ABOUT THIS BLOG

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

It's debatable ...

As I said after last night's coverage, anyone familiar with the early American town hall meeting tradition -- would be forgiven for not considering what happened in Nashville last night a "town hall-style meeting" per se. The rules allowed the audience to play but a limited role. Tom Brokaw did the best he could against the time constraints, and the candidates did what candidates do. If the voters want changes, the Commission on Presidential Debates will have to change...and it will take both parties to change that. For now, we'll continue using these same formats, the same lecterns, the same eagle logo above the stage -- and we'll have to be content with events like last night.

We'll have coverage of the debate and the continuing economic situation tonight. I hope you can join us.

Obama and the ACORN group stole the nomination from HIllary. YOu can bet there was widespread voter fraud in the primaries
I would like to know how i can be participatein the presidental debate.
Neither candidates proposal for health care reform address the root cause of out of control health care cost and unaffordability - the need for tort reform.  With lawyers representing the largest group of contributors to political campaigns it is unlikely we will ever see real reform.
Brian,

I, along with many other Americans who love this country, want to know why TV anchors on the 3 major networks aren't covering and reporting on the many  threats against Sen. Obama.  You and the others TV anchors have never hesitated to report on death threats against those running for office in other countries. Why the lack of coverage or under reporting of coverage on the threats against Sen. Obama??? Whether he wins the presidential election or not, isn't his life and the death threats against it worth reporting??? Why the hesitation or silence on covering this issue? MSNBC and CNN are the only ones (as far as I have seen) who have done an adequate job of reporting this on a regular basis. Please help me to understand the thinking of the anchors of the 3 major networks on not providing full and focused coverage on the threats against Sen. Obama's life.
I am wishful that your next blog topic will be:  ACORN AND VOTER FRAUD.  Do you have the will and courage to discuss this on the nightly news.  I am hopeful, but afraid that I'll be disappointed.  Troopergate versus Voter Fraud in America or will Tony Romo really vote in Las Vegas?  I wonder what the answer will be Brian.  Amazed and still Hopeful..
Scary people commenting.

How is it POSSIBLE after two years of vetting, with information all over every newspaper in the WORLD, that some of these people are so clueless about Obama?

I must be deliberate...as I can think of no why that this would be possible.

Amanda,

Honey, where do I begin?  Maybe it would be best to tell you to stop getting your news from chain emails.  There are literally THOUSANDS of legimate news sites where you can get your questions answered.  There are also several fact checking sites.  But you must know that right?

Is it that you do not wish to know that Obama was NOT raised by a Muslim?  Maybe you do not wish to know that just like numerous Republicans, several of who contributed contributions to McCain ALSO served on board of director which also had Bill Ayers as a board member.  That is life honey.  If you get invited to join a board whose objectives are you own, in this case, the Anneberg Foundation, funded by REPUBLICAN PHILANTHROPISTS, you act like a big girl (or boy) and do the work.  Just as everyone else on that board did.  Ayers was an anti-Vietnam radical 40 years ago.  He never killed anyone.  He is now a professor.  You don't have to like or respect him but as everyone but crazies like you seem to know, life is not a playground (or Wasilla Alaska) where you get to pick only your friends to work with.

My suggestion to you and ill-informed like you:

Either learn to read several sources, try google and actually reading newspapers from all over, read a little about history as it may pertain to the issue you are reading about, and if you still cannot make heads or tails without a radio talk-show host telling you what to think, you always have sites like www.factcheck.org and others.  The crazy false accusations about the flag on the plane and all that are there honey.  How could you not know that?  Obviously you have Internet and can type words into Googles news site.

Or, you can just admit the real reason you will not vote for Obama.  We know anyway. wink wink

By the way, I am a 45 year-old Southern (all my life) white professional (oooh does that mean I'm educated....then I must be BAD becasue we all know those elite ones with "book learnin' " cannot be up to no good)!  Also, an Independent who has voted Republican twice for President and even once for an Independent.  You see, I make up my own mind.  No political party UNION tells me what to think.

Try it.
Brian, I am an independent social moderate, fiscal conservative female in Alabama (yes, we know how to email in the south).  I have also been a lifelong viewer of NBC news but I am deeply disappointed with the quality of fair news coverage that I have seen this election.  I have voted for Democrats and Republicans in the past because I like to ponder factual news reports and make my own decision about whom to vote for.  However, this year I am completely aggravated with the way that the media is cramming Obama down everyone's throats.  John McCain is a good person and an American hero, but that doesn't seem to garner any respect anymore.  I wish that you would spend a little more time investigating some real concerns about Sen.Obama and a little less time criticizing Sen. McCain, perhaps then NBC will regain some creditabiliy for journalism again.
PLEASE GET OFF OF CAMPAIGNING FOR SEN. OBAMA AND START DOING YOUR JOB,WHICH IS TO REPORT THE NEWS AND TO REPORT THE TRUTH!!!!SEN. OBAMA HAS TIES TO ACORN WHICH HAS  SINGLEHANDEDLY DESTROYED OUR VOTING SYSTEM.SEN. OBAMA HAS TIES TO ALL THESE RADICALS.PLEASE BE FAIR TO BOTH CANDIDATES.THAT IS ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT.NOT FOR THE MEDIA TO DECIDE WHO WOULD MAKE THE BEST PRES.SEN. OBAMA HAS TIES WITH ACORN ,WHICH HAS DESTROYED OUR VOTING SYSTEM.HE HAS ALSO HAD TIES WITH TOO MANY RADICALS.REPORT THIS. ALSO THE DEMOCRATS HAVE BACKED FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC WHICH HAS BROUGHT US TO THIS FINANCIAL CRISIS.I THINK IT IS FUNNY THE STOCCK MARKET HAS WENT DOWN JUST BEFORE ELECTION.DO YOU TRULY WANT A SOCIALIST COUNTRY?FOR HEAVENS SAKE REPORT THIS STUFF.BE A REPORTER AND DO YOUR JOB!!!
My frustration continues to mount as it appears more and more that NBC and Brian Williams, in particular, have decided that Obama/Biden is best for America.  Check the values: 1) more government by either party is not in our best interests; 2) health care for all is desirable, if we can find a way to pay for it until such time as the benefits of decreasing our dependence upon hospital emergency rooms comes to fruition; 3) how can we afford the social programming of the Democratic Party as represented by Obama/Biden; and 4) most importantly, the underlying values of integrity, honesty, concern for life, etc. are what I will be voting for even though I do not agree wholly with McCain/Palin on some aspects of their platforms.
