ABOUT THIS BLOG

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

"Berlin, Dresden, Nuremberg."

That's what the massive sign read as I started north toward Berlin this morning on the Autobahn. Looking at the countryside en route here, its impossible not to think of the military struggles on this soil, and the American lives lost here in both World Wars.

It's also impossible not to notice the advances and the technology across Europe -- the scene changes so quickly and from trip to trip. The most striking sight today was the massive windmills, churning in groups of six on various hillsides along the way. They are larger than anything I've seen in the U.S. The highway was spotless and without a pothole or a rough patch over the entire length of the drive...so was it the case driving in Spain a few days ago.

As my wife and I were on vacation here in Europe, it was an easy proposition to peel off and come to Berlin to cover this leg of Senator Obama's overseas trip. We'll do the broadcast from the Reichstag here in Berlin for the next two nights -- tomorrow night's broadcast will feature our interview with the Senator after his outdoor speech tomorrow.

Senior Producer Subrata De just snapped a photo of me as I write this post, looking out at the Brandenburg Gate -- as I pointed out in my video blog earlier today, its the first time I've been here since November 9th of 1989 -- when I chipped off my own piece of the wall as it literally tumbled down before our eyes. What a different city this is.

It's great to be back -- my thanks to the fabulous Ann Curry for filling in -- we'll look for you tonight from Berlin.

Posture, Brian, posture! Your hunching at the laptop makes my own back hurt!

Safe travels-
You were missed and Ann did a great job.  Now to business Brian make sure you acknowledge Senator Hagel on this trip as Obama included Republicans. I was glad to hear Obama say he would protect the Americana's citizens interest and not let the Pentagon just spend money without accountability. Iraq is rich with oil but taxpayers are giving Iraq 10 billion a week without anything paid back. Our troops are being killed by being in the middle of this mess and even by contractors who committed fraud.

Brian I hope no one calls you a fake Journalist, I'd be very angry. To bad Katie messed up again with her interview with Senator Obama. I know you'll make us proud and give the questions we want asked and give your usual fair/balanced report.

Poor John McCain he just can't win for losing. Every time he opens his mouth he makes a mistake that has to be corrected.

Bush will have the taxpayers bail out the foreclosure fraud committed by bank CEO's and other friends of the White House. Next taxpayers will have to bail out the contractors who were given billions for doing nothing. Then it's the lawsuits filed to pay for the crimes the White House and friends have committed. When Iraq sues the US for the illegal invasion, murders of innocent people, damage to their country the US taxpayers will pay for that too. In short the 10 Trillion dollar debt will have to be paid by US taxpayers as the Foreign share holders buy up the United States.

Bush is said to pardon all the GOP/Friends/White House staff who committed crimes over the pass 7 years. Yes even all the department employees of the Government and Law Makers plus Bush will pardon himself and Cheney for their crimes.

Brian stay safe and give two thumbs up to Senator Hagel he's my homeboy.

Best to Lisa, Laural, Stephanie, Claudia, Anne and Matt
Good Evening Mr.Williams, I missed seeing you on Nightly News! Ann Curry did a wonderful job as usual filling in for you the last several newscasts. I really enjoyed your video blog and knowing from the blog you and your wife were on vacation in Europe I hope you had a restful and nice time. Long time not visiting the area since 1989 when the Berlin wall came down. Alot has changed including the Starbucks on the corner you so nicely pointed out in the video. I like the photograph your Senior Producer Subrata De took of you sitting writing the blog. Must be a very good view! I know you will do a fine job interviewing Senator Obama on Thursday. Saved the best news anchor for last! Looking forward to the broadcast. Peace to you and to all!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Celine,Claudia,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
XOXO
Hi Brian and great "Hallo Herr Williams" to my home country and a great "Guten Tag" to all viewers from NBC Nightly News. This is the first broadcast after the fall of the Berlin Wall as I can remember, so "Herzlich Willkommen in Deutschland". Thank you NBC for doing this two times this week.

As a remembrance for you Brian: There was no military confrontation during the Cold War in East Germany where you are located. No American military base is located in East Germany because of the 2+4 contract. And the windmills are a reminder that Germany is one of the most advanced nations in producing renewable energy in the world.

So again, a great "Willkommen" to Mr. Williams and the NBC crew to Germany. A great thing of yours as you were reporting on European issues from London and not from Berlin, a thing you should more frequently do as 60 million Americans have a German heritage inside their families.

You read a sign from my federal state's capital Dresden which is the capital of the beautiful state Saxony. I hope you had visited the new American embassy near the NBC office in Berlin near the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and National Holocaust Memorial. There's all German history combined (German Empire, Nazi Germany and Federal Germany). I hope you will interview some German commentators from German TV stations about the coverage of the Presidential Elections 2008 in my home country.
Hi Brian,
So great to see your friendly face on the web-site....enjoyed the video .....a Starbucks... amazing!
There is so much history there for you to experience. Have a wonderful vacation. The weather looks great for you.
Thanks for taking time off from your holiday to report back to us. We all love, that you love your job so very much that you don't even think of it as "work",do you!
We will all be watching tonight as you broadcast from Germany.
Hopefully Obama will not pull a JFK and proclaim to the German people that he is indeed a jelly doughnut, (The June 26, 1963 West Berlin speech in which he said "Ich bin ein Berliner" aka "I am a jelly doughnut").  I know, I know, it's an urban legend and grammatically correct.  But it's still funny.
Dear Brian,

Good to hear from you!  I'd been wondering where you were, and hoping you were traveling with Obama, as opposed to having a personal crisis again - like your father being ill.  (I hope he is well).

What a gorgeous view of the Brandenburg Gate you have from your hotel room!  Yes, November 9, 1989....  That was my best friend from high school's 19th birthday.  We celebrated that weekend by going to see U2's "Rattle & Hum" at the movies, which is totally frivolous by comparison, but I assure you, we were not oblivious to the world's events!

I will miss the live broadcast tonight, as I have a work function to attend, but I will catch it later on videotape, since I am a total loser, and still own a VCR.  Just not curious enough about the whole TiVo thing.  Maybe next millennium!  Ha, ha.

Btw, congratulations to Mr. Jay Barbree on his anniversary with NBC.  I can't imagine working anywhere for 50 years!  He seems like such a fine gentleman.

To Marc from Germany:  Andrea Mitchell is the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, and Richard Engel is the Chief Foreign Correspondent.  (I've seen it bungled numerous times recently on both NBC, and MSNBC).  Once upon a time, Ms. Mitchell used to mostly cover the State Department, and Secretary Rice's comings and goings, but I guess with this being an election year, everyone has been tasked with "other duties as assigned."  I, probably like you, would have preferred to see Richard Engel reporting on the Middle Eastern portion of Obama's tour, but I am totally biased!  :-)

To all who may be interested:  C-SPAN2 is broadcasting the House Armed Services Committee hearing on progress in Iraq tonight at 8:00 p.m., and C-SPAN is showing the Senate hearing on defense contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan at 12:20 a.m. Thursday.  Should be interesting viewing.

To the girls:  I do not think I can finish Richard Engel's book.  It is just too painful:  after I read his recollection of falling in love with Marla Ruzicka, only for her to be murdered by a suicide bomber a short time later, I literally felt sick to my stomach.  How someone's heart can hold that much pain is beyond me.  My heart aches for Richard, and for everyone who has lost a loved one to the wars in Iraq and elsewhere.  God bless.

Lots of love to my dear friends Lisa, Jackie, Stephanie, Celine, Claudia, Anna, and Matt.  You are all so special.  XOXO
If oil prices go down while Obama is visit the Middle East and other over countries, let's send him over once a month. Enjoy Europe.

Hi Brian, you should also try watching German television news at 6:45 pm or 7:00 pm or 8 pm on RTL, ZDF or ARD if you can understand some German. So Good Luck or Viel Glück
Something bad is up at NBC. Your blog, First Read, promised Nightly News would report the new poll result which found that 60% of Americans support a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq while 30% believe its a bad idea. That's tremendous support for Obama's position. The timeline issue has been at the core of the entire week's news coverage. McCain centered his campaign on opposing the timeline. The poll result is big news out here on the web.

NBC NEWS DID NOT INCLUDE THIS RESULT ON THE NIGHTLY NEWS.

This is more proof NBC is biased in favor of McCain. Somebody up top must have got to this  poll story before the public had a chance to find out the truth.

Dear Brian:
Thanks for the great centerpiece of an article called "American's Squezed."  Contrary to popular belief America has been getting squeezed for the last 15 years.  You pose a lot of questions and have zero answers.  This is all new revelation to you.  THans for nothing.  We been living this for many years watching the middle class diminish.  Thanks for the new revelation.  Next time save it for someone who who believes your b.s.
Regarding the segment tonight about a human rights group giving camcorders to Palestinians so they can protect themselves from attacks, I believe NBC left out an important detail. Despite the Israeli government's typical "we'll investigate this incident" response, it would have been prudent to mention that the soldier was released back to his unit just a few days ago and there were no charges.

This was reported by a prominent Israeli newspaper called Haaretz:

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1004040.html
Good Evening Mr.Williams, It is great to see you on the broadcast this evening! Ann Curry did do a fabulous job filling in for you! First of all the report by Andrea Mitchell concerning Senator Obama's visit to Israel showed him in very important places like the Holocaust Memorial laying a wreath, in the area where many conflicts with Hamas took place and meeting with a family who suffered greatly because of the attacks. This is a dangerous region and Iran does pose a threat if they develop nuclear weapons. Hopefully, there will be no attacks on this region, but tensions are high and caution should always be taken. He seemed to spend much time meeting with political leaders and gaining knowledge of the ways of Middle East diplomacy. Much to learn in an extremely tumultuous world. On another report relating to the Middle East the In Depth report by Mr.Fletcher was most interesting. The Palestinians given small video cameras to record violent incidents may help to curb attacks on thec people. The scenes shown were quite disturbing, but only prove the incidents are happening and the attackers were arrested. The young woman feartured in the piece was certainly brave to capture the horrible footage. Some tension with the shepherd and his sheep over whether he should be in that area, yet it ended without anyone getting hurt. These cameras seem to make the people feel safer and hopefully decrease attacks.
On the subject of weather, Hurricane Dolly was tough on the Texas coast today with 100mph winds and huge amounts of rain. I hope people are able to recover quickly from all the damage made by the storm. Mr Teague certainly braved mother nature in all the wind and rain.
Finally, hearing that Mr.Russert has a stretch of highway 20A named after him is just wonderful! And it passes by the Buffalo Bills stadium. The Timothy J., Russert Highway, a very special stretch of highway. he is looking down and smiling! Nice tribute!
Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams from Berlin. Looking forward to the interview tomorrow with Senator Obama. Peace to you and to all!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Celine,Claudia,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!

I am constantly amazed at modern technology.I sit in front of my TV in Atlanta-land and watch the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams who is half way around the world "live and in living color". I used to try to explain to my mother my interpertaion of techical advancements over the years but she never really could get a handle on it. Now, to the news: Berlin, Germany....serene, peaceful and beautiful. My, my, how time changes things and landscapes.
Dear Brian Williams: the first thing I noticed tonight on Nightly News was that you got a great suntan `looks good on you, good to have you back, but Ann did a great job while you were gone, as usual.  Also a note to Jackie Rawlings, I agree with you Bush will pardon himself, Cheney and and the rest of his criminal clan. I can't wait for that worthless bunch of scumbags to leave the whitehouse.

With regards Martin Fletchers story which aired tonight (7/23/08):

Israelis were shocked by the brutal behavior of their citizens - something noted in passing but crucial to understanding the nature of Israel. Where is the shock of Palestinians at their own depravity as portrayed on NBC? Come to think of it, where is that extended portrayal of a depraved society run by gangs? A society that has for decades raised its children in hate and bigotry (that spells child abuse Marty). Remember the hoots of delight when the missiles shot randomly into populated centers of a democratic state hit their mark?

Fletcher's alliance with one faction of a democratic state -- as extremist as the most extreme left organizations of the US -- and his uncritical, sickly ingratiations towards the Palestinians are paradigmatic of the dinosaur culture of NBC. Brian, hire someone who can report the story fairly. Aren't you a news director?

Martin: stop campaigning for the job of Palestinian propaganda minister. You've got the job -- it is just that NBC is paying the freight and providing the venue.
To Brian Williams and NBC news:
I often hear the conservative pundits criticize NBC for its liberal bias, and I have always felt that the tradition of Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams made a fair attempt at remaining balanced. NBC has been my news of choice up to now. However, your decision to travel "en masse" with CBS and ABC in the Obama entourage gives me grave concern that I can expect a fair assessment from any of the networks. Your decision appears to me to be a bandwagon approach to the Obama campaign, and it would appear as well to reveal your leanings in this most crucial upcoming election. I would guess that the 3 network anchors would never consider doing this on a McCain trip.

I think Cronkite and Murrow are spinning right now.

Not home to see the broadcast tonight.  Hope you and the Mrs. had a good vacation, Brian.  As I've not even really paid attention to the news of the past couple of days (not even local), I have nothing to comment tonight.  Can you imagine???

Laurel, if Richard could manage to finish writing the book, then maybe you can manage to finish reading it?  I'm not picking on you; just a thought that crossed my mind reading your post.  After all, any of us simply reading the book will not know the true depth of pain that someone who's lost loved ones in the conflict will know.  It seems sad to me, particularly because in this war, it seems as if a select few are suffering, whereas if it wasn't for my usual immersion in news, I'd be hard pressed to tell we are a nation at war.  For others in my type of situation, who aren't as much interested in news as I am, they seem to totally forget that we have American family members in pain, suffering, and fear, holding their collective breath until their soldiers come home.  I have GOT to get my hands on that book to read it for myself!

Ah, the boss is back! Ann Curry does a great job filling-in for you, Brian--but I think everyone here is a bit partial to the owner of this blog and his style of news broadcasting with its slightly different pace--crisp and sharp. So--nice to have you back, boss! And it looks like some of those days in Spain were spent on the Costa del Sol! Nice tan! Hope you enjoyed. You more than earned this vacation.

I am going to break my own rule of never criticizing you on this blog. Normally you drop a hint here when you will be off recreating, but nary a peep this time. You must have noticed the number of posts expressing concern that your absence was due to a problem with your Dad's well being. You introduced us to him, so now we know him, and we worry, as I'm sure, you would worry if you learned one of us was in difficulty. So please, next time, allay our anxiety and drop a hint.

If you haven't, do read the comments posted while you were gone. There have been a number of very interesting, very thoughtful posts. The hard news analysts are out, God bless them!

And God bless Martin Fletcher! Except for Jimmy Carter's lonely voice, in this country one would never know there are two sides to the Israel/Palestine conflict and that there is blame to be placed on both sides. Thanks Martin! That was a terrific and courageous report.

Nice also to see Tom Aspell again. His report, and many recent renewable energy related pieces on PBS just make me angry that we seem to do nothing and Congress can't even renew the bill giving tax breaks to those who pursue renewable energy sources here. What is wrong with us? I keep hearing T. Boone Pickens saying we can't drill our way out of this crisis! Monday, I will attend a NY Times Talk featuring Nancy Pelosi. There are two questions I want to see addressed: Why impeachment won't even be considered (I worry about the precedent that the imperial presidency is setting.) and why Congress can't address renewable energy--NOW! I'll let you guys know what is said. And Brian, please stay with this energy story. If we get a drum-beat from all over the place, maybe something will finally be done!

@ Laurel-- I know what you mean about Richard's book. As I said here, I kept having to put it down and walk away, I got so emotional. Sometimes it was pain, sometimes anger, sometimes frustration, but you get to a point where it is just too much. How he ever lived it is beyond me. Probably the video journal served as an outlet, and my mind's eye keeps seeing the video of him whacking the hell out of a punching bag in the gym. Even before he wrote the book, I think we all sensed his own sensitivity to the myriad problems in Iraq which is probably why his reports so resonated with the NN audience and we all embraced him so. I think it is an extraordinary book and much under-appreciated. At least the video version is reaping the awards it is due, but the video is not so nearly comprehensive or as enlightening and revealing as the book. I treasure it. You would laugh if you saw my copy. There is hardly a page without furious hot pink highlighting and comments in the margins. Keep at it if you can--it is worth the pain. He's telling it like it is about a problem that is OURS--one which we cannot ignore. If you cannot continue--at least read Chap. 22--hint: one of my margin comments next to a highlighted section is: Richard's brass _____. You finish the sentence! Then also read the last chapter so you know how it ends.

I was into my maps today and looked up Leonardtown MD. That's a part of Maryland I've never been in! Tell us a little about it sometime!

Brian--good luck with your Obama interview tomorrow. I look forward to it. Kaiser Wilhelm Church possible? By the way--I think Andrea Mitchell has done wonderfully on this trip. I especially enjoyed her speaking out for journalistic integrity on Hardball!

To all--I don't understand the label of lack of foreign policy knowledge put on Sen. Obama. He majored in Foreign Affairs at Columbia. And from what we've seen on this trip, he seems very comfortable with the nuances of diplomacy, a welcome change from what we've got. I wish he was as strong on the economy!

Hello and take care to all the "usual suspects" and that includes our "peripatetic" anchor!

Thanks for your courage in showing the awfully disturbing footage of Palestinians harassed by Israelis. Thank God, at last there seems to be a crack in the taboo on this subject.
Dear Brian Williams. I'm a Venezuelan citizen living in Spain. You have been of my favorites news anchor. Believed or not, I always watch your reports when I visit my family in Miami. Congrtulations for your reports, you sure are a great journalist. Keep it up!
To Lnp: Engel is Chief Foreign Correspondent, ok. And Andrea Mitchell is Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent. Christiane Amanpour on CNN is their Chief International Correspondent. If you call it Chief Foreign Correspondent or Chief International Correspondent it is basically the same. And Amanpour is the highest diplomatic correspondent in the reigns of CNN. So you won't tell me that Engel is lower than Mitchell.

Shame on you NBC, how can you give Obama ads during the Olympic Games in Beijing? The Olympics are already enough politicized by the Chinese government, and don't you remember the world-wide protests during the torch relay. The Olympics have concept to be politically free without interference from politicians and you give him a hotspot during these Games. Shame on you NBC. I know that your parent company GE is one of the largest sponsors of the Games (building venue with plastics etc.) That is such a shame or are you afraid that some American corporations won't buy ads on your network because these Olympics are already tainted with blood of workers and lead of venues in the Chinese capital? How on Earth could you do this? That's a huge nail in the coffin of unbiased journalism in the United States of America, a nation that credits itself with such great names such as Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, New York Times and Time Magazine. Shame on you NBC.
Obama now is a official sponsor of the Olympic Games besides Coca Cola.

Where I got that news you refuse to cover:
http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,567677,00.html
It's from the German magazine "Der Spiegel" which already mistranslated wrong this week. "Der Spiegel" on the world's most investigative weekly news magazines.
Dear Brian, I`m happy to have you back.
Surely Ann did an outstanding role for a few days, but it`s impossible to deny an importance of your existence in Nightly news.
I`ve seen the news about Decision`08 for a few months. Tonight`s broadcast was especially meaningful in terms of two viewpoints. Even in extension of vacation you trailed Senator Obama`s trip comparable with JFK`s visit in 1963 then you showed the real-professional sense as a journalist. And the view from your room is also impressive! Secondly, I`ve seen Tim Russert`s tasks and analysis of campaign for a long time and it was great to mention the rememberance of him. It`s brilliant restart. As I comment my wish, keep your impartiality, accuracy and professional sense with campaign trail as you`ve done well.
You are always the best anchorman for us.
Good luck to your family and staffs in Nightly news.

-From your big fans who are about to be married in New York city
Dear Mr.Williams, Now that Senator Obama is in Berlin I know you will present an excellent interview with him and ask important questions.
I must say you did look very good on the broadcast last evening. Looking forward to the interview.
Peace to you and to all!

Laurel-I know exactly how you feel and I thought exactly the same thing. the loss of her was completely devastating to him. My heart aches very much too for him. Yet, it is an excellent book and he is a wonderful writer. I hope you can read the rest. I think the world of him and wish only beautiful things for him. He is extraordinary person.
God Bless him and everyone who has lost a loved one. I truly hope in my heart this war comes to a peaceful end.
If you remember someone in your heart always their spirit is never really gone.

To all my dear friends on this blog, Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Celine,Claudia,Anna and Matt!
Be Well Always!
XOXO
Anniversary of the Downing Street Memo of 2002. Yes Americans and US Law Makers were given proof of the illegal invasion planned by the Bush Administration before the Plame leak. But the US wouldn't believe this information even with the proof.  Today we see it was correct and now we're paying the price for not holding our President and Law Makers accountable for corrupt conduct.
Just another day in history that shows how we got to the US recession today.
Brian Willaims, I don't expect anymore from you than a try and getcha hit job on Senator Obama. One that will have so called 'Legs' to get corp. media through the ratings week. He has answered the question about the surge, but you don't like the answer. So, may I suggest you and your pundits answer it for him. Loop it, spin it, twirl it to election day. My attention and my families, will be focused on the positive image of our country, he is giving to the world. Spin and rally in your divisiness. Today, I want to smile, maybe even cry a little, to see such positive representation of our country. Promote your McCain afterall, as he continues to say, you guys are his base. We at home see the matrix. Senator Obama must meet the Jesus standard, while McCain just needs to get through a sentence without a mistake. However, if he doesn't, you guys are right there to help him through the night. So uneven. So unfair. We see the matrix. Safe trip Sir.No matter what your report is this evening, I won't be watching. It's not worth my time.
Hello Bryan! I just wanted to thank you for the story on the cameras that were given to the Palestinians to document the Israeli Police State and persecution that these people are under. Not enough attention is given to the Palestinian genocide/holocaust being carried out by Israel. The news and info is so unbalanced and Israel leaning that it's pathetic and an obscenity. These people are being exploited and suffering terribly! Israel has gotten away with their dirty deeds far to long. The American taxpayer needs to see what their $BILLIONS$ are paying for in Israeli aid and what AIPAC is really all about. Why does our country ignore this? Remember Rachel Corrie.

Thanks, Bryan. Glad to have you back.

Mike
There were no Americans who fell during Nuremburg in World War I, as the Armistice was signed before the Allies crossed the Rhine. Mr. Williams needs to check his facts before he gets all discombobulated.
Mr. Williams, I watch all the news outlets, nbc, cbs, abc, fox, and am astouded by the over the top bias of you and nbc. It is obvious you and your news division are in the obama camp. Why dont you just come out and admit it already? Look at the airtime from jan of this year you have give obama vs mccain. Its 3 to 1 in favor of obama. You are trying to sway the election in favor of this man. Here is a thought, why dont you stop the obama love fest and pandering and play it straight for once. You can fool some of the left leaning americans into thinking there is a clear choice, but informed Americans, know better and you should be ashamed of yourself. I figure that this will not even get posted, or better yet i know if will never be seen on nbc nightly news since no one there has the "guts" to go against the Obama machine.
Dear Brian, Since you are in Germany and most assuredly heard the speech given by Senator Obama, are you as embarrased as I am?  Surely he should have given the speech in German. If there is anything to be really embarrassed about it the lack of unbiased journalism coming from NBC and yourself. You are so clearly in the tank for Obama. It's a disgrace to true journalist!
NBC's engenders a comfortable self-limited world here of internally circular "falsified news" by, among other things, spiking stories like Edwards' betrayal of his marriage in favor of pc approved pablum.  NBC's being so clearly in bed with Obama, serving NBC's clear agenda to help Obama at all costs to "journalistic" integrity.  NBC tenders itself more a comfort to it's lemming followers as it slides down to propaganda dissemination rather than "news", oh so nicely.

As a once almost reverent watcher of NBC news, I've learned to be ashamed of NBC.
I was listening to a news cast from NBC on my loacal channel here in dc.  Your reporter was speaking about Obama's speech in Germany.  She noted he ws giving a speech to much fanfare just as " other US Presidents",  well by golly I didn't know the the election had already been held. Why don't you folks just  report that there is no need fo an election as NBC has already deceided Obama is President.  Where do you get these people that are supposed to be reporters?
After watching the 2 networks covering the Obama trip I have totally been convinced what has been frequenty stated..You're all Democrat liberals..It OK to be a liberal but you all should be on the Obama campaign payroll.. I've not witnessed this bais to this degree in my 73 years.. One of likened Obama to Harry Truman..WOW I knew Harry Truman & Obama could carry his briefcase.. To mention him in the same breath with Truman did not know him.. A man of convictions; courage & toughness..He made decisions for the good of the nation even when they were politically unpopular..I don't expect waffling Obama to take a stand for us..only if it furthers his political position.. Yes we could use a man like Harry T..John McCain has shown us he is such man..He tackled campaign finance reform, immigratation reform to mention just 2.. I have watched the campaign & have not found one thing Obama has done in the
Senate..not one thing..only vote with his liberal friends..on their ideas..not his.. Your campaigning for him will effect your viewer ship..We miss Tim Russet very much... He had a democratic background but he didn't show it.. A great news man.. Obective & fair.. No one of all the reporter I've watched will fill his shoes.. Certainly B Williams
Moderation.... You have to be kidding...
Why doesn't your new broadcast deal in MODERATION
NBC's engenders a comfortable self-limited world here of internally circular "falsified news" by, among other things, spiking stories like Edwards' betrayal of his marriage in favor of pc approved pablum.  NBC's being so clearly in bed with Obama, serving NBC's clear agenda to help Obama at all costs to it's "journalistic" integrity.  NBC tenders itself more a comfort to it's lemming followers as it slides down to propaganda dissemination rather than "news", oh so nicely.

Brian,
I enjoyed your blog about the German countryside. I was born in Germany and lived their for many years and still have family there. When you described the windmills, it was as if I was there.
Now, to the whole Obama thing. I am so upset that a "candidate" for the US presidency would abuse the world as he does. How dare he go and use his status to hopefully gain him some support. The German youth now days is influenced enough by trash. He is feeding them the trash that they love.
When is the US going to wake up and realize that we are in the mess that we are in because of 9-11. We lost lots precious lives, but the terrorists hit us where it hurt the most our pocketbooks. The terrorists succeeded in their mission. I am sick to death of the administration being blamed for the mess we are in. Our economy was fine until that horrible day and it slowly went downhill. I hate to be the bearer of bad news to, but if Al Gore would have been president our economy would still be in bad shape. As far as Iraq, if anyone has ever listened to the oath of any government official, the oath states that " we will defend our country foreign or domestic..." Leave this administration alone. Trust me the next one whoever it may be won't be able to get us out of the mess we are in now either.
NBC's engenders a comfortable self-limited Stepford-Wifien world here of internally circular "safe news" by, among other things, spiking stories like John Edwards' betrayal of his marriage in favor of pc approved "stories".  NBC's clearly in bed with Obama, servicing NBC's clear agenda to help Obama at all costs to "journalistic" integrity.  NBC tenders itself more a comfort to lemming followers as it slides down to a propaganda dissemination role rather than give the public "news"; but done so, oh so nicely.

Once almost a reverent watcher of NBC news, I'm now ashamed of NBC.
Quote: „Why don't you folks just report that there is no need fo an election as NBC has already deceided Obama is President.“  (Robert washington DC)

Yea, why the hesitation? It's your turn! After FOX announced George, you could be a little bit faster this time. And shortly after that, let your colleagues from CNN declare Thanksgiving as the new Inauguration Day. Let's get rid of Bush, a little bit earlier.  -- Why not, you all joked in February this year with „best political team“ on tv / ever / in history / in the galaxy. Maybe, Katie then could pronounce Hillary as vice-president, and the most of the world would be happy -- except Americas republican voters, but haven't they had eight years of a first class cowboy president. In our fast living time, the conservatives will be back to power - next decade. They may could see that as a season brake. And all that would be a perfect example for our modern democracy: not the regime controls the media - the journalists declare the government.

Sorry, but I had to take my humor for a wrote.

Here in Germany we already had someone called „Medien-Kanzler“ (media-chancellor). -- Are really the journalist responsible for that? Or is it just that Barak is able to deal better with them, then old McCain.

Well, that's enough -- want to watch The Daily Show on CNN International (you know, the show with opinions not fully thought through).

Greetings from Germany, Dieter
A quick question..did I pay for the trip that nominee Obama just completed?  If this was paid for by taxpayers monies, I wish to be nominated for something, too.
Chris Matthews--Your slaming the FOX network for their conservative views....THEY admit it.. Why don't you be honest with the public I tell them who you really are;; By the way FOX viewship beat your coverage hands down.. maybe..just maybe the public doesnot like phoney.. your side kick called one of the FOX people TOKYO ROSE...come on..by knocking your competition you damage your own image.. what little good you have left since the death of Tim R.
Keith Oberman is staying in NY during the RNC..He stays away just far enough so he can volley his shots at the nominees..what a pompus diehard liberal with a mike..He gets in every jab he can commenting that McCain is different than Teddy Roosevelt yet the RNC compares the two.. according to him erroneously.. Well Oberman Obama is no Truman.. you are mean spirited & extremely baised.. Why don't you in the media listen to Obama & Biden & back off Gov Palin's family..You people have no shame..Maybe we should do the same to your families as are in the public eye as well.  A Mitchell interviews people starting off with a line that "what qualifies S Palin as VP" like she never was a Governor.. with 80% approval.. Shame on you..  Tom Brokaw & Chuck Todd were the only enlighning part of your coverage... Oberman stay in NY..we don't like your kind in flyover country
Brian --- tell us about the bracelet you wear on your
rt wrist --- how did you come by it??
There is a great and growing unrest with the lack of political unclearity in and for America..... Thanks for your insight..
Do you like to hunt Africa ????
