What's that? You don't know Stefanie Gordon? Hoboken's own Stefanie Gordon? She played a great role in cellphone video history today while flying from New York to Palm Beach. The captain came on the PA and gave one of those "those of you on the right side of the aircraft..." announcements. Those announcements are usually about a "beautiful view of the City of Baltimore," but not this time. This time, it was about the space shuttle piercing through the cloud deck on its way to space. There's video and stills, but we have Stefanie to thank. She woke up and started shooting the towering vapor trail, as cool as any sight imaginable from a seat in a plane. While she's using her new-found fame to score a job--kudos from here on earth for a job well done. Stefanie: Where you gonna be for re-entry?
We hope you can join us tonight.

Stefanie Gordon

Good Evening Mr.Williams, Another fine broadcast this evening! Great pictures taken by Stefanie Gordon of the Space Shuttle Endeavour! The pictures she took from her cellphone of the vapor trial are amazing! And from the window of a plane. Great job!
Now on to the broadcast. First of all the report by Anne Thompson from Melville, LA about the massive flooding caused by the Mississippi River. It is heartbreaking to know that some cities are being sacrificed to save other cities from being flooded. Heartwrenching to see families having to leave their homes not knowing the future and having really no place to go. Holding on to faith with everything they own in their homes.
The report by Mr.Truong from Vicksburg showed how home after home has been submerged by the flood waters after thousands have been evacuated from the area. It is a heartbreaking disaster. One hopes the levees will keep some water away, but it is truly uncertain. Terribly tense few days for all the residents of the area. Ones thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in the flood zone.
The report by Mr.Costello about the final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour showed an amazing launch and with Captain Mark Kelly onboard it is most special since he is the husband of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. It is wonderful she was able to attend the launch and has made remarkable progress since being shot so severely on the head. She has true dedication and triumph of spirit! One wishes Captain Mark Kelly and crew of the Endeavour a safe and successful mission and a safe flight home. And ones thoughts and prayers go out to Cong. Gabrielle Giffords on her continued progress.
Wonderful for the students of Booker T.Washington High School to have President Obama come snd give the commencement address at the graduation. The school and the students have made incredible progress with much hard work and dedication. One wishes the best for all the students.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Williams. Peace to You and to All!
Be Well Everyone!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Actually, yes, I do know Stefanie - went to college with her, she's good friends with my wife. I tried to watch the shuttle take off today but a huge low-altitude rain cloud hung right over the school I teach at, and I mentioned to someone that I hoped someone would get a picture from a plane like the one from another recent shuttle launch...just never knew it'd be someone I actually know! Thanks Stef!
Hi MATT!!!! Thanks for comment big hugs to you and Erin!
Awesome photo of the shuttle literally punching through the cloud deck. Nice work Stefanie
Thank you!
This weekend's Nightly News really bothered me because...oh wait a second. My bad. There was no Nightly News this weekend. Not on Saturday, not on Sunday. Because obviously, NBC believed that Golf was more important (meaning, of course, more profitable) than news. And here's the kicker: On Monday's Nightly News, Brian Williams and his producers thought it would be a good idea to spend two-and-a-half minutes on a story about how the high pollen count is causing bad allergies this season (featuring a doctor who seemed to be doing his best Gilbert Gottfried impression). That's great. Nightly News hasn't been on for three days--they have 72 hours of news to catch up on--and they're wasting time talking about pollen. What a dedicated news organization.
And surprise, surprise--Monday's Nightly News featured yet another story about Donald Trump. With the season finale of "Celebrity Apprentice" set to air this Sunday, that's obviously not a coincidence. Nightly News is the marketing arm for NBC Universal's entertainment and sports divisions. It's clear that Brian and his producers spent many hours in the Nightly News Situation Room (located deep in the bowels of 30 Rock) working closely with Trump's people figuring out exactly how Nightly News can best promote "Celebrity Apprentice" this week.
And then there was the story about the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour. This story deserved about twenty seconds of air time, but it was padded out to three minutes so that Brian and Tom Costello could continue to exploit Gabby Giffords. Hasn't this poor woman been through enough? Can't Brian and his staff just leave her alone already? Sadly, no. I'm sure that the Nightly News producers are already hard at work figuring out how to tap into the Memorial Hermann laser camera feed so they can broadcast live pirate video of her upcoming skull reattachment surgery. Brought to you by Tums.
Yeah, NBC mucked up with Golf this weekend instead of Nightly News with Lester Holt. Phyllis Kunz
How did Japan and the crippled reactor story fall so far out of the news ? Did the story meltdown along with the reactors ?
Thank You Brian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great picture. Now you can go by the name Flash Gordon or something like that.
This photo of "Endeavor" breaking through the clouds is fantastic, and in no way could have been planned by anyone on earth...what a "photo op"...good job, Stephanie, you've captured your own little piece of history!
I'm so sorry, Stefanie, that I mis-spelled your name when it was right in front of me...I'm usually more careful, and catch myself in the proofreading if not before...my apologies to you.
Thank you for correcting the spelling. My flight was just at the right place at the right time, and so was I.
