ABOUT THIS BLOG

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

We are on the beautiful... and historic campus of the University of Mississippi for tonight's first Presidential Debate. For our team, its been a 3-day odyssey from Texas to Washington to Mississippi, all the while juggling the mammoth stories we've been following: the titanic struggle going on in Washington, the sense of suspended animation in the credit markets, and the dwindling number of days remaining until Americans make their choice for President. We are preparing our debate preview for tonight's broadcast, then we'll be back on the air for the real thing at 9pm Eastern time tonight. Thanks for being with us tonight -- what's a week without at least one multi-city road trip? Have a great weekend.

I would like to know why, after over 30 yrs. in the senate, Mr.McCain has not taken any responsibility for paying back the over 30 billion that the congress has borrowed from the social security trust fund. As I see it, he is part of the problem and doesn't want to be part of the solution. He appears very obsessed about foreign affairs, but has little compassion for the economy. Well I have a flash for him and his allies. If the economy is not straightened out real fast, nobody will have to wory about foreign affairs. We will be overrun by every country that wants a piece of the good old USA.
what's going on with Tom Brokaw as the primary responder to the debate?  Did he watch the same thing I did?  His comments centered around "McCain really went after him..."  He did??  I didn't see any sort of focused sharp comments from McCain.  And then he had nothing good to say about Obama.  This blatant prejudice has no place on a national network.  I'll be watching CBS or ABC for future debates.  Both had a much more reasoned and intelligent response.
As a former crew member of the USS Intrepid I am going to New York on Thursday to Man the Rail with about 200 other former crew members for the emotional, for me, return of the "Mighty I" to its refurbished home on the Hudson. This will be a once in a life time experience for this United States sailor, as well as all the others who will stand tall on the rails, to celebrate the last movement of one of the most decorated ships in World War 2 in the forseable future.
I know Brian features pieces on the Nightly News about veterans and was wondering if NBC will be covering this historic moment on Thursday. I am asking this because if in fact there will be a piece on the Mighty I, I would record the show for my veiwing pleasure and memories.
Thank you
