A long weekend comes to an end

By Amy Robach, NBC News anchor

Thanks for checking in everyone, I'm sitting in for Lester Holt this evening. It's been a long, busy weekend.  We'll be following the latest from Mumbai, where we're hearing tonight for the first time from an American woman who narrowly escaped the attacks. Sadness has turned to outrage on the streets of Mumbai.  NBC's Stephanie Gosk is there and will have a live report.

Also, we're learning more about tomorrow's big announcement from President-elect Barack Obama. Weather is causing trouble for millions of travelers trying to make their way home after a long holiday weekend.

Plus, we have a terrific story about a young pilot who promised some students that if they could build an airplane, he would fly it. So, did he make it off the ground? We hope you'll join us tonight.

Hi Amy
Well it's the little things that make me happy. The Giants with the sweet little quarterback Eli won and Sister Hillary is our new Secretary of State. What a role model Hillary is for young career minded woman. Resume of being a Lawyer, First Lady, two term Senator and now Secretary of State and the skys the limit. Can't forget that History making Primary votes of 18 million.

I've listen to former General Barry McCaffery give his opinon on the so called war I had no idea he was only speaking in interest for his personal company Defense Soultions as he was really working for the Pentagon to get contracts for profit. Sad he took that road and couldn't be honest. The NYTimes gave the background report.

Citi Group has a large shareholder from Inda and he could buy the majority shares to take control. Looks like another Bank that the taxpayers save will be control by a Foreigner. I wonder how many people know that or if they know anything about who really has control of the US banks and Companies we're bailing out. America is not longer for sale it's been sold with our own money.  Looks like American owned company are on their own.

See you same time same place
Terrfic news stories, and what's not to like
about you.

I was saddened by the clips of Tim Russert
but also reminded a permanent MTP moderator
will be chosen soon and I hope it's
Lester Holt as he is as objective as was
Mr. Russert.  Mr. Holt is a dynamic man.
Good Evening Amy, Nice to see you this evening and great job on the broadcast! First of all the report from Stephanie Gosk in Mumbai really showed how the people are angry with how the government of that region handled the attacks and that something should have been done sooner to stop it. Hearing from the restaurant owner about his account of what happened was chilling and scary. The attackers just being so brazen entering the restaurant and causing so much horror. It is simply awful. The one attacker still alive is giving some information to officials as to who was behind these attacks so at least they can learn how it originated. But too many innocent lives have been lost and that is devastating.
The account by the woman who was shot and was dragged out of the restaurant was frightening. I hope she recovers fully and returns home safely.

The report by Mr.Yang concerning President-Elect Obama and the annoucement of his National Security Team showed some very experienced names to be nominated. They will all have a huge and tough job ahead of them in dealing with the tense situations overseas.
Nice to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour land safely at Edwards Air Force Base.
It is wonderful to see a Tim Russert Plaza at the stadium where the Buffalo Bills play. It is a great tribute to a wonderul man, Tim Russert. I'm sure he was looking down and smiling.
The report by Mr.Mott about the teenagers who built the plane for Captain Barrington Irving was just as the plane's name expresses very inspirational. It was exciting to see the plane flying and how happy the teenagers were to see their efforts be achieved so well. Good Piece!
Thank You for the broadcast Amy! Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
Amy was VERY IMPRESSIVE tonight!
Very professional with just the right warm touch.
Amy,
We enjoy seeing you and Lester on The Today Show. Thanks for keeping it family-friendly.
Great job Amy and your smile with you reported the kids who built the airplane was priceless. Those kids are great as we see so much change and pride this year. I wish J. Robert Flores Administrator of the JJDPA hadn't wasted the grants for 8 years as so many more kids could have been helped.

I guess Brother Bill has a job now. All the talk about how the Clinton's and how much they didn't like Obama was just wishful thinking on some Journalist part. Obama knew he needed Bill and he knew Hillary qualified for any job. With so much going on it's smart to put out all the fires you can at one time. I was thinking how many men would do what Bill is doing for Hillary. Yes I know woman have always given up their careers and dreams for their husbands but I guess the Clintons are showing what marriage really means. Better/worse/equal/sacrifice/putting the person your married to first. The Clintons have what many fake a real marriage with action behind the vows. Now that Bill will be visiting Pakistan as the President is a long time friend and of course he friendship with the President of India things can get done.

Amy the picture you showed with Laura at the White House with the Christmas Tree accidently went out as cards to Jewish friends. I read about it but didn't see the card until you showed the view tonight.

The Giant Player Plaxico Burress should get the bone head award for shooting himself in the leg. As to him having a gun he had an expired licence from Flordia. Strange how so many people are buying and carrying guns. I noticed in this recession the gun sales are booming, maybe Burress should think about living in Texas or other states where guns are legal and as gun carrying people say their 2nd Amendment Rights protect them.

Have a great day

Best to my friends Lisa, Laurel, Stephanie, Claudia, Celine, Anna and Matt

Lester Holt does a great job on weekend Nightly News,  'But I think Keith Olbermann would bring a great deal of color and twist to Meet the Press, it might bring up the ratings.
Hello Amy,

I just watched a striking video online. It was President H. W. Bush describing the capture of Iraqi prisoners of war during the first Gulf War. The prisoners were terrified and not surrendering but the troops calmed them down by telling them that it's alright, they were Americans. President H. W. Bush was moved to tears telling the story, presumably because that would no longer be reassuring to anyone.

Amy, as rising leader in the media, how do you think you can help bring America back to its commitment not to ever torture any of its detainees?
Mark:  Terror, fear, gun fire, killing of innocent men, women and children.  Terror is terror whether on college campuses or in hotels anywhere in the world!

Sorry, I have to agree with Laurel on this one.  Interesting point by you though.   Maybe when you are 40 you will have the emotional maturity to understand the unknown to you right now.   I appreciate the thoughts!

Claudia:  Glad to keep you laughing.   A healthy debate opens your mind, heart and soul to a different, valid point of view.   Arguing and discourse is the closing of the mind.      What's the point?   Keep smiling!

Cyber Monday Bests to All!
Glenn Greenwald at Salon.com comments on a recent NY Times article that details retired general Barry McCaffrey's past and ongoing links with military contractors who profitted greatly from the Iraq War, despite Brian Williams and NBC's continued reference to him as an "impartial military analyst" for the network. I'll bet Brian wishes that THIS story would just go away! There's blood on your hands, Mr. Williams!<<<http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/11/30/mccaffrey/>>>
I reiterate what Ray Lamoureux said. This McCaffrey story seriously challenges NBC's credibility. I'll never believe anything McCaffrey says again. I doubt I'll ever hear a general speak without being highly skeptical. Should I apply this standard to Brian Williams, or the Nightly News in general? Apparently, since NBC keeps refusing to cover the story or respond to it. Maybe it shows why people who rely on TV news are normally misinfirmed.
Will Brian Williams have any comment on the Barry McCaffrey issue, either in his blog or on the air?  I'm sure he wishes devoutly this issue would go away, but truly, the people would like (and deserve!) to know if Mr. Williams has reconsidered his defense of Mr. McCaffrey.
Yes, Lester would be perfect for Meet The Press. His interviews are extremely informative as he obviously respects the guests and acts professionally without bias.
Kate you have a good point. Lester is the best NBC employee to cover Meet the Press. David Gergory has to much baggage from the Bush Administration as he close friendship with Karl Rove and his inside information about how to lie about Iraq having WMD's. Mark Whitaker would have been another big mistake after listening to him on Chris Matthews Show.
There is no one who can replace Tim Russert no one. Meet the Press will need a man like Lester who has no baggage and is one of the few fair/balanced reporters. Plus he has the most down to earth personality with his electric toys. I recommend the best for the job that is Lester Holt. Pass that on to the Executives who make the decisions.
A few days ago during the the Evening News, a news anchor and guests were simply  in awe, with  “How Did Mr. O’Bama Win The “Presidency”?  Well, the obvious answer is, that The complete news staffs of the Major News Networks,(including MSNBC) fully embraced Mr. O’Bama,  by “accentuating his positives and deleting his negatives”.
In reporting on Senator McCain and Governor Palin,  any negative was enhanced and all positives were played down.
When the News Anchors and staffs,  collectively  packed their bags and took off pell-mell with  Senator O’Bama on his “World Tour”, they left behind their integrity, and all sense of fairness in journalism,  and afforded Mr. O’Bama something he could have never bought, endless news coverage with “Rock Star” exposure.

As Americans, we all wish Mr. O’Bama success in his presidency.  After all,
America is our home too, and  only country we have.  However, as it is looking doubtful that Mr. O’Bama can fulfill most of his campaign promises such as Health Care,
we suggest at the very least, a “Mini-Health Plan” for the National News Media!

1. Ensure that all members of the Network News Staffs  receive One Monthly free bottle of “Metamucil” each,  for a period of 12  months, to effect the cleansing and restoration of morals, integrity, (if they ever had any), and journalistic  fairness.
2. And due to the Dour and Sour expressions on the faces of  the Network News
Anchors, Charles Gibson, Bryan Williams, and Katy Couric, while conducting
their interrogations  of Sarah Palin,  each shall receive two monthly Free bottles
of Metamucil in order that a thorough cleansing  of their integrity, common
sense, and their  “innards” be accomplished.    claudegray1@aol.com
