First impressions in New Orleans

Don Teague, NBC News Correspondent

They’re taking security seriously in New Orleans. I flew in this morning, and the first thing I noticed were massive amounts of police officers at the airport. Not just local, many wore federal uniforms — from Air Marshals to Homeland Security. It’s an impressive show of force, and not just at the airport.

On the drive into the city, I saw local police agencies out in force, and once in the downtown area, National Guard soldiers were everywhere. Considering the lack of real security during the height of the Katrina chaos, it seems officials are hoping the situation here will remain under control.

Brian, will NBC allow Keith Olbermann to turn the upcoming hurricane into a five days of nasty partisan propoganda?

MSNBC has already damaged the NBC News brand enough.
Brian, I want you to share this comment with Tom Brokow....

Gentlemen, I have in the past respected you both for the job you do. This week, I followed both NBC news and MSNBC and I was shocked at the differene. I really try to watch MSNBC, Keith O. and Mathews, but I do not trust their opinions and judgement.

On the other hand I trust you and Tom, and I really hope that you do not become too closely associated with what I see as a very biased representation of the facts by Keith.. In fact If I was were your boss and as a viewer, I guess I am, I suggest that you let it be known that you are your own reporter and for I NEVER want you to become like Keith.

I do not personally know him or dislike him, but that is beginning to change to the negative, It seems everytime I watch Keith  I wish I had not.  Sooo, there is a message here for you...

Be the leader you are paid to be and never ever be sucked into the view of those around you like Keith, Mathews and others with an agenda.

Be true to you craft and responsibility to deliver the facts.

end.
Lester,

I concure with Mike R, he really needs his own channel but to defend your brand I must say we all have choices in our selection of newsstations rather than gripe.
Olberman tells it like it is!
Lester, GOD BE WITH YOU and everyone that is in the path of Gustav. I will be praying for you ALL.
Mike R,

Please, The only reason why the "Republicans" President Bush and all of his cronies are doing anything about Hurricane Gustav is nothing but pure "Politics."

Why does Bush care now, after seven years seven months in office what happens with Hurricans. I can tell you why.. He wants to get his "Boy" McCain elected. The republicans don't want another Hurrican disaster "Katrina" on their watch.
Will Brian allow some truth  to breach the corporate veil of protection allowed the Cheney administration through the broadcast of Keith. Most people swallow the same whitehouse drivel because they're brainwashed by the take over of the right wing on radio. NBC is as close as I've seen to non-partisan of all the major networks.
Where do I post my comments for tonight's broadcast (9/1/2008)?

I was amazed how NBC presented the much weakened storm front on New Orleans.  It was obvious that a stronger storm would have caused similar devastation as did Katrina three years ago.  The lives would have been spared, but the damage would be similar.  It would be nice to have more straight forward reporting.  Hold back on the ridiculous pieces, such as Anne Curry's interview looking for something more tragic than reality provided.
Oh, boo-frickety hoo, you stupid, liberal whiner.

All you liberals and all the rest of you blind, stupid, clueless, "obama-maniac" are nothing but hypocrites, liars and fools!!!  And MSNBC is one of your favorite "official mouthpieces".   Blah...blahh...blah.....That's all you really have to say.
I'm sure my last comment won't get approved.  It's obvious by reading the other "comments", that only your liberal "choir members" get their "comments" through......Or, should I say more accurately,  their blatherings!
It's funny how Brian Williams was all full of fire last week at the DNC and now he's at the RNC an looks like he's sleeping. I wish these news agentices would play fair politics. They all look like they hate to even be there and it sure is showing on the television
Dear Brian Williams,
I have heard anyone discuss the look of the people in that RNC convention.  They hardly any Afican-Americans, in the audience or in the entire building.  It was a prime example of how noninclusive and elite they appeared.  It made me so uncomfortable, almost to the point of fear.  Their looks gave me the creeps.  Sara Paulin's speech was dismal and spiteful.  Nothing for the people of America but jokes, no solution at all, none, nota!
Difference between Democratic and Republican conventions:  In Denver, the radical extremists were inside a fence 700 ft from the door.  In Minneapolis, the radical extremists were on the floor of the convention, and to appease them it was necessary to select one of their own as vice-presidential nominee.
McCain said while I was a POW I broke, can somebady explain?
