While somewhat hard to believe, and while tonight's results might be moot in the scope of the fight for the Democratic nomination, the Pennsylvania primary is here.

We had a great hour of coverage on MSNBC at noon -- per usual, Subrata De produced it for me with backup from Megan Marcus -- and we got to work with the very talented team at MSNBC. I'm continually in awe of the volume of coverage they put on the air every day.

We are awaiting the "first wave" exit poll results -- the first indication we will get of any emerging trend. Sometimes they are noteworthy, sometimes they end up being wrong.

Tonight we'll do continuous updates of Nightly News for all time zones, and then we'll drop by and visit the MSNBC studios as part of their coverage. Either way, barring a major defeat for Clinton tonight (it was Tim Russert who said on Nightly News last night: if she loses Pennsylvania, her campaign is "over") it's on to Indiana and North Carolina and beyond. There are 10 contests left.

We'll have it all for you tonight, along with stories featuring some amazing stats: did you know fully 28 percent of all the grain produced in the U.S. this year will go to ethanol production? Did you know the U.S. has fallen to 42nd in the world in terms of life expectancy? Those two stats fall in two separate stories in what we think is a very interesting Tuesday night broadcast. Don't forget UFO's in Arizona! And Florida! It will only have an impact if you're there to watch it! Thanks from all of us.

Good Evening Mr.Williams. Well, I am sure you are very excited for tonight's results to come in from the Pennsylvania Primary. You and Mr.Russert always do an excellent job of covering the primaries and with much enthusiasm. Interesting stats you gave in this posting. There are UFO's in Arizona and Florida? I look forward to the broadcast Mr.Williams. You have a busy evening ahead of you. Keep up the great work! Peace to you and to all!

Lots of Love to Laurel, Jackie and Stephanie!
Be well always!
How many people died today from starvation or food riots because Al Gore & Co. want to "feel" like they're doing something by bastardizing food for bio fuel? We need a running death toll reported everyday.

Bill Clinton also "took credit" (AGAIN) today for the 1.4 million people in Africa who are receiving AIDS medication.  Why are you trying to steal credit from the American taxpayer Bill? Last I heard your little foundation was only reaching like 100,00 people. One of his lying cronies did the same thing on one of the Sunday News shows last week. Oh well they sure are fun to watch.
Hi Brian
Happy Earth Day to all, I did my part to save the planet both at home and in my community today.

I have given up on faith in man or analyst. I put my faith in a Higher Power. I did that with Eli Manning and Danica Patrick and I've done the same with Hillary Clinton.  No disrespect but that's just where my faith is. I know people don't like Hillary for what ever reason but it's her experience and qualifications that stand out. This election is so important and shouldn't be looked at as a popularity contest or who's the Rock Star of the moment.

If any UFO is smart they would by pass earth fast. Not only is the countries messed up but we have even caused Global Warming. There's nothing to learn from earth except how to destroy and create chaos.

Best always to Lisa, Laural and Stephanie
To Matt I am proud of my age but I'll feel like I never stop being 29 years old smile
I enjoy your Nightly News show!!!!
I am most confused as to why Americans are so eager to have a Freshman Senator from Illinois run our country.  I equate that with winning $32 million in the lottery and giving it to an investor fresh out of college to handle.  Not too many people would do that, yet citizens are willing to gamble with the future of our country by voting for someone with virtually no experience.  Barack Obama spent a good deal of his 1st term writing and promoting his book while collecting a salary for the senatorial job he wasn't doing.  I truly think most people are intimidated by Hillary's intelligence (not everyone can graduate 1st in their class).  There are very few skeletons in the Clinton's closet but what do we know about Obama???? Wake up America!!!   Get past the flash, charisma, and racial issues and vote for experience!!!!  Hillary for President!!!
Your graphics for the Soyuz spacecraft reentry were incorrect.  The astronauts return in the bell-shaped capsule which is in the center part of the fully-connected spacecraft.  The forward section and the rear section (with solar panels) are supposed to be jettisoned before reentry.
Loved the interview with the First Lady at their ranch in Texas, especially about their eco-consciencious home. Would they be willing to share more specific information about contruction of the drain system, for example, Mrs. Bush mentioned. I was very impressed and interested in that type of 'going green' here on Earth Day!

Thanks for your fabulous coverage, as always!
Good Evening Mr.Williams, Busy primary election night coverage this evening for you. Mr.Russert certainly knows how to break down what the exit polls are showing on issues of the voters. Three huge issues of the Economy, the War in Iraq and Health Care extremely vital to our nation. We will see later how the votes were cast. The "Against the Grain" segment concerning the food crisis and how the world faces the worst food crisis since World War II was very disturbing. So many factors have contributed as mentioned in the report such as drought, investors, and policy. Growing corn for ethanol in fuel instead of food may or may not be a good idea. Both are important for people, but too much being used for one use and not the other can have terrible consequences. And of course, with the price of oil being so high it makes food prices soar. I hope things change for the better and hopefully soon. On another note the four red lights over Phoenix, Arizona and St.Augustine, Florida were strange to see. And for thirteen minutes even. It is weird that air traffic and the Air Force couldn't explain the red lights. I suppose we had a close encounter and didn't know it. Finally, I enjoyed Ann Curry's interview with First Lady Laura Bush. Their ranch in Crawford looks very spacious and nice besides being eco-friendly. The grounds were lovely too and will make a nice backdrop to Jenna's wedding on May 10th. The President and First Lady are really doing their part at the ranch to "Go Green" and save energy. Nice piece Ann! Good to see you on Nightly and Today! Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Williams. See you later on this evening for Pennsylvania Primary returns. Peace to you and to all!

Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie and Stephanie!
Be well ladies!
What about the 12+ YEARS OF POLITICAL CAPITAL INVESTMENT the Clintons have invested in PA and elsewhere?  If this was factored in, Barack Obama has UNDERSPENT Hillary Clinton by several fold.  Think about it . . .
Brian good news that I know you and your staff would never brag about because your to professional.  I can say it because I'm just a viewer of NBC. I know you would never toot your own horn but I can.

“NBC beat ABC by over 600,000 viewers last week — an unusually wide margin for the dueling rights.

Congratulations to all at NBC you are truly the only Fair/Balanced News Media.  I'm just glad others have noticed it too.  Now keep up the good work and others will follow too.

Mr. Williams,

Thanks for the heads up about your noon eastern time coverage on msnbc for today. I love primary nights because its like NBC's red carpet, where all the big guns of the political team come out to share their thoughts and insight into what we might expect for this long night. I must say though, I am equally anticipating another, more time consuming event this week, the NFL Draft. I think Chuck Todd has become my favorite political commentator other than yourself. I really like the numbers he brings in and the breakdowns he does of counties and delegates. He's the true NBC "Numbers Man". I also gladly acknowledge the people who help him do the research for that. The NBC big board makes it so easy to understand how things are going, including Nora O Donnell's breakdown of the polling info, and when she takes over for Chris and Keith when they go home (I assume) for the night. I'm still waiting to see Mr. Brokaw tonight, I hope he will be on tonight. You gotta love Chris Matthews' obscure(at least to me) references. I know I have left  out some of the others the political team, but I can safely say I enjoy seeing everyone for tonights coverage. I think the most humorous part of the night is when Mr. Buchanan and whoever else on the panel have a disagreement of sorts. Look forward to the broadcast tonight as always.

P.S. I think it's unfortunate that the majority of times we have a rough estimate of what percentages each candidate will bring in, but I guess thats the price we pay for good journalism/reporting.
so, let me understand this... this is earth day and you decide to profile the house of the president who has refused to acknowledge global warminng.   whose vp is on record as saying that conservation by individuals is a virtue not a policy.

the world is starving, the earth is in tatters, in the economy is a shambles and you are spending your valuable time on the bush ranch?  geez

seriously, we have hung in there with you as your program has become increasingly trivial and disconnected with real news but tonight's show has pushed up over the edge.

perhaps you should simply run the show on E!?
I got to see the First Family on the Today Show, and thought all the ladies did a fabulous job.  I had forgotten how much Jenna looks and sounds like her mother!  I'll be interested to get my hands on their new book to read to my nieces, who don't need to be encouraged to read right now.  Granted they are still the "pictures" type of readers, being 12 months and younger, but I still am thrilled to see such interest in all three of them so early in life.  Congrats to Jenna on her upcoming wedding!

Gracious, Brian - you have offered the best piece of news I've heard in weeks: only 10 states left with primaries?  Oh it can't be true - we are almost over this roller coaster ride?  On a related subject: how much money would we have to pay Mr. Clinton to stop talking?  He's been doing a wonderful job chomping on both his feet in this campaign.  I must be suffering from short term memory loss: was he really this mouthy and off-script in his runs for president?

I noted that one of the areas marked with "stagnant" life expectancy was in Maine.  It is worth noting that the area highlighted is covering at least all of Washington County, which borders Canada.  It is Maine's poorest county, and has the most depressed economy in the state.  It is also home to at least one Indian reservation, and if I am not mistaken, the Native Americans in Maine have a much less higher life expectancy than the rest of the state.  Washington County is also extremely rural.  I would guess that these factors contribute to its decline in overall health and life expectancy.  When you are forced to live on $700 or less a month (as reported in a recent local news story) how can they be expected to afford proper food and healthcare?  I would be interested to know how other areas who were highlighted fare in its overall demographic.

What could be in the sky?  Drug runners using military equipment?  More celestial sightings?  Oh the plot thickens.  Sounds like the beginnings of a novel!

I just realized I watched a broadcast that didn't seem to have anything mentioned on Iraq.  Is that true?  I did get distracted with the cats taking over my spot on the bed while I was watching.  If this is true, is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Once again, Brian, kudos to the NBC and MSNBC teams for the top notch political coverage.  I learned long ago that there was no other standard barer for coverage, and it continues to stay current and fresh.

Good mid week to Lisa, Laurel, Jackie, and Anna!  It was 76 degrees outside my windows today.  Oh it feels soooooooooooooo good!
This is being posted after the race has been declared by all networks....

and so we slog on!
I saw your broadcast today and enjoyed it.  All the best with future broadcasts.  Let me finish by making added observations about the FLDS.  I made a posting not long ago as a former foster child and Mormon apostate on the FLDS and forgot to say something. The FLDS removed their kids from the public school system to avoid having evolution and secular values taught to them and started homeschooling them. That means that many FLDS kids have never been in a public school and those that have are adamantly opposed to it, they being fundamentalists after all. Now, how do you suppose those kids are going to react to living with an infidel foster home and going to a degenerate secular public school as they see it? Obviously, they''re going to runaway back to the YFZ Ranch with their parents possibly taking them out of the state to other compounds across the US and in Canada. The FLDS do have known compounds in Florida, South Dakota, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona after all. I suspect the possibility of an as yet unidentified compound in Nevada or some type of arrangement with the Indians there that the FLDS in Utah trade with and have other dealings with which, may help to explain why Jeffs was caught in Nevada that supposedly doesn''t have an FLDS compound. The "earlier plans to ask Mormon officials to monitor FLDS prayers inside the coliseum" would offend the FLDS and could add to reprogramming accusations that''re sure to rise. It''s good to see that the Mormons are speaking out against that request.  Again, all the best with future broadcasts, Mr. Williams.

I thought the line about the US has fallen to 42nd in the world in life expectancy to be very disappointing!  I would've expected better of us, who do we lag behind?  Do tell...  I also loved the piece on Jenna Bush and their wedding plans at the Western White House, I was very impressed with the first lady's knowldge of green energy products and the way they collect the rainwater to reuse on the land.  it's one of those things that I want to do too, but just haven't found the time and gotten around to it.  Thanks for some great stories!
I think you should have clearly pointed out that the data analyzed for the US life expectancy study only went to 1999.  There is no information in the study that can be definitely presented with respect to the average life expectancy today.  It could have continued its slight downward trend for some demographic groups or increased; we just do not know.  In the interest of objectivity - you should have clearly pointed out what years were analyzed to arrive at the presented conclusion.  The impression that viewers were left with is that the information was current with respect to today's average life expectancy in the US and reflective of conditions in the country today versus those from the study data subset from 1983-1999.
I don't know what any of the candidates think about some very important issues, such as what are they going to do to make medicare solvent & in light of world hunger, what are they going to do about ethanol subsidies.  Too much media time is devoted to "gotcha" journalism.  Please use some of the time you spend analyzing polls to asking candidates what they are going to do about some of these things.  The stakes are too high for the public not to be fully informed.  You could begin a series of nightly 5 min. interviews with each of the candidates on under-covered issues.  It would be a great public service.
Dear Mr. Williams,
I am shocked to learn that even with all the resources that are available to us, life expectancy is on the decline.  Although, I am not surprised with the reasons that are making this happen.

I was also very intrigued with the reports of red lights in AZ and FL.  I would love to learn more if more information becomes available on this.
This is not necessarily a comment on this piece, but on the fact that I think we had one of the most important speeches by Obama tonight that  could have been and will be and should be discussed by everyone from this point on.  I will not go into detail but for the first time he is no longer willing to sacrifice his greater message on his current opponent but is going full force against the Republicans in the next campaign.  The train has left the station and all journalists need to catch up.  Spend twenty minutes and listen to his incredible speech carefully.

Great coverage last night, the sneeze on msnbc made me laugh. When they had you 4 with a "split screen" it made me think of the brady bunch. :)

Also, the way you present the info with Norah O'donald Chuck Todd, last night, and Ann on TODAY, it is very sleek looking.

I do have to say, however I am very dissapointed in this edition of green week, it seems there is far less green programing this time around.

In closing, great coverage on Decision 2008!! (side note; i like how now on the site, the video doesn't start when the page comes up...great job!!)

Mike,

Jackie, I agree with you about the news ratings.  I was reading an article - was it in TV Guide? - about how CBS is bewildered about why its ratings are sagging even with Katie at the helm.  I love Katie too - I tried to watch her - but there's just something about the current style at CBC; I'm seeing it even in the local affiliate, whose local news I've grown up watching. I officially made the swap to NBC national news about 2 years ago.  My litmus test has been this:  several NBC reporters left CBS to take their current jobs.  That in itself tells me all I need to know.

Bottom line: kudos to NBC!  Just keep going in the right direction!
I was watching Obama's speech last night in Indiana and noticed something odd. The 3 young men that were standing behind him were all wearing clearly Abercrombie and Fitch T-Shirts. All 3 were different but branded in a very obvious way. Do you think this was a marketing campaign or just a coincidence?
I don't support Obama or Clinton, but I find it interesting as to all this "pressure" they are putting on Clinton to end her campaign. Correct me if I'm wrong, but after her win last night she's only trailing by around 500,000 votes in the popular vote. (Not counting Florida or Michigan). That's something around 1.5% of all votes cast in almost 40 states! It's not like this man is running away with it. If last night showed us anything, it's that Obama will have trouble winning the electoral college. Sorry democrats, every vote counts the same in November. Those Philadelphia votes won't mean nearly as much in the fall.

On that note. Can we all agree that both parties need to change the way their primaries work? Why utilize one system in the primaries and a completely different on in the fall. It makes no sense.
all i know is this is great fun and should easily tide me over 'till football season ;-)

Lucky liberal voters at least have McCain to fall back on.  Wonder what it's like to have 3 Candidates from which to choose....
The report on the Bush ranch was cringe-worthy. I'll bet they don't live there one year after he leaves office.  And Barbara and Jenna Bush --  most unimpressive First Children ever !!!
Mr. Williams,

I have been covering the Democratic Race for some time now.  I have to tell you that I am a woman, single parent, and a professional.  I am very upset how Senator Clinton portrays herself as being the best Democratic Candidate for the Presidential Race.

Senator Clinton is quick to pass judgement on Senator Obama, for the people he knows and she can sling some "trash" at him.  I am very disappointed at the way she lashes out at him for being associated with his Pastor.  Excuse me, but how many of us can say we attend church, but be actually totally believe in everything our Pastor/Priest says and believes in.  I am sorry but I am a born and raised Catholic, but I do not agree with every single word the Catholic Church believes in.  Does that make me a bad person, no that make me a human.

If she could lash out at Senator Obama, because he lives near someone, and talks to someone, that is not the "best of company" that he is not waht America wants because it is not appropriate, when did she become my voice and my belief.

If I remember right, President Bill Clinton associated with people who smoked Marijuana, oh and yeah right he didn't "inhale", yeah right and I was born yesterday, and she associated with the Drug Companies that gave her kickbacks for the fall of her Health Care Initiative, I don;t see her rationale for slamming Senator Obama.  Hasn't she ever heard, "People in Glass Houses, Shouldn't cast stones."

She needs to clean her closets out before she tries to air others laundry.

As for her supposed experience with international affairs, hey Senator, I am a female veteran, and would I trust you during war time, not no, but hell no.  I am sorry but your are a woamn, and I have seen how you react to questions during a debate, or when you "mistated" you experiences, I would not trust you to represent me as a President in the white house.  And the gall of you, no I mean President Bill, saying that Sentator Obama is using the race card, no I think and I have seen you and President Clinton using the reverse "Race Card".

My vote, as well as my interacial daughters are for Senator Obama all the way, because be has experienced life as we have known it yesterday and today.

And by the way, didn't you all see he is not only an African American, but his mother was a White woman, single mother at that.

Thank you for listening

There seems to be a faction with the motto:
           Hillary, anybody but!

Also, a faction that believes:
           Obama, no matter what!

Together they have propelled a man that is less well known, has much less executive experience, is not as good an orator, has less quality in his judgements, and is not held in nearly as high esteem, and is not as black, as Oprah!

We have this exciting nomination-election thanks to the DNP under estimating just how unhappy many voters are with politicans & the way they have contrived to controll our government.  Also, Howard Dean is once again way over his head in the political arena.

WHY IS THERE A NOMINATION-ELECTION ANYWAY?

Those organized as a political club, or party, should have their convention, to hammer out issues, to accept a platform, & then choose a candidate that best matches the parties beliefs & then hold the general election in Nov. with the States selecting electors to send to the electorial college when & how each State determines is in the best interest of that State.

Why is there such a waste of resources on a political parties national nomination-election, & then the national parties kick sand in the faces of Mich. & Fla.

STATES' RIGHTS ABOVE CLUBS, PARTIES, & OTHER ORGANIZATIONS!

Respectfully,
Billy Bob, Florida
