We are insanely busy today, doing hourly live updates on the network and crashing together political and financial coverage for tonight's broadcast.

Because many people have asked, I wanted to say that I, along with many other journalists, certainly hope and expect to be given the opportunity to interview the GOP Vice Presidential nominee, Gov. Sarah Palin. We issued the standing request for an interview the instant Gov. Palin was named to the ticket, and have followed up numerous times on various fronts with the campaign. In anticipation of such an event, please post questions that you would like to see asked, and we will make every attempt to work your question into the mix during an interview.

Mr Williams,
I am sending an email to the President that says "If this country is better than $9 trillion dollars in debt, where is another $700 billion dollars coming from?"
Question for Gov. Palin: Your experience has been limited to domestic issues affecting Alaska.  Why should voters have the confidence in your abilities to lead the country on a world stage?
NBC is the best.....I always come back at 6:30

1) The "Misery Index" coined by President Reagan is the sum of the interest rate and employment rate....both were high for President Carter, and Carter lost re-election.  In your administration, are higher interest rates a tool to prevent bad loans at the risk of a high misery index?
Has it not occurred to the mortgage companies and banks that it would be better to refinance home loans if the borrower could pay a lower interest rate?  I know a lot of people got in over their heads with the adjustable rate loans but could pay the lower initial rate.  Some profit beats none, and it might improve peoples confidence in banks/mortgage companies to see them helping the situation instead of making it worse.  I know that some banks are, appearantly, doing this on a case by case basis, already.
Brian,
I don't understand why the media is pushing those who voted against the bailout to change their minds and vote yes. Maybe these members of Congress are actually doing their jobs and listening to the people who voted them into office. It is clear that many of us who live on 'Main Street' don't want the bailout to pass - so I say "THANK YOU" to those who voted against it. Thank you for listening to the people!
Also, as many have said, what good does this bailout do for ME. I did not get myself into a mortgage that I could not afford - whether or not I read the fine print of my mortgage papers is MY fault, not someone else's. I live within my means and did not rake up huge credit card debt so I could 'keep up w/ the Jones's'. So, what good will this bailout do for me? Raise my taxes? Thanks, but no thanks.
Brian Williams

My wife and I have been NBC news fans for 30 years.  We welcomed your arrival to carry on the tradition of excellence in NBC news.  We have recently been very disappointed in the declining quality of inquiry and analysis. You capped it the other night noting that "we may never know all the causes of the financial crisis, but we know that many Americans are very angry about the bailout," or words to that effect.

Why is it that Americans can only get angry at Wall Street or the CEO's? They certainly deserve some of the blame, but the story runs much deeper than that. Why is NBC news not doing all it can to reveal the complexities and complicities of the story? We are actually better off now watching the Today Show for analysis. When are you and perhaps even other anchors going to fight against the Murdockization of the news and offer us true focus and analysis? The vote yesterday in the House is more your responsibility than anyone else's. You are as responsible for the dumbing down of America as anyone.  Different network, but it is time for a Walter Cronkite moment harkening back to the truth on Vietnam. Or a Tim Russert moment.

We depend on your program to cover all of the facts in detail.

Please provide in depth reporting on Democrats Jamie Gorelnick and Franklin Raines, as they are a big part of the Fannie Mae story. How much money did each of them receive?

Thanks.

I'm a Real Estate Broker in California and just a little food for though. If we could create an over view consultant agency  which would re-qualify Existing Home Buyers of existing personal residence on their mortgage's to allow them to stay where they now house their families at a reduced mortgage payment, without a reduction on the Principal balance, allowing the market to rebound at a later time. And if  this idea would help lesson the exodus of the American Families from their Home's and therein help stabilize the market. Then the lenders wouldn't have to take the properties back through foreclosure and eventually the lenders would be paid off. Most lenders would have to have an offset for the loss of income from the existing loan payments, this is where we become creative. We need to offer the lenders an INVEST TAX CREDIT  of some sort, to help ease the loss of income during the reduction of payment period. This in my opinion would help stop the down turn in our economy and therefore restart some needed housing projects throughout our GREAT COUNTRY. If you need addition input I'll be available. Respectfully Joseph A. Leon

I am Disappointed that NBC and You and Your Staff are so Biased that you think only the Democrats are right. I worked for GE once but am ashamed to tell any one now That you and are so biased that you really should register as an active arm of the Democratic Party. I hope you never get an interview with Palin, you don't deserve one.
Response to yeah censor don't post this one either

A waitress name Lucille who was serving Gov. Palin and friends reported the comment she made heard by others in the resaurant. As reported on Youtube, LA Progressive, Bluelight and Democratic underground.

Now I feel Sarah Palin has a right as an American to say what she feels. After reading about her in the Local Alaska newspapers this is who she is. Racism is still a part of this country and I can't change it. But please don't make excuses for Sarah. She isn't the only racism Law Maker we have. Now believe it or not it's your choice but it's been widely reported and there has been no legal action taken as a false report.  I have lived to see much of racism and hate from my country but I'm been blessed to see the best of love from my country too.
Hi brion Ithink the ceo.s have caused this they get all the on these home loans the banks tell you it  is a fixed rate but it is  not so  the intrest rate goes up he  people  cant  pay the high rate so the ceo.s take theire house to resale thinking to make big profit but housen market droped lower than the thethe mqney they had loaned onit  so the ceo.s lost   i think the FBI should  check them out thanks leon
Hi Brian Ask Sara Palin Who controlls the alasken pipeline and why  does any of the oil go to great britten  leon lamb
If I was Palin, I would not grant NBC any interviews, in fact I would call NBC out as a non news organization.   Your viewers should check out newsbusters.org.  NBC is constantly being called out for their bias commentary.   Please wake up and help our country by doing your jobs with class and fairness.
The mainstream press and news have lost their integrity.  They continue to abuse their coverage and interviews with their liberal patrician view, instead of REPORTING the news.  The liberal press/news definitely has an agenda to elect the candidate of the their choice, instead of presenting fair and balanced interviews, so the American people can make up their own minds about who the people of the United States want to represent them as President of the United States.  You are doing a great disservice to this great country!
I will NOW watch FOX news from here on out.  The liberal press/news has blown it with me.  I cannot trust them to tell the truth or be impartial or objective.  I want NEWS, NOT their opinions.  Goodbye ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC,& PBS.  We should all change the channel.
I will vote for the integrity, experience, wisdom, dedication, character, and the servant heart of John McCain (he has longevity in his blood line look at his mother), over the youth and the LACK of experience, LACK of judgment, and LACK of character of Obama, any day!  I think that Republican DR. Martin Luther King Jr's Dream would be realized if Obama would NOT be elected on the 'Content of his character.'  Obama is the one who has made this about race.
The fundamentals of the economy ARE strong, it's the "I deserve it, I want it now" attitude that has gotten this country in this mess and congress willing to give loans to anyone who has a pulse, even illegals!  Until people give up everything except the bare necessities; food, water, transportation, and fuel, the economy is not bad.  People still have to have their cell phones, cable or satellite TV, $10-20 carwashes, party on the weekend; ballgames, movies, bars, NFL, NBA, baseball, hockey, NASCAR, etc.. The economy is NOT bad.
Gas prices - Until the ‘Gasoline Price Correction’ we had it pretty good for a long, long, time.  When you compare what percentage the cost of a gallon of gas is to the average yearly income today, in 2008 to percentage the cost of a gallon of gas is to the average yearly income was 1969 or 1973.  We had it pretty good for a long, long time!  Today, we have cars that get much better fuel economy and are 95% cleaner than in the 1960's.  What are we complaining about?
There are some regional problems, but hey there are jobs all over the country!  We have a shortage of engineers in Kansas.  If you get laid off, go back to school and retrain. I had to do that. You should be doing that anyway.  Why do people think the government should bail them out?  Why are people afraid to work?  Save your money, pay cash only, pinch pennies, “eat rice and beans and beans and rice...” to quote DaveRamsey.com.
Let’s quit whining and expecting the government to solve our problems and get to work.  It doesn’t matter what you do; Always do it as unto God and He will meet your need.
McCain-Palin is who we need-character, integrity, and a dedication to service to their country.  They are both proven!
Hi Brian -
As one of very few news anchors I trust, I think a comment made by actor Russell Crowe has a lot of merit. With this country in the economic situation it is in, rather than giving $700 million to the boneheads who got us in to this financial crisis in the first place, why not give every taxpaying citizen in this country (ones who have actually filed and paid taxes) $1 million each so they can solve their own financial crisis (whether it be credit card debt or mortgage problems). It would save the overburdened taxpayer half of what Congress wants to allocate to these crooks and would get the economy moving again. And please, let's not say it will only cost each citizen in this country $2000. Not every person in this country (children, welfare recipients, etc.) will be paying for this. The cost to each TAXPAYING CITIZEN will be closer to $5000 each. I opt for Congress just giving me $1 million to solve my own financial problems.
The Republicans have lashed out for decades at the Democrats, for wanting to raise taxes to pay for what they (the Democrats)think is needed in this country.  Kind of the "pay as you go" system, which is what we citizens of this country have to do to get what we need.  The Republicans though on the other hand, keep borrowing money from the Chinese (and maybe others) which doesn't look as bad to the American people, since it doesn't immediately affect them.  But is it better to do that than the "pay as you need it" philosopy?  I think the US Government is bankrupt for all intents and purposes.  How much more money will the Chinese loan us before they call in our loans, and ask for a balloon payment!  Is our government going to sell our national parks, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore to foreign governments to get the monies needed to pay all these billions back?  Where does this all end?
I would ask Gov. Palin as to why she has not given the money back to the Federal Government since there not going to build that bridge.
2. Why has Alaska gone into the red since she took office?
3. How can she run for office "to get the crooks out of washington" when Sen. McCain was one of the Keating 5 ?

Hi Folks

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to
America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are
200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man,
woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18
and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that
equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their
pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your
family?

Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college – it’ll be there

Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car – create jobs

Invest in the market – capital drives growth

Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care
improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+
including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other
company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in
our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do
it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that
is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail
out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean
it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the
$85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG
or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Family plan only really costs $59.5
Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh....I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic                                                                                                                !

PS:  Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it’s
either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought  on how to best use $85
Billion!!

Hi Brian,
The upswing of the market today seems to indicate the predictions of doom and gloom may not have been justified. I am totally against the bailout - let the market correct itself and it will. There has been entirely too much credit given to people who shouldn't have received it.  People and business with good credit won't have any problem securing credit. Let's start operating our government like a business instead of a tax payer funded charity. Regards
                             Shirley Stark
Thanks for admitting you didn't see a video of Sarah Palin saying that. You only saw video of other Liberals lying about it. Which is nothing new.

I know what you mean about racist and sexist law makers. Who would have ever thought (well most conservatives already knew) democrats would have launched enough racist and sexist tirades (back during the primaries) that the UN would have to send a human rights inspector. Thanks and have a nice day.

Is there really an Obama Squad to go after anyone who tells the truth? Scary :-)
First point, isn't it amazing the way the DJIA rebounded and the MAJORITY of Finacials after the Feds did NOTHING yesterday?  Where in the Constitution is the Federal Government authorized to use taxpayer money to prop up the financial system?  Sometimes the best thing to do if you want to fix something IS nothing.

Second point, please give equal time to ALL of the candidates running for President and VP.  There are more candidates for office than just the Demopublican and Republicrat.  The way the main stream media outlets are constantly ignoring the Libertarian, Constitution and other candidates is terrible, and shows the media bias against "thinking outside the box".
Brian,
I just watched some old CSPAN coverage of democrats during a government oversight committee meeting(Massachusetts rep. Frank, Missouri rep. Clay, New York rep. Meeks, and others) say that there is nothing wrong with Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae and that Reigns has done an excellent job.  Shouldn't someone ask these leaders why they chose to ignore this?  Type in "Freddie Mac" on Youtube and you'll find the clips.
Hello Brian,
There's been an email circulating about giving a bailout to the American people. I find it simply amazing the ideas that people come up with. The email states instead of bailing out wall-street, giving the taxpayers a bailout I've seen numbers from $50,000 to $297,000 for each working adult. I don't think it would really ever happen. But, can you imagine the possibilities? Nevermind what would you do with $700 billion rather what would 200,000,000 people do with $100,000? Think about what an economic stimulus that would be! If the American Government even consider the concept the return on that investment would surely boost the economy.
How about NBC trying to be non-partisan and tell the truth about Obama?  How about telling people that Clinton put thru the largest tax increase in history?  How about telling folks that Clinton's White House put pressure on lending institutions to give every one a loan so all could have a house even if they couldn't afford it?  How about telling folks that Obama got the 2nd highest amount of money from Fannie Mae?  How about telling people about his true voting record - that he hardly ever voted actually - and that he voted to increase taxes on the middle class starting at $46,000?  How about doing some honest research on Obama and tell the truth about him and his connections with ACORN (now charged with voter registration fraud among other things) and scheduled to receive a sizable chunk of money made from the bail-out? How about telling the truth about his connection to William Ayers (their children did not go to school together - difference between elementary school and high school)  In other words, quit misleading the people about Obama.  Do you have the guts to tell the truth?  We'll see.
Governor Palin has emphasized that she is like "joe sick pack" americans, and that it is about time they have a voice in the White House.  However isn't common practice to want the smartest people making the decisions for the nation instead of the "average joe"?
Frankly, Mr. Williams, I don't want you to interview Gov. Palin, as I do not believe you are capable of giving her a fair interview.

I have been appalled at your coverage and that of many NBC reporters during this election.  Your political slant has been so obviously pro-Obama/ anti-McCain, that it crosses the line to me of unethical reporting, not just a personal bias.

NBC has been my favorite channel for decades, but now I find it difficult to watch NBC or MSNBC because of your unbalanced questioning.  This type of reporting is not what I was taught when I went to journalism school or - horrors - even what I learned about campaigning when I worked in Washington politics.   It crosses the line.

If paid channels like FOX or CNN want to slant the news, perhaps they can get away with it since the public pays for those views.  NBC is supposed to be a national network.  I expect fair, equitable, balanced reporting and a different standard of excellence from you.   I remain very disappointed.

Why should Sarah Palin appear on your network after last night.  You implied that McCain and all the other survivors of the Hanoi Hilton lied about the abuse because the guy running the place said it didn't happen.  Couldn't the "impartial" reporter have followed up and asked about the soldiers who died in that hell hole? This network is now a joke.
Please ask Sarah Palin if she can articulate yet the job description of the Vice President. Ask her to be specific. Thanks.
Hello Mr. Williams

I would like to thank you for providing the best news coverage every night. I have one complaint about Wednesday Oct 1st nightly news. At the end of the broadcast you showed Chicago and their two baseball teams in the playoffs (Cubs & WhiteSox), you mentioned NYC not having the same thing because they are another city with two teams. I would like to remind you that the great city of Los Angeles does have two teams as well in the playoffs, Dodgers and Angels, I guess you have forgotten about us in the west...Go Freeway Series..Nirpal Missan
Hi Bryan,
Why does the cost of the war in Iraq keep coming up & no one has asked the current Congess & Senators why it wasn't written into the support of the war, that Iraq, being as wealthy in oil as they all know it is, didn't insist that we ( the US ) get reimbursed at some point for all or some of this expense so we can support our own infrastructure?
In the end all and be all of vice presidential politics, Sarah Palin won the debate tonight, she was strong, persuavive AND won the debate, hands down........if anyone is considering who they should vote for, consider ACORN, consider who and why the mortgage crisis exists...look beyond tonight and discern why the credit crises actually exists........look beyond the present wisdom concerning why and where we are in the middle east...if you look at why Obama is where he is now, who financed his college career, who financed his law school, who is still financing his campaign..look for all the foreign sources of his campagn financing that he wil not! divlulge.........maybe, just maybe...you should think about who is pushing and financing this new-socialist before you vote,,,I certainly have!!!!!
Brian, I just saw you on David Letterman.  You said that you were comparing this election to the Eisenhower/Kennedy election.  Now you tell me, when did Eisenhower and Kennedy run against each other?  In 1960 the election was between Kennedy and Nixon.  Perhaps you should ask Sarah Palin what she thinks about the Eisenhower/Kennedy election.
Mr. Williams, I have been watching you for years thinking that you were a person  of integrity, that has all but gone away.  You treat Obama as if  he were king yet at the same time belittle an American hero.  I am a person who has gone through hell, 2 purple hearts and a bronze star, and to see you belittle a man such as John McCain, in my mind makes you un american.  Also saw the take you did on Governer Palin on the Letterman show, and do not respect you or the idiot Letterman for it.  I guess you don"t really have the guts to come out and simply say I am for Obama.  By the way, next time you talk to him ask that if elected he will put his hand on the Bible or the Koran.
I wouldn't expect anything different of anything connected with you.
Brian,
It's no surprise to me that you can't get an interview
with Gov. Palin, because the fact you are an NBC anchor and should be neutral especially on the air, and are anything but, and also putting her down on the
David Letterman show, is absolutely disgusting.  He is
also disgusting making fun of Sen. McKean and Pres.
Bush is very Unamerican and shows ignorance.  I used
to be a listener of your news shows, but no longer.
Gov. Palin has more class in her little finger than
you and Letterman together.  Tom Brokaw was always
neutral in his reports, but you are so slanted to the
left it makes me sick.  You should be an intelligent
man. I'm surprised of your stupidity.
My question is for Sen. Obama. How can you say you are the champion of the economy when you worked for and supported groups like Acorn. They provided low income families loans for houses by strong arming banks to give people bad loans. You can be one of causes of the problem.
Hey Brian,
I love ya and watch you every night but I have to say the news slant has increasingly gone visibly left.  Particularly, Chuck Todd.  I really miss Tim Russert.  He may have been liberal himself but he somehow was always able to present the political facts without seeming so.  Now, I don't dislike Chuck but he definitely comes off as a democrat and always focuses on the negatives of McCain while glossing right over Obama.
During the primaries, Sen. McCain stated that he would not run a smear campaign; that he would keep it about the issues and not make personal attacks.  It appears to me that the current tactic of questioning Obama's character by bringing up associations with Ayers is doing exactly what he said he would not.  This is the old political paradigm that needs to go. It seems to me that McCain and Palin are running an old-style, old-world, old-paradigm campaign.  The people are so sick of politics as usual and McCain-Palin don't appear to even grasp that they are playing politics as usual represented by relying on the bullying swagger of personality and personal attacks.  I don't know what question to ask Gov. Palin exactly, except that I want her and McCain to respond to this issue.  It bothers me that journalists are not discussing the irony that McCain-Palin on running on a change platform and are running the same old tired appearance driven campaign that focuses on manipulating images and identities rather than telling us what they'll do for the country.
Has the news gone totally fake?  What is this new Michelle Kosinski piece about Global Warming?  And you guys keep someone who will stage anything in the name of delivering a news piece?  Give me a break, Brian!  Whatever happened to the concept of credibility?  Is it dead?  I think, I'm going back to Charlie Gibson.  At least, ABC doesn't invent the news!
