Good day. A quick note about tonight's broadcast. We'll have a report from the World Trade Center site here in New York where demonstrators on both sides of the Islamic Center controversy met today.
The end of U.S. combat operation has not meant an end to American casualties there as we painfully learned today. With more U.S. combat deaths reported in Afghanistan as well, NBC's Tom Aspell reports on the delicate and critical turning point the U.S. is navigating on both war fronts.
I'm also looking forward to sharing with you some of my interview with 3 American combat veterans from 3 different wars who lost their legs to battle. They have pulled off a pretty remarkable feat atop Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro that sends a strong message to the rest of us about courage and determination.
I hope you'll join me for the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News.

Lester, I have zero tolerance for those who will not budge from building a Mosque two blocks away
from ground zero after the update on your broadcast. I saw David Gregory's interview with
Mitch McConnell and his comments were a cop-out as far as I am concerned. Brian's segment
on Katrina was moving. This week will be great for my husband and me as it will be his
last week for treatment. I hope you and Brian have a great week too. Phyllis
I was against the Mosque until this weekend. After watching all the Sunday news shows and being called so many names by the Judas Goat Manhattanistani media I've learned that I should just ignore the name of the Mosque, the location they insist on building it and the date they want to dedicate it. When you have people who are only trusted by 24% of the American people telling you how to think you MUST get in line. /sarc never off
Good Evening Mr.Holt, Another fine broadcast this Sunday evening.
First of all the report by Mr.Aspell from Kabul and the continuing battle in Iraq and Afghanistan. So very tragic to learn of a US Soldier killed in Iraq since the US Combat Troops just withdrew this last week. The 50,000 US Troops remaining are to be non.combat troops and it is sad to have one soldier already lost. The War in Afghanistan told of Six US Soldiers killed in Southern Afghanistan which is awful and ones thoughts and prayers go out to all the military families. Hearing from General Petraeus about the tripling of US Troops by the end of September along with more resources and equipment one hopes progress will be made. Time will tell.
The crisis in Pakistan seems to be getting worse with the massive floods covering 20% of the country. With the large amount of aid pledged in aid one hopes the waters will recede and the people will get the help they need.
On another note the report by Mr.Cowan about the egg recall is alarming news since so many eggs have been recalled. With 22 States affected by the recall one must be extremely cautious and really make sure one cooks the eggs thoroughly. Hopefully, the cause of the salmonella outbreak will be found.
The piece about the three war veterans who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro was very inspirational. The three War Veterans of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan who had lost limbs really overcame the odds to make it to the top of the mountain. Truly Inspirational!
Watching Mr.Williams on Dateline reflecting on his experiences reporting from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and the first five days. Heartbreaking and emotional.
Thank You for the broadcast Mr.Holt. Peace to You and to All!
Lots of Love to Laurel,Jackie,Stephanie,Claudia,Celine,Anna,Lori,Cary and Matt!
Be Well Always!
Stay Extra,Extra Safe and Well Richard!
Take Extra Good Care Richard and Crew!

Lester: I saw the segment about the vets who climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. Wow, what a feat! Most of us with our own legs, would never make it to the top of that peak. The bravery they displayed in three different wars continues in this adventure!
The 50.000 troops that will be left behind in Iraq will be training the locals with more combat training;however they will still remain in harms way. The war isn't over, and won't be until these remnant troops return home. Remember, If the situation in Iraq deteriortates again, we'll be right back there!
Lester,
My husband's cousin, the architect and friend of Inman Kahn of Pakistan, came by for dinner and the
subject of the Mosque came up and he said it would be a mistake not to build the Mosque and he
felt strongly about it. I feel as strongly the other way, and we did not sway each other, but an
interesting conversation. Have a nice evening, Lester.
Phyllis
Lester, you did a story about owls recently which was interesting. Anyway at Barnes & Noble yesterday I
picked up Elle and a purple writing notebook with owls on it, and it's a hoot. Phyllis
