Because the people I know who are truly mental about this upcoming election cannot stand the coverage and the wait and the suspense (a friend of mine stocked up on rental DVD movies just to keep her mind off the election and her eyes off the media coverage), here's another attempt to make the time go more quickly: The best playlist I could come up with on short notice, a thematic countdown to the big day:

Seven Days - Bob Dylan
Six Days on the Road - Dave Dudley
Five Days, Five Days - Gene Vincent
Four Days - Counting Crows
Three Days - Jane's Addiction
48 Hours - The Clash
Tomorrow - Avril Lavigne
Today - Smashing Pumpkins

Bonus track:
Let's Do It Again - The Staple Singers

Please remember to stop listening long enough to join us tonight for our broadcast.

Hey Brian,

It's funny you should make a music post today because I was about to say you haven't blogged about music since the Olympics but bam...here it is.

Keep up the great work!
Nice choice of music for the count down. I like James Blunt's songs for everyday.

Now to my early report as the Ghost reporter. Stocks are up and will go down it's just a ride. As the US isn't controlling the banks or the companies nothing much will change. Now I was impressed with Brian's report that bonuses are still being given out to employees by companies that received the bailout money. Hank Paulson struck a great deal and money is till pouring out like wine to the Wall Street Greed Group. If taxpayers don't speak up look for Hank to ask for another 700 billion plus bailout from Congress. To bad the GOP doesn't have the blank check Congress that just gave out the money since 2000.

Poor Uncle Ted got caught and move will follow. Now if only the GOP were still in control of Crime, Ted wouldn't even have a trial for a charge. Sarah's next with her involvement in Alaska corruption and kick backs.

Now not to out do my homeboy Chuck Todd who has done a great job.  This election has become bigger then Obama/Biden. After making calls for ( I wont say who ) I done more listening then talking and it's all about the Economy and not Obama.  The attack ads haven't helped either candidate but one lady said when you have to choose between food or pills this has to stop. On a side note Brother Bill Clinton is the man and I'm so proud Senator Obama didn't listen to Pelosi, Reid, Leahy or Dean when they told him to dump the Clintons.  Americans need to be reminded of the eight years President Clinton let all Americans have the American Dream. Ok things weren't perfect but they were the best of times as even my daughter in high school had a savings account.

See you at 6:30
Brian say hi to the staff, their all great and do a wonderful job with all your supporters.
Hi Brian,

I read today on TVNewser that you would Andrea Mitchell into election night coverage. Why would you put her there, she has no credentials in covering the election night, she wasn't even a campaign reporter either for McCain nor for Obama. She is a total journalistic joke. She should be fired from NBC News for her obvious far left liberal bias, that she openly promotes on MSNBC and NBC News. You should put Joe Scarborough there, because he would be the only conservative voice during that evening. Because with you, Tom Brokaw and Mitchell that would be a legitimate triple threat for a Democratic fanfest on NBC News during election night. Even when I read that MSNBC will have Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Eugene Robinson and Chris Jansing that disgusts me. Because MSNBC will be feeded toward the German channel "Phoenix" that means that I have to see democratic operatives called "commentators". That is disgusting. Please change that so 78 countries where MSNBC will be broadcasted during Election Night won't suffer from democratic brain farts.

I hope you will criticize Obama as heavily as you can, so there will be an equilibrium when the voting booths will open. Because America needs an equilibrium and not favor any candidate. Because Obama has a "supposed" wide margin lead over McCain means that Obama has to be brought down, so there is this equilibrium. The media has done no good in supporting Obama with falsified opinion polls and people like Keith Olbermann or Lee Cowan on NBC.
Huh? a news anchor who listens to good music? idbleve it (yes i spk n txt) you could've added smashing pumpkins' tonight tonight, its a great song to listen to as the night moves slowly on...As one of ure yung vwers i have to thank you, i run home every night to c you bcuz ure (ok you're) so handsome AND i get the news as well! tell chris matthews and keith olbermann... and now rachel maddow, to please stop being so biased, Obama might be cool, but can i get the news please?
Sounds like a man with a well organized iPod or a hint to songs you'll be closing the broadcast out with until the zero hour.

Best,
Oh GOD, please let's NOT do it again!  Nothing against the song, but goodness, I don't think we could stand another 13, 24, 72 months (how long has it actually been) of this!

Actually, Brian, that might be an idea for a Friday night end-of-broadcast kind of thing:  a look back at the stories making headlines just BEFORE the primaries, etc. started.  It'd be great to be reminded of what was occupying our minds back before this fray (wasn't The Cosby Show still on the air?!)
Hi Brian, I have an article for you that deals with Obama's real connections to terrorists, I hope it will change your opinion on Obama:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZDFkMGE2MmM1M2Q5MmY0ZmExMzUxMWRhZGJmMTAyOGY=

That Obama is a terrorism supporter and should not be President of the United States. He also lies as much as he can or even relapses into silence when it's about questioning him about his real connections with the most dangerous terrorists in the Middle East.

So I urge NBC News to ask the LA Times to release the video in that Obama was involved. Or your reputation will be deminished more and more you report positive on Obama.
Hey, Brian - We also could do "Winds of Change"  (Eric Burden & the Animals), "The Times They are a-Changin'" (Dylan)and "A Change Is Gonna Come" (Sam Cooke) .... but I think my favorite is "Send In The Clowns" (Judy Collins) .... and then a reference to Pelosi, Reid and Frank .... "don't bother, they're here."
"Let's Do It Again"??!! Dear God, Brian, NOT again!!!
Just the thought makes me look around for a window to jump out of!

Your "regulars" are not only news junkies, they are also politically active. I, too, have been phone banking for _____. Will volunteer to help get out the vote on 11/4. That makes at least 3 of us! (Hi Jackie!)

Speaking of "get out the vote", please everyone, don't assume this is over -- it isn't -- for either side. We've all come all this way and spent all this time -- don't waste it all by pooping out the last week. VOTE! And vote on the issues. No president is ever going to have a beer with any of us! (Brian doesn't drink.) That is a non-issue. Vote your own and the countries interests as best you see them -- but VOTE!
Brian,
Why aren't you going to do the same number of interviews with Obama and Biden that you did with McCain - Palin? Why isn't Biden included as Palin was? Please explain the discrepancy. Thank you
a comment on this evening's broadcast, which just ended...

regarding the last story, the interviews with a NJ toolmaker and a NYC graphic artist who feel that the "glass is half full" regarding the direction the country is going, i'd like to make a point that was obvious to me when i was watching but was overlooked by the report. and that is: those 2 people werent really commenting on the direction the country is going. they were commenting, perhaps, on the state of the country right now. but more than that, they were talking about the state of their personal financial situation. that's not really a comment on the direction of the country. and it would have been nice if that were challenged during the interview.

obviously not everyone in america is out of work. and certainly not the 70+% of respondents to the NBC poll who said the country was headed in the wrong direction is out of work. the unique thing about the interview subjects on the broadcast tonight wasnt how they feel about america's direction, it was how selfish they are. just because they are personally ok, they respond to a poll about the nation by immediately thinking only about their families.

well, good for them. someday, america may have the support of all its citizens to make improvements for the whole. until then, influential people will continue to stare through their little pinhole cameras to determine how "their nation" is doing. sad.
Brian,
Today you mentioned the high number of people surveyed that said they wanted change.  I was one that was surveyed and said I wanted change but it was not because of President Bush.  It was because of the Democratic Control of our congress and their lack of regard for the situation of the US and their policies of piggy backing on important bills to get their way and cost the tax payers more....
You missed something: for all those who couldn't see any coverage positive towards to McCain (I can't get no satisfaction, The Rolling Stones).

Or another thing, for all those who think that neither Obama nor McCain are real natural born citizens (Born in the U.S.A.).

Or another thing, if McCain wins you can play "Beautiful Day" by U2, Bono is also a friend of Brian Williams.

And for all those democratic operatives on your network you can play a variation of "Barbara Ann": Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Olbermann. This would be great.
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Hello from Arizona! I viewed the video of Richard before the actual broadcast here. Woo! Hoo! Always great to see Richard on the broadcast this evening! Great Blue Shirt as Always! Richard's report concerning negotiating with the Taliban may be an attempt by General Petraeus to help in the strategy for success in getting some sort of peace in the region. It could be a good thing to do depending on what the response could be from the Taliban. One may not like sitting down with the enemy, but sometimes if they agree to cease the violence it can be successful. Always great reporting Richard!! PLEASE STAY EXTRA SAFE AS ALWAYS!! EXCELLENT REPORTING AS USUAL!!
On another note the unusual weather system of wintry snowfall, rain and wind has certainly had a huge effect on many States. Even cancelling a World Series Game. I hope it improves so the teams can play again. It looked very bad last night with all the fans huddled under raincoats and umbrellas.
Also, a good list of music selections Mr.Williams to keep happy during all this overwhelming election coverage.
Thank You for the broadcast! I enjoyed the videos of the reports! PLEASE ALWAYS KEEP EXTRA SAFE RICHARD!!
Peace to You and to All!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra Safe and Well Richard! Wherever you report!
XOXO
Nightly News gave misleading information about Obama's tax cut plan. Obama's plan has always been for those who make from $0 to $200,000 to get a tax cut; those who make from $200,000 to $250,000 would have their taxes remain the same, and those over $250,000 to have their taxes increased.

Nightly News correspondent, Kelly O'Donnell, unethically, once again, did her best to help John McCain mislead people. McCain charged that since Joe Biden used the figure $150,000 in an interview to describe a class that would get tax cuts under Obama that Obama's plan was being adjusted to apply to lower incomes to rope in more and more middle income people for higher taxes. That's not true. What Biden said does not conflict with the plan as stated here in paragraph one. He was just using $150,000 as an example. No change in the plan took place. McCain was just once again distorting the truth and lying.

After fully airing McCain's false charges, Kelly gave Obama's side by quoting a generic dismissal but then added on her own that Obama changed the figure for those getting tax cuts to $200,000 from $250,000. Kelly made it look like McCain was telling the truth and Obama was lying. In fact, as outlined here in paragraph one, the $200,000 figure has always been the top limit for those getting tax cuts. $250,000 is the bottom limit for those getting tax hikes. Of course, cuts and hikes are two different things.

Obama didn't change anything. Kelly's accusation was dishonest. I use that strong a word because McCain's misleading charge was debunked right here on First Read at 11:00 AM. How could first read know McCain's charge was false but Kelly O'Donnell not know?
Brian,
On Nightly tonight Kelly O'Donnell showed how sloppy she is as a reporter, which of course reflects on you. In discussing the Biden $150K gaffe, she "reported" that the Obama campaign said those making less than $200,000 a year would get a tax cut, not the $250,000 they had used before.  As you of course know, the plan has always been expressed as no tax increase for those making less than $250,000 but a tax cut only for those making under $200,000.  Will there be a correction?
Please STOP trying to elect Obama
There is no way you are an impartial as you should be.
Just do your job and not campaign for Obama
Obama is a socialist, no question about it.
Is that what you are campaigning for ?
Thank you Ben Leonard, your post is sooooooooo right on!!!
What about "I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones
Reading the lineup you quickly did, I think after election night, all you hard worker bees that be with NBC (and MSNBC)might consider "Sunrise" by Nora Jones as my hats off to ya'll!
Brian interesting story on those doing ok. Now once this recession hits them they will join the 76% of us. With McCain in charge it wont take long for those two to be on the list of those who are falling.

I will be sleeping the night of the election to much tension for me. I live on the West Coast so I'll know alot by 9:00pm when it's 12 midnight on the East Coast.

Richard gave a great report about what's really going on with the Taliban. What's interesting is Bush invited the Taliban to the US as his guess now that friendship is over. The Middle East will handle their differences as their all related to each other. I look for Afghanstan to have a new Leader and so will Iraq. I did learn the Iran Supreme Leader, Iran President and Iraq PM Maliki are Shia. Iraq's President is a Sunni. Syria's President Bashar al-Assad is form the Baath Party and his wife is a Sunni. Now to sum this up the Middle East are all related to one another and will solve their own problems if left alone. What's sad is the US pushed all of those from the Baath Party out of Iraq when the US invaded Iraq.

Now a report from the Ghost Reporter me.  Most remember Sarah's commit that with the Georgia vs Russia conflict as Sarah said she would bomb Russia to protect Georgia.  Well that's an example of just how really stupid she is.  World news reported that the investigation shown with evidence that Georgia invaded and attacked Wuth Ossetian and killed 1,600 innocent citizens as Russia stepped in to protect the people. Now the United Nation might charge Georgia with War Crimes for being terrorist aggressers.  Now thank God Sarah and McCain aren't in charge or the United States again would have attacked an country that never attacked us. I did notice this information wasn't reported on the Media but it's all over the World News.

Looks like McCain/Palin and other GOP Law Makers are saying Uncle Ted Stevens should resign. So much for friendship and loyality. Some blogger feel Ted Stevens should not have been charged with his crimes because he's a Republican Senator.  Look for more Democrats and Republicans to be charged with their crimes.

Senator Reid is already acting like the Bush team. He's trying to push a fellow Democrat Senator Byrd out of his seat. Reid did his part in the kick backs given out by the White House and now he's acting just like them. If Obama/Biden and the American people want to clean up the US Govenment both Democrats and Republican criminals have to be voted out. I'm tried of everyone thinking it's just the Republicans. Look Pelosi got her kick back from the White House to keep the impeachment of Bush off the table. Senator Feinstein sold out California voters with a deal with the White House and her husband got a really big contract in return. Reid got his kick back and even Jefferson was paid for his cooperation. This crime wave went on for 7 years and many from both Parties took the 40 pieces of silver from the White House just as Judas did when he turned Jesus in.

The United States is now blackmailing Iraq for that deal to have US soldiers stay in Iraq. Let's see if it works since the Iraq Govenment sees Bush/Cheney are lam ducks now.

Have a great evening

Best to my friends Lisa, Laurel, Stephanie, Claudia, Celine, Anna and Matt

ps Stephanie I really did miss reading your post glad your back
How about a "Happy Trails"  to the 2 year nonstop coverage of the campaign, both good and bad?

A shout out to the Obama-Clinton primary - Suffragette City

Or how about The Doors- The End

For the last night of the campaign season-Three Dog Night - One is the loneliest number

I could go on like everyone else.
Well, day 16 of no Mahiney and other Democrat shenanigans.  And only 7 to go til the election and then you will get back to ---what is it you do?  Because reporting the NEWS ain't it.  Maybe that is why you all have changed your title to 'journalist'.  We expect a 'reporter' to properly report the news, whereas a journalist is held only to his/her own standard of what they 'feel'.
To Marc Schulz from Germany--

Before you put Andrea Mitchell down as a reporter/journalist, I suggest you read her book "Talking Back...to Presidents, Dictators, and Assorted Scoundrels".

There are few, if any, television journalists who have the depth of experience and expertise she has in both the U.S. political and international arenas. Her work and reputation has garnered great respect and that in turn gets us great inside info.

I look forward to her insight on election night. No one can replace Tim -- but Andrea comes as close as anyone can.
Sometimes love slips away, and you just can't get it back Jaded-Underwood.  Till the end of the earth, I was willing to share it all with Him, but somewhere my wings were broken....and you see the pain as a dagger.  How much do you let your woman take.  So, to know me, between you and me...a memory, So, to not know me...there was never a promise.

Music is like a perfume, that lingers through the day.  but until the day breaks and the shadow flees, I am stuck inside a myrrh tree.  The temple behind the veil,I remove the robe and determine, just living is gold.  For love is strong as death, but through labor, like a seal, I can reveal, a river that flows inside, has to break in the close. No one can imagine who a frind would bring, we sing, because God will determing the ring.  Promises, a discise, as it never is greener on the other side yet do not fear because in the end, everything to quinch, will be clear. Being a friend, in the end is like the sea, vast as everything we can be, and see.
Just believe.         He's alright....didn't elvis sing that.  I've got to work at Sherwood tonight, they are having a candyfest for kids.  Glad the stock market was good. yea    God says, arise,to all and there will be a doorway; gold will not be able to save...in his day, if...... they will throw their silver in the streets, you will stand on your own two feet.  Contain a good nest egg, for not to pledge, set it aside, because you feel, I am drawing neigh.
Talk to you soon, Brian, tesa

Gwendol from Bowling, Newnan, GA...yeah, either that or My Dear Country, also by Nora Jones.
The soundtrack from the movie, Bob Roberts, but Tim Robins and his brother (name?) also comes to mind. Very funny and very dark.
Mr Williams:

Are you old enough to remember Peggy Lee?  My choice for a song to hear just prior to going in to vote  has to be Ms Lee's " Is That All There Is?"

Me stepping in against Him for your sakes.  This is His first warning to the world.  It is 10%.  Set it aside every month.  And this does not stop Business regulations.  And what you do is crusial-your work.  Be calm, but do not take God for grantid.  I mean ignore what He says.  Yall are His generals....remember that and His family.  Sorry Brian, I am back to "waiting on a call to stop writing"or we will call on the law .It is put on somebody.
interesting song selection...

three days is about binging on heroin and having sex

today is about a suicide note..

you must have a lovely, dark sense of humor.

I'm writing this to let people know that that crazy man on Fox News O'Riely said that only criminals watch NBC or MSNBC.I was offended by this.I'm a hard working woman and I hope someone ask him about this.At least Im not a sex pervert..
I miss Tim Russert.  He is the one single person on this earth to get me going with regards to keeping me interested in the political process of our nation.  His excitement and enthusiasm was very contagious. Since this is such a historical election for our country, I really looked forward to his insight and probing interviews into the candidates. I can only imagine the impact of Tim interviewing Palin.  I feel his spirit in the newsroom.  Thank you for remembering Tim tonigh.
