Have a question?

Posted: Thursday, April 24, 2008 4:50 PM by Sam Singal

By Robert Bazell, NBC News chief science correspondent

Tomorrow I’m going to try something new.  I will be answering questions online about LASIK vision surgery or any other health and science issue I have covered recently, including plastic bottles,  Please send them in and I will answer as many as possible tomorrow from noon to 2pm Eastern.

Meanwhile for people who are interested now in more information about tonight’s story on the complication rate from LASIK, laser vision correction surgery, check out the FDA’s website.

And Matt Kotsovolos, the man we profile who suffered complications with LASIK has started a website to communicate with others who have had difficulties.

Have you heard about adult stem cells present in women's menstrual blood? A company nearby (Cryo-Cell) is touting their new program, C'elle (storing cord blood and menstrual blood for a high fee. Any promise to this story? Why aren't researchers paying women to test this theory across the board?
I have been a diabetic 40 years.Since July 2005 I hear my heartbeat in my right ear. My ear, nose, and throat specialist has no clue, my primary care physician cannot help me. I have spent many sleepless nights-can you help? Thank You, Mark
Is it true that plastic water bottles are for one use only and if refilled the plastic will release chemicals into the water?

I am a long time contact lens wearer with a -750, -800  lens prescription. I just turned 50. I only have mypoia with excellent peripheral vision. I work daily as a computer analyst. considering my age, am I still a candidate for Laser vision correction? and if so, which type should I opt for? Thanks
Is there a medical condition that causes Brian Williams to say ASIER instead of ASIA?  Did I miss the English rule that is obviously taught in the Northeast, "when a word ends in A change it to ER". I was shocked to hear such an obviously educated man say that.  Check last nights tape of the nightly news and you too will hear it.  Diagnosis please!
Dear Brian,
Is it possible we have the housing slump because the builders are not building what the people want?  Most homes are toooo big and are energy wasters and take up way to much in upkeep and land for the "normal" people.  Most of the people with 1 or 2 children don't need a 3000 sq ft. homeor bigger.  The country would be better off with a 2000 sq. ft. home and smaller.  There should be a law that charges a  surtax on homes bigger than 2000 sq. ft. just like a law should be passed for gas guzlers to pay double on auto sales tax.
I have Stigmatisim, is Lasex eye surgery for me????I see three times on top of one another...if i squent I see better.....
Hi Dr. Bazell:

I checked in several times and I guess I miss you today.  I really wanted to know the answer to Shannon's question too.

I guess I missed the live Q & A.  Have a great weekend and hopefully you will post some answers next week.
I had Lasik surgery a little over 3 years ago. My surgeon went through many "worst-case" scenarios. It was entirely my decision to proceed and I am very, very happy!!!!! Yes, I have halos at night (they are much less than they were when I had glasses)! My eyes are a little on the dry side, but they were dry before surgery (they tested to see if my eyes were too dry to heal properly - I produced enough tears to heal the flaps). My vision went from 20/-600 to 20/20!!! It's up to the individual to decide if Lasik is right for him/her. I had a great experience and an exceptionally gifted surgeon. I highly recommend it.
How come nobody has ever commented about Mrs Hillary Clinton LYING.  Even her hubby one of the X-presidents has done the same thing of late and nobody has ever reported anythin about that.  Yet they expect Mr. Obama to answer for his preacher.  If they can hold him responsible for his preachers actions and words then why can't they do the same about the Clinton's.  Fair is fare.  I am appualed by the American population for supporting such a lying bunch, but guess that is accepted in our great nation of today.  Shame, Shame, SHAME! Especially when we teach our children NOT to lie about anything.
The recent topic about microwave sterilization system for plastic baby milk bottles...which may cause chemicals to be released and hence cause brain damage -- I would like to know, what type of brain damage are in question?  Is autism on the list?
Is the Text messaging story and list not yet loaded ?
I can't find it
I saw your story tonight 4/25/2008 on the soldiers visiting the memorial for them.  I just sent an e-mail to my Delta Sky miles, asking if we could donate our sky miles to get the veterens to Washington to see their memorial.  Is it possible to suggest it on air?  What a great way to say "Thank You" to those that served and gave us our freedoms!  Especially for those of us with small budgets but available sky miles.
I always felt lasar surgery was not an option for
me as the thought of it frightens me to death.  Your
program reassured me that I am not "being silly
and alarmist about it" even though I have the best
eye doctor in the country.  I'll stick to contact
lenses, which I love.  Thanks so much for the story.

Sincerely
Phyllis Kunz
What an interesting article and wonderful program .. the Honor Flight for the WWII Memorial.  My father-in-law is 82 years old and I would love for him to have the opportunity to see the Memorial.  Whom should I write or where could I get him on a list to go on the flight?  He wheres his WWII hat everywhere with pride and I know it would thrill him so very much.
To Andrea Mitchell

North Carolina   Obama by 200,000
Indiana         Clinton by 75,000
Oregon           Obama by 50,000
Kentucky         Clinton by 100,000
West Vitginia    Clinton by 100,000
Montana         Tie
South Dakota     Obama by 40,000
Puerto Rico      Clinton by 225,000

Clinton Nets 210,000, making today's 483,000 behind into 273,000.

Add in Michigan and Florida (definitely)and there's the nomination to Clinton

Can you tell me how to contact Honor Flight.  I would love for my Dad, he is 84 and spent the entire war in the Navy, to be able to participate in this program.  He is in California.
I'm just curious to know why NBC has not provided any coverage of the Paul v. Clinton trial in California? I think the voting public has a right to be informed about this case.
If the object of terrorism is economic disaster it has taken only a very few years for terrorists to achieve their objective. Andrea Mitchell, Allen Greenspan, last but not least Brian Williams, could you please give your views on this topic?
Brian:
Where can I find out where to donate to help World War II veterans go to see the memorial in Washington? My brother-in-law served, but he didn't live to see it.
Why haven't more journalists, other than Bill Moyers, tried to bring out the truth- that Reverend Wright was taken out of context and that he was in fact, quoting a white American Ambassador -in the clips showing him ranting about the chickens coming home to roost. It seems as though the media is content with letting people think that he is a radical crazy man.
iam watching the nbc news on sunday and you just talked to howard dean on your show and he is talking about the uniting the party and unite!!! so why in the hell caint the 2 of this country caint   VOTE
man this country pocess is realy going to
                                     SHIT
The dialogue which is being forced on race is, I believe, a necessary one, and can be constructive and helpful.  We must admit that there are at least two narratives in this country:  The Caucasisn, European one, and the African one.  They diverge, but come to the same point.  However, the only people analyzing this on camera are the Europeans, who do not understand the African narrative.  I have a difficult time because of my own background, but I am trying to learn, because I know that viewpoint is different, but not inferior nor wrong.  Instead of treating this dialogue as a bad thing, the commentators should turn this around and look at it as good and positive for this country.  This issue HAS to be talked about and dealt with.  Obama has been brave, both to run, and to talk about the issue.  However, he is not the one driving the race issue and wedge in this campaign.
Do some creative thinking on this issue instead of giving us the same old trite viewpoints handed down from three centuries.
Does anyone think that hopefully there might be a weekend online news cast to go along with the weekly online news cast of NBC Nightly News?
Thank you for your time and keep up the excellant work, your all fantastic!!
Why doesn't anyone bring up the subject of Al Sharpton sticking his nose in everything  and then being proved wrong? Remember  the affair  In 1987, when a 15-year-old black girl named Tawana Brawley accused police of brutality  and he quickly came to her defense and stirred up that community  by supporting her story which was a lie, next he was the first  recognizable black leader (?) to loudly and strongly  point the accusing figure at that Duke University LaCrosse team that was accused of raping a black stripper and now he's stirring up more emotional  horseshit about those three police detectives who were absolved of wrongfully killing that bridegroom. When are you people (the news media) going to cease giving that man a national pulpit  to spew forth unproven and ill founded accusations that turn out to be lies.? And he has never apologized to anyone for stirring up trouble that makes racial tensions worse
I have been in correspondence with this office for over a year now and no resolve. I called there office today and prior to this conversation beginning i clearly stated for quality assurance this call may be monitored or recorded the call was for Intern Mr Steve Hildner well if you listen to the recording i think this is self explanatory .Then he threatened myself with the Capitol Police. Please Help as a disabled Veteran this has gone on long enough. No Resolve
This was sent to nightly news. attachment recording i was threatened by Mr Hildner with the Capitol police
Obama needs to tell us more about his relationship with Ayers. It’s important because voters might well wonder whether that relationship, coupled with Obama’s longtime relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright,  is just the beginning of a pattern, a pattern in which Obama seems quite comfortable with people who really, really, really don’t like the United States of America. Change. If you question him or his values or policies, you’re part of the “divisive, distracting” practices voters associate with Washington. If you become an unquestioning, adoring political groupie, you’re not. Them’s the Obama Rules.
One day after being drubbed by Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania to the tune of 200,000+ votes, Obama’s chief political adviser David Alexrod was on National Public Radio claiming that white working class Democrats barely exist and hardly matter.
Axelrod said, “The white working class has gone to the Republican nominee for many elections, going back even to the Clinton years. This is not new that Democratic candidates don’t rely solely on those votes.”
I saw the item on this Sunday a.m. news re: sending donations to see that WWII veterans get to go see the memorial, but looking on the web can't find an address.  Help
