McDonalds surges as economy sours

Posted: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 12:47 PM by Sam Singal

By Tom Costello, NBC News correspondent

A quick clarification to our story last night on the economy.  We reported that McDonalds saw a surge in business in October, as customers looked for cheaper food.  We also mentioned that McDonalds may raise prices on its dollar menu, to keep up with inflation.  McDonalds wants it clear that it's considering raising prices only on its Double Cheeseburger - which it would then move off the Dollar Menu.  The Double Cheeseburger will likely be replaced on the Dollar Menu by a new product called the McDouble (two beef patties and just one slice of cheese).

Thanks Tom for the 411. I only eat from the dollar mail because I can't eat that much any more it would be a waste of money from the regular menu. A nice salad and chicken does the trick. I do what as others get the super size and just looking at the amount fulls me up. McDonalds would really go broke waiting for me as must of the time I enjoy eating at home. There's still nothing better then a home cooked meal with friends and family.
Tom, thanks for the clarification.  It's important for our customers to know that they can depend on McDonald's to weather this tough economy with them.  What that means is providing everyday, branded affordability -- that includes our Dollar Menu.

mcdonalds, booze and antidepressants--- that is what the USA needs right now, these are three must watch /invest stocks--- probably take my retirement plan money to dizzying heights
my neighborhood mcdonalds raised their prices.
The prices in my neighborhood have been raised as well. I wonder if any changes will happen to the Dollar menu.
Gee, Tom, it's really ironic that you're spending so much time plugging McDonald's, because they spend so much time plugging our arteries.  How much did McDonald's pay NBC to have you write a biography of their Dollar Menu?  Maybe Brian can sign off each night by saying "You want fries with that?"  And on the next Nightly News you can interview the Hamburglar, and Chuck Todd can tell us how the recount is going in Mayor McCheese's re-election campaign.
yeah i work there and everything on the entire menu almost has gone up 50 cents in a year,
Unfortunately the low cost of fast food usually comes back to hurt people in the long run because the food causes heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other preventable and very expensive diseases.
