good news is I went shopping and bought a $69 pair of Pajamas for $14.95. They went on sale today. Actually, I am upset about Brittney losing her buddy. We posted signs around the neighborhood.

I am glad that the Super Bowl is Sunday. My favorite team was the Steelers when Lynn Swan (another bird) used to play wide receiver.  Have fun watching...you and your 'son'- I learn something new everyday.

Have fun; Rest-up for next week betwixt all the excitment. tesa
Brian, My cable was out for a few hours this morning so I listened to the radio, which I don't normally do during the day. I happen to listen to the Glen Beck show and I can't tell you how frustrated I was to hear the terrible negative things he was saying, including something about you and your broadcast about the environment. He was particularly negative about NBC and MSNBC (I have tried watching other cable news, but I love watching MSNBC, especially during the presidential campaign). Obama has only been in office a few short days, and already some people are expecting miracles.  I believe these conservative talk show hosts do more harm than good. In these difficult times, it doesn't do any good to rile up their listening audience. Everyone is not going to agree on everything and if you don't agree with policy why not communicate in a more civil manner instead of trying to split the country.  Obama is trying hard to reach out to both parties so they ought to give him a chance. We have to be patient...it took 8 years for this country to get into this mess and it's going to take a while before we see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Hello Brian,

Take a moment, if you would, and take one more look at the photo that accompanies your report on the Madoff impact.  Now just mentally slide off those pricey spectacles and who does that look like?
Rather ironic, wouldn't you agree, that the man who stole 50 billion of them is the spitting image of the man on the $1 bill? Perhaps if you have a spare moment on the broadcast you could include them in one of those "Separated at Birth" features....with no disrespect, of course, to the father of our country.
While it's true that Nightly News showed a photo of the wrong James Brady during Wednesday's story on Mr. Brady's passing, I must say that I'm nevertheless very impressed with NBC.  At least they managed to spell Mr. Brady's name correctly.  Keep up the good work!
