So President Bush went to the Department of Transportation today (home of the FAA, among other things) and joked that he hasn't "waited for an airplane … or had (his) bags lost …" over the last 8 years. He said this to much laughter.

His remarks won't endear him to the road warriors who fly for a living, and wait on runways and deal with cancelled and overcrowded flights. As someone pointed out today: It’s not as if he'll ever get a sense of how bad it is out there, either -- as our former presidents fly mostly by private aircraft after their time in office is over. What are the chances he'll ever have his belongings spread out across a table by the TSA?

I didn't think so.

Anyway, here's a transcript of his remarks.

Meantime: we're putting together tonight's broadcast and we hope you can join us.

Ah, Bush... This clueless man will go through the rest of his life without ever having to experience the reality that the rest of the world lives. What is even sadder is that everyone he knows will continue to enable him. Only in fictional dramas are such people ever shocked into admitting the truth about who they are and what they have done.  For him things will always be pleasant. For the rest of us, tragic.
Brian after reading your post it's time for you to calm down. Look Bush doesn't know and doesn't care what effects the American people for over 8 years. He is and always will be the party drinking, spoiled rich kid who brought down the United States of America.  We much all thank Speaker Pelosi was we could have ended this crime wave in 2006 but Pelosi got paid for keeping impeachment off the table.  Funny thing about life you seem to always get what you give out in the end. I've lived to see the rich, the Mighty and even the Powerful fall in a way only God can do.

Speaking of surprises check this out.
A South Texas grand jury has returned multi-count indictments against Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County’s federal detention centers.

I watched Bennie and Hank today at the hearings. Poor Bennie shows more and more he knows nothing and must have paid for his degree. Now Hank is doing what he was taught by his mentor convicted felon from the Watergate area John Ehrlichman. Yes young Hank learned how to lie and steal from the best. After learning the lessons he moved right to Goldman Sachs and now US Treasury Secretary. He looks funny trying to explain things he doesn't understand himself.

I heard about Lieberman. He must have alot on some of these Law Makers. The American voted for change and only in the department of a Presient and VP. Now it's time to clean up the Senate, Congress and House of Representatives.  Reid and Pelosi should be the first to go. Take Kerry and Lieberman with others as they show their not working for the American people.  These guys not need look for Obama/Biden to protect them their on their own.

I read that Eric Holder former Deputy Attorney General might be Obama's choice for the Top Spot. Interesting to see two minority Deputies get the top job. Yes the Govenor of New York and now Mr. Holder I guess the old way of working you way up still does happen.

See you at the same time and same place tonight
why do the tax payers always have to bail these losers out because of poor management ? i see it this way the min wage in most states is 7.50 per hr the auto makers are making up to 71.00 dollers an hr ,i say they should bail them selves out , lower the price of the auto so the ones making 7.50 an hr can aford to buy them
Brian,
you sound a little spiteful, or maybe a little envious. i enjoy reading your blogs and watching nightly, but you don't seem to like the experience of flying (or captains named kirk ) or the infrastructure in new york or blogs or the internet....maybe you should run for president and try to change some of those things......and what do you like? besides for striped ties...
Lighten up people...  It was a joke... Bet if Obama said it on the David Letterman show everyone would laugh... Because it's a Republican the context in which it was said is distorted and misused.  LIGHTEN UP WILLIAMS....Your bias shines through everytime you report something.
It was a JOKE!! People nowadays are so ridiculous with what "offends" them. Get a frickin LIFE!! The real joke is about to enter the Whitehouse!! Lord HELP US ALL!!
Brian,

Thanks for helping us to understand so much. Your insights are truly a revelation.
Brian,
Great newscast. Along with the report about the difficult times kids are having getting into colleges due to the rising costs, could you please do a report explaining why in the past 25 years college tuition has increased something over 400% while the cost of fuel from the evil oil companies has increased just over 100%. Also, the cost from the greedy health care providers has only increased slightly over 200%. Could be protection of the greedy liberal educators. The dog story at the end was great. The service men who fought for our freedom deserve anything we can do that makes life easier for them. Oh! it also reminded me how you and the other MSM folks have also gone to the dogs.
Bush will not be very happy when after going through TSA inspection his presidential shield, watch and ring are missing. When we turn in our luggage it has to be unlocked and open to sticky hands to take what they want. And they do.
Well, do we have to keep wondering why this country is in the state it is in??  President Bush is sooooo out of touch with what goes on in the lives of most Americans.  He has never had to worry about putting food on the table, health insurance, retirement etc etc.  I'm sure it gives all of us who have had flights cancelled, bags gone through, great pride in our President, that he can find such humor in the fact he doesn't have that problem.  That is almost as funny as him looking under tables for WMD's, while our young men are risking their lives. He thinks he is so funny, I wish he would have gotten a job on Saturday Night Live and left the United States out of his comedy routine.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, A fine broadcast this evening. First of all the report concerning the CEO's of all the automakers appearing before Congress to plead for more financial help is disturbing the see. I hope something can be done because if one of them does fail so many millions of jobs will be lost. One thing I would agree to do is to suspend the bonuses for Corporate Executives. It will interesting to learn the result of the vote later in the week.

On another note the report by Mr.Maceda about the takeover of Saudi ships by Somalian pirates sounds quite scary. They seem very brazen and skilled to just come up alongside one of these huge ships and takeover the entire ship. Hopefully, they can be stopped because it is making the waters extremely dangerous. The number given in the report of 80 attacks this year is staggering. Again, I hope they are all caught and brought to justice.
It is good the winds have calmed in California where all the massive fires broke out. It is so very sad that 1000 homes were lost. I hope people are able to rebuild.
Finally, the report by Mr.Bazell about the dogs being trained by soldiers to help fellow soldiers was really nice. Those soldiers suffering from Post Traumatic Stress are helping themselves so much by volunteering to train these dogs to assist fellow soldiers. I like the name "Paws for Purple Hearts" because it exemplifies exactly the purpose.
Very good piece! A mission accomplished is a good way with the help of "Man's Best Friend!"
Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,(Great to Have You Back!),Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Safe and Well Richard!
XOXO
Hey Brian,

You were probably very happy to hear about the new Bruce & the E Street Band album yesterday. Maybe you can break the mold and get Bruce to do a sit down interview. That would be awesome.

If you're like me I'm absolutely pumped for the Super Bowl and this tour. Should be a fun ride into '09.

Keep up the good work as always,
Jeremy
Brian, what a great segment to end the show with! A wonderful idea, and what other breed than a Golden Retriever would be as perfect, I can't think of any. Our family dog is a Chocolate Lab, and although he's sweet, I know he doesn't have a very good attention span. I've always loved Golden Retrievers, doesn't take much to fall in love with them.

Again, great show tonight! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

thank you thank you thank you for stating that there is no such thing as clean coal. I was about to start my tirade at the tv as usual when you said it and saved me from doing it**my friends are rather sick of said tirade** It would be a wonderful thing to find a way to burn coal cleanly and not just cleaner but if the coast is burning more coal to find the solution I'm not sure if that helps.
As for the big 3 bail out. I understand the grounds on which the argument is made to save them, but i think the question also needs to be asked why do we keep rewarding companies who have run themselves into the ground? I understand that  these companied employee thousands of people and losing them would cost all those people their jobs, but at the same time just because we bail out the automakers doesn't mean they won't lay off employees.
as always thank you

George W Bush is a poor excuse for a Human Being, let alone a President.  What do uou expect from an alcoholic?  Lets hope the days of Religious Zealots and Equal Rights Bigots are not the majority who put Punks and spoiled rich Brats like "Georgie" in the White House or any other position of Power ever again.
I did like the dog he was cute. I wouldn't say that to my cat.

Uncle Ted Stevens is gone and replaced with a Democrat. Who would have ever thought with 40 years and counting the end would come like this. Looks like Sarah Palin wont get to replace him now.

Paulson is a piece of work and must have been a good student for John Ehrlichman. I laugh everytime to trys to explain something he knows nothing about. Now if Congress would do their job things would be different.

I listen to the comments on the Auto bailout but I also remember Bush saying he wouldn't sign for them to get any money.  I agree they need help and I also wouldn't want to lose an American car Dealership. But they will have to make the changes Obama asked or it's over. My main concern is the workers who will lose their job. When you think of the US Auto Maker it will effect every State as we have so many Car Dealers and Car parts Stores.  In a way I do question taxpayers giving AIG 150 billion while they use it for parties and bonueses for top employees and still asking for more.

Celine: Hi how's things in Jersey?

Best to my friends Lisa, Laurel, Stephanie, Claudia, Celine, Anna and Matt
Agreed. I too enjoy that the last segment of the broadcasts of late have been uplifting.
Brian--  You and your dogs! That last piece brought tears to my eyes, something I wouldn't mind if they weren't falling into my dinner. What a heart tug!

I have long railed against the lack of children's playtime these days. My feelings that kids are too programmed have been validated. See msnbc.com--"Experts: Lack of playtime is hurting children." (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27789613/)

Hello to all the "usuals" and do take care-
Hopefully, Bush will wake up to reality after being tried and convicted for war crimes, along with Darth Cheney and Rummy, at the Hague. At the very least, he'll have a hard time travelling to many other places in the world (not that he'd want to, incurious as he is about the world) without fear of being arrested. It would be nice if he were also impeached and tried here, but now I'M the one living in a fantasy world.
Don't know if this is the right place...but is it a gremlin, or what?  I follow the link to your main blog page, and hear these funny sorts of animal sounds in the background...coming forward to post a remark, the dogs, or whatever they are are suddenly "quieten".....really, really weird...you may have entitled this particular blog 'THIS IS THE CAPTAIN...' , but with the sounds I'm getting, I'm wondering if it's Noah's Ark or if I'm getting some sort of hybrid cross feed here....
Hi Blog Regulars:

I was doing some retail therapy today and found this at Chicos.com   Here's Debbie Phelps quote which made be laugh.

"I want to MAKE A STATEMENT when I walk into a room.  When your clothes glitter or have that little SPARKLE, they give you the personality to do that as well."  -- Debbie Phelps

For some reason I think when some of us walk in the room people listen.  Here's Debbie's short interview.

She sounds like a neat lady!   Wednesday bests to all!

Again,on tonights Nightly News (Thu 20 Nov 2008) Brian Williams repeated the misinformation that the super tanker held by Somoli pirates is "three times bigger than an aircraft carrier".  Not true, these ships are essentially the same size. This should be common knowledge by people in the news business.
