Ringing in

When young volunteers in the U.S. Navy Seal training program, known by the acronym BUDS, decide that due to fatigue or injury or family crisis they must leave the program, they must "ring out" by ringing a bell in the courtyard. Tonight, John McCain does the opposite -- as I struggle here to employ a Navy theme -- by ringing in, (didn't another Navy man once say "reporting for duty"?) and making his speech to the party faithful and the American faithful. When we all leave here, there will be 61 days remaining until Americans get to decide on the next President. The story here -- as it is across much of the country -- is Governor Palin's speech from last night.

We're all gathered inside the arena, while outside there are protesters trying to make their way into downtown St. Paul. From here tonight, we fly to Los Angeles (after our prime time coverage of the McCain speech) where Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson and I will host tomorrow evening's live special, Stand Up To Cancer. Miles to go before we sleep. Miles to go before we sleep. Speeches to cover before we fly -- and we hope you can join us for BOTH of our broadcasts tonight.

shame on you for not covering Mrs. McCain's presentation. ( I flipped over to check-I watch Foxnews)  Shame for not covering the full two hours of GOP convention.  You want us to be informed yet you had interviews going on while speakers were presenting.  All the major networks are bias.
By the way ?? use Baraka Hussein Obama's full name.  (what's in a name???scary-)
reply to Doug R don't forget the income bracket ofthe majority of Demo:  Obama, Kennedy, Clinton, Kerry etc
the list goes on - they are in the top incomes too.
Why is it that Kieth Olbermann looks like he is chewing unripe lemons when he is discussing Sarah Palin's speeches. Is she that distastful?
I don't recall you asking two black people their differing opinions of Obama like you did with the two females last night.  One woman was positive about Palin, the other was negative on Palin. (Asking two random women their opinions was totally worthless reporting anyway!)

You also covered much more of Obama, while covering the Republican convention than covering McCain during the Democratic convention.

I could list many times you have skewed the picture in Obama's favor.  Why can't you report without bias?  (And that includes cnbs reporters who express their political opinions when they should just be reporting the market news!)
Keep up the great work NBC. You are a millon miles from the one sided reporting found over on FOX.
How transparent is Brian Williams in his reporting after the Sarah Palin speech? He chose to share a very negative blog.  Let me guess… he had no others to choose from? He had a choice and it was obvious what his intentions were.  Just like the rest of the media and their spin. The Democratic National Convention coverage was played on more networks than the Republican Convention….hummm. Again a calculated move. This is so sad on many levels.  You had the integrity to point out prior emails of the inequities of air-time between Obama and McCain on your broadcast but I guess you did not learn. I think I need to look elsewhere for unbiased news and so should others. Brian get back to reporting the news and not spinning it, it is unbecoming to you.
I am sick and tired of listening to the liberal bias during the Republican Convention. NBC has to find something to complain about or pick at during the convention. If Obama had a green screen behind him during the Democratic Convention, ya'll would have said that it was in reference to Obama's plan of "change" to bring more money in and balance the national budget. Comparing Palin to Clinton is a no brainer. Palin has done things that Clinton would not even attempt to do. The closest that Clinton has gotten to a gun is inside her head. I'm 16 years old and I am not fooled by the hyped up message of change. Change is a very broad term that is being used to sell young Americans the idea that everything is going to be all better.
Andrea Mitchell's comment on Governor Palin,  "She is not appealing to the same women who were really voting or supporting Hillary Clinton on ideological issues but they think that they can peel off some of these working class women, not college educated, who, the blue collar women who were voting for Hillary Clinton and may be more conservative on social causes.", is overtly offensive, as well as NBC, and MSNBC's bias reporting.

I am a college-educated female and I am a Systems Analyst at a Software Development company.  I was a Senator Clinton supporter, but when Senator Clinton lost, I found myself in a situation where I didn't know for whom I would vote.  Thought Obama was a Democrat, I could not see myself voting for him, but I was having a difficult time with the alternative... voting for Senator McCain.  I spending a great amount of time and in research, I began to lean towards Senator McCain; after the Saddleback Forum, I had decided to support & vote for Senator McCain.  When Senator McCain announced Governor Palin as his VP I was cautiously optomistic.  After additional research and then the Convention, I was sold on the McCain/Palin ticket 100%    I will not only vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, I will contribute and work ardently for them, as many of my friends.

While I have been blessed with an education and a wonderful career, this does not mean that I am more intelligent than the individual that does not have an education and/or career.  For some reason, the media elite have confused education with intelligence; I learned many years ago that there are more educated idiots occupying high-level positions than I want to even think about.

Ms. Mitchell's offensive comment spans and attacks all socioeconomic levels. She is the prime example of the caliber of Obama's supporters; her comment was as elitist as Obama's "clinging to their guns and relgion" comment.  I have voted democratic for the past 5 elections; I was an avid support of President Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry; but I will no longer support the Democratic Party.

Over this election year I had considered turning off any NBC affiliated stations and websites; after Andrea Mitchell's comment, that is just what I will do; as so many of my friends.

I am disgusted by the bias in reporting shown by NBC.  I have been a loyal viewer for years but will no longer be part of your audience as many of my friends.  Your comments are demeaning and disrespectful of the republican candidates.  You certainly didn't treat Obama and company with the same viciousness nor did you ask him any hard questions about his background, associations, etc.  Please drop the pretense of "objective" journalism. Most Americans can see through the bias and I believe over time your station will feel the audience disgust. Between you and Andrea Mitchel and others on NBC and MSnbc YOU HAVE lost my respect.  Too bad Andrea Mitchell didn't stay "lost in the balloon downdraft" as you reported the last night of the convention!
Brian, why hasn't any of the media been covering the fact that the House Republicans have been protesting on the House floor for 5 weeks?  The Democrats say they're going to do everything they can to get the energy crisis handled - so what did they do?  They went on vacation - they'll come back Sept. 8, work for 15 days then leave again.  Add to that Pelosi's trip to Japan this week, at the taxpayer's expense.  Where's this "concern" for the taxpayer?  Everyone is saying they'll change how Washington works - well, I guess the Republicans have shown their the only ones who truly mean it!

Pelosi refused to allow the Republican's "All of the Above" energy bill to even get to the floor for debate and voting.  I'm proud that the Republicans stayed, I support their energy bill and strongly support their stance that the energy bill will not pass unless it's a bipartisan plan.
News flash for Andrea Mitchell: WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, baby! Only uneducated women will vote for McCain/Palin? What rock do you live under? You are the epitome of everything (and there is plenty) that is wrong with the leftist media. Honey, your elitism is showing! I can't help wondering who all of you think you're writing for, talking to. There's a whole great big population out here in Wonderland and none of you seem to have any understanding of that. I had no idea that your jobs were supposed to be about telling me what to think. Oh yeah, I see! I'm so stupid and uneducated that you feel a holy duty to tell me, since I'm such a dullard, what to think, how to feel, what to say. Out of touch doesn't begin to describe you people. Mr. Williams, "go Blue" is quitie frankly a totally unacceptable lack of control on your part. Anyone who doesn't seem to be able to discern your political flavor has no discernment skills at all. You all but shout your position on many, many occasions. Who, what, where, when, why. Try to remember those. Until you've got that part down, I can't think of a single reason to tune in.
It's just so sad what has happened to MSNBC with the likes of Tom Brokaw, Andrea Mitchell, Keith Olbermann, Brian Williams,Rachel Maddow, and on and on and on.  It is frustrating to hear their promotion of Obama and their extreme bias.  I am so disappointed with this station.
For years MSNBC has been mainly the only station I kept on, but now it has just turned into a show only for the Democrats.  It would make anyone turn Republican and just is such a let down.
On a recent newscast you had a man who is designing an artifical arm and hand that has moveable fingers.  Is there a website for him or an area where one could read the article.  I might have a need for that hand/arm.
Assuming McCain/Palin wins in November, will Sarah Palin resign if she is found guilty of a crime? Is it fair to ask John McCain who he might choose next?
Dear Today Show and NBC Nightly News staff,

I have been an avid daily watcher of the Today Show for the past 20+ years - the same goes with the NBC Nightly News in the evening.   Brian Williams and Matt Lauer are particularly impressive, and I have always felt that NBC tries to hold a standard with regard to fair and complete reporting.
I was very troubled by the coverage of the RNC convention and the lack of inclusion of what are apparent facts regarding discrepancies with who Sarah Palin says she is (a no earmarks, anti-big-spending conservative reformer) and what she has actually done and how she has behaved in her past offices.    I began to hear more about her record on CNN, the Associated Press and other print news vehicles, NPR, and finally on ABC. I got tired of hearing only about the highly irrelevant pregnant daughter and supposed "Mommy War" that probably only 5% of women really care deeply about, and wanted to hear what this woman stands for in terms of governance and policies.   You had relevant information that should have been shared with the public and did not include it.
We all know Palin will "work hard" and is "spirited" and "tough" - fine.   The question is who is she and how has she governed during the past few years?   Not once on the Today Show was there mention of her earmarks for Wasilla ($27 million for a city of 5000???) no fact-checking on those speeches (e.g. the misleading tax cut/increase message in McCains claims) and no mention at all about other questionable things that go against the image conveyed to us by the RNC.    I now find myself moving more and more to hearing news from other organizations that will give me the complete picture.
I'm so energized by Palin's pick. I think McCain is too liberal, and I pledged to sit out this election if he chose another liberal running mate. But he surprised me! He chose the one woman with whom I identify, politically, to the greatest extent possible.

I've been waiting a lifetime for a strong conservative woman who cherishes her faith, her 2nd amendment rights, and will fight the pork barrell spending and cronysim that pervades politics in America. WOW! Sarah Palin for President!
Mr. Williams

MSNBC in short order has turned from a "must watch" channel to a "cant watch" channel. I changed from CNN to MSNBC years back but since this race started its been very tough to watch MSNBC.
In my humble opinion this is the most important election since 1980. I have flipped back to MSNBC a number of times during this race as my desire for information and facts from all media outlets is at an all time high. As hard as I've tried to find value in MSNBC's coverage, I cant get past my anger at MSNBC's bias. I dont need to be told what to think. I just need someone with personality to give me the facts so I can form my own humble opinion.  Mr. Olberman and Ms. Maddow, I find especially offensive. Mr. Matthews has flashes of being nuetral but always ends a segment with you knowing his opinion. The rest of the cast seems to follow the anchors lead leaving no balance. It seems top brass at MSNBC likes this format as they have rewarded Ms. Maddow with her own show. Mr. Olberman already has his own show. Is this the direction MSNBC should be going? Please give my voice some weight as I wish for the MSNBC of old.
Thank you
Brian,

Could someone please ask Sarah Pail when she believes that the world was created? Not a generality, but in her beliefs approx. when?

These people complaining about Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews should turn to Fox News--who has the GOP bias just how they apparently like it!  I was thinking that FINALLY a news station is standing up to the Karl Rove-Nazi news tactics of the GOP when you caved into the same pressure and dumped Olbermann and Matthews.  What a shame.
Do you think NBC and MSNBC could possibly diss and dismiss McCain and Palin with more vigor? I don’t believe your networks have given their all to this endeavor. Balanced nonpartisan reporting would be a refreshing change for people who want to think for themselves instead being fed a daily barrage of “news” stories by journalists who continue doing everything humanly possible to influence and engineer the outcome of this presidential election. You insult the intelligence of your audience.

In my journalism courses, I learned that a primary tenet of journalistic integrity is leaving bias out of stories. Present both sides and allow the reader/viewer to make up his/her own mind. (Bias is for editorials.) Do you think we don’t realize that you choose what to emphasize in every newscast from the topic to the carefully-chosen words denigrating candidates you abhor. Your “analysts” barely disguise their own preferences. Like a dog going back to a bone, the “news” media just could not resist repeating again and again the fact that Palin’s unmarried teenage daughter is five months pregnant. Obama commented that families should be off limits, but the media continued bringing up her pregnancy for a week.

Tonight, your newscast sought to “find answers” to burning questions about Palin and spent the first 12 minutes (by my clock) systematically raking her over the coals. As your reports droned on, I discovered that both CBS and ABC were featuring stories about Hurricane Ike and Kim Jong-il. When I switched back to NBC, you were still focused on Palin. NBC is in good company, however. I’ve been listening to NPR’s All Things Considered while driving home in the afternoons and after more than 20 years of pledging on a monthly basis, I will be ending that association shortly. We will not be renewing our subscription to Newsweek (subscribers for some 30 years now) when it runs out next spring. We are finding a better balance in Time these days. For the record, I’m not a fan of Fox News -- NBC has been my news network of choice for years and I still respect David Gregory and Tom Brokaw because they don’t wear their politics on their sleeves. However, NBC is about to go the way of NPR and Newsweek for me. Your interpretation -- and that's what it is -- of what constitutes news has worn out its welcome.
Dear Mr. Williams,

We all have been watching the problems with our financial system.  I have been watching all the discussion on future regulations - this is certainly what we will need to do.

As you know, problems like this have happened before with the same reaction from the government but only to find oursevles in new situations as times go on.   One area that I never see discussed is the country's accounting system - Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).  We continue to allow our companies to account for their business with far to many "non-cash" items.   Although there are definitely legitimate non-cash items such as depreciation, there are far too many examples that FASB allows.

I hope that FASB is reviewed during this process - changes to FASB can be permanent corrections to the system!
Tonight (9-23-08) you stated that you did not understand the current financial crises. I highly recommend that you (and every other American) read Robert Kuttner "The Squandering of America". I have just finished it and found that the author explains the problem in very clear language and provides political remedies. The country must return to managed capitalism.
